1 Eines Tages sagte Jonatan, der Sohn Sauls, zu seinem Waffenträger: Komm, wir wollen zu dem Posten der Philister hinübergehen, der da drüben steht. Seinem Vater sagte er aber nichts davon.	1 Now it came to pass one day that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man that bore his armour: Come, and let us go over to the garrison of the Philistines, which is on the other side of yonder place. But he told not this to his father.
2 Saul saß an der Flurgrenze von Gibea unter dem Granatapfelbaum, der bei Migron steht. Das Volk, das er bei sich hatte, zählte etwa sechshundert Mann.	2 And Saul abode in the uttermost part of Gabaa under the pomegranate tree, which was in Magron: and the people with him were about six hundred men.
3 Damals trug Ahija, der Sohn Ahitubs, des Bruder Ikabods, des Sohnes des Pinhas, des Sohnes Elis, des Priesters des Herrn in Schilo, das Efod. Auch das Volk wusste nicht, dass Jonatan weggegangen war.	3 And Achias the son of Achitob brother to Ichabod the son of Phinees, the son of Heli the priest of the Lord in Silo, wore the ephod. And the people knew not whither Jonathan was gone.
4 An den Übergängen, wo Jonatan zu dem Posten der Philister hinüberzukommen versuchte, war hüben und drüben eine Felszacke; die eine nannte man Bozez, die andere Senne.	4 Now there were between the ascents, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the garrison of the Philistines, rocks standing up on both sides, and steep cliffs like teeth on the one side, and on the other, the name of the one was Boses, and the name of the other was Sene:
5 Die eine Felszacke erhebt sich wie eine Säule auf der Nordseite, gegenüber von Michmas, die andere auf der Südseite, gegenüber von Geba.	5 One rock stood out towards the north over against Machmas, and the other to the south over against Gabaa.
6 Jonatan sagte also zu seinem Waffenträger: Komm, wir wollen hinübergehen zu dem Posten dieser Unbeschnittenen. Vielleicht wird der Herr für uns handeln; für den Herrn ist es ja keine Schwierigkeit zu helfen, sei es durch viele oder durch wenige.	6 And Jonathan said to the young man that bore his armour: Come, let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised, it may be the Lord will do for us, because it is easy for the Lord to save either by many, or by few.
7 Sein Waffenträger erwiderte ihm: Tu nur, was du im Sinn hast. Geh, ich bin mit dabei; ganz wie du willst.	7 And his armourbearer said to him: Do all that pleaseth thy mind: go whither thou wilt, and I will be with thee wheresoever thou hast a mind.
8 Jonatan sagte: Hör zu! Wir wollen zu den Männern hinübergehen und uns ihnen offen zeigen.	8 And Jonathan said: Behold we will go over to these men. And when we shall be seen by them,
9 Und wenn sie dann zu uns sagen: Bleibt stehen, bis wir zu euch kommen!, dann bleiben wir stehen, wo wir sind, und gehen nicht zu ihnen hinauf.	9 If they shall speak thus to us: Stay till we come to you: let us stand still in our place, and not go up to them.
10 Wenn sie aber sagen: Kommt zu uns herauf!, dann wollen wir zu ihnen hinaufsteigen; denn der Herr hat sie in unsere Hand gegeben. Das soll für uns das Zeichen sein.	10 But if they shall say: Come up to us: let us go up, because the Lord hath delivered them into our hands, this shall be a sign unto us.
11 Die beiden zeigten sich also dem Posten der Philister. Die Philister sagten: Seht nur, die Hebräer sind aus ihren Löchern hervorgekommen, in denen sie sich versteckt hatten.	11 So both of them discovered themselves to the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said: Behold the Hebrews come forth out of the holes wherein they were hid.
12 Die Wachtposten riefen zu Jonatan und seinem Waffenträger hinüber und sagten: Kommt nur herauf zu uns, wir werden euch etwas erzählen. Da sagte Jonatan zu seinem Waffenträger: Geh hinter mir hinauf; denn der Herr hat sie in die Gewalt Israels gegeben.	12 And the men of the garrison spoke to Jonathan, and to his armourbearer, and said: Come up to us, and we will shew you a thing. And Jonathan said to his armourbearer: Let us go up, follow me: for the Lord hath delivered them into the hands of I srael.
13 Jonatan kletterte auf Händen und Füßen hinauf und sein Waffenträger folgte ihm. Da ergriffen sie vor Jonatan die Flucht, aber sein Waffenträger, der hinter ihm war, tötete sie.	13 And Jonathan went up creeping on his hands and feet, and his armourbearer after him. And some fell before Jonathan, others his armourbearer slew as he followed him.
14 Das war der erste Schlag, den Jonatan und sein Waffenträger führten. Sie erschlugen etwa zwanzig Mann, auf einer Fläche, die ungefähr einen halben Morgen groß war.	14 And the first slaughter which Jonathan and his armourbearer made, was of about twenty men, within half an acre of land, which a yoke of oxen is wont to plough in a day.
15 Großer Schrecken entstand im Lager (der Philister) und auf dem Feld und im ganzen Volk; auch der Vorposten und die plündernden Abteilungen erschraken. Dazu bebte die Erde und es entstand ein Gottesschrecken.	15 And there was a miracle in the camp, through the fields: yea and all the people of their garrison, who had gone out to plunder, were amazed, and the earth trembled: and it happened as a miracle from God.
16 Die Späher Sauls in Gibea-Benjamin sahen ein Getümmel, das wogte und hin und her lief.	16 And the watchmen of Saul, who were in Gabaa of Benjamin looked, and behold a multitude overthrown, and fleeing this way and that.
17 Da sagte Saul zu den Leuten, die bei ihm waren: Prüft einmal und seht nach, wer von unseren Leuten weggegangen ist. Sie sahen nach, und tatsächlich fehlten Jonatan und sein Waffenträger.	17 And Saul said to the people that were with him: Look, and see who is gone from us. And when they had sought, it was found that Jonathan and his armourbearer were not there.
18 Saul sagte zu Ahija: Bring die Lade Gottes her! Denn die Lade war an jenem Tag bei den Israeliten (im Lager).	18 And Saul said to Achias: Bring the ark of the Lord. (For the ark of God was there that day with the children of Israel.)
19 Während Saul mit dem Priester redete, wurde das Getümmel im Lager der Philister immer größer. Da sagte Saul zu dem Priester: Halt ein!	19 And while Saul spoke to the priest, there arose a great uproar in the camp of the Philistines: and it increased by degrees, and was heard more clearly. And Saul said to the priest: Draw in thy hand.
20 Saul aber und alle Leute, die bei ihm waren, zogen gemeinsam in den Kampf. Da sahen sie, dass (im Lager der Philister) jeder sein Schwert gegen den anderen gerichtet hatte und dass ein ganz gewaltiges Getümmel entstanden war.	20 Then Saul and all the people that were with him, shouted together, and they came to the place of the fight: and behold every man's sword was turned upon his neighbour, and there was a very great slaughter.
21 Auch die Hebräer, die bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt aufseiten der Philister gestanden und mit ihnen in den Krieg gezogen waren, wandten sich nun (von ihnen) ab, um aufseiten Israels zu sein, das zu Saul und Jonatan hielt.	21 Moreover the Hebrews that had been with the Philistines yesterday and the day before, and went up with them into the camp, returned to be with the Israelites, who were with Saul and Jonathan.
22 Als die Israeliten, die sich im Gebirge Efraim versteckt hatten, hörten, dass die Philister auf der Flucht waren, setzten auch sie ihnen im Kampf nach	22 And all the Israelites that had hid themselves in mount Ephraim, hearing that the Philistines fled, joined themselves with their countrymen in the fight. And there were with Saul about ten thousand men.
23 und der Kampf dehnte sich bis Bet-Awen aus. So rettete der Herr an jenem Tag Israel.	23 And the Lord saved Israel that day. And the fight went on as far as Bethaven.
24 Die Israeliten aber waren an jenem Tag in Bedrängnis geraten. Darum stellte Saul das Volk unter einen Fluch und sagte: Verflucht sei jeder, der vor dem Abend etwas isst, bevor ich mich an meinen Feinden gerächt habe. Das Volk nahm also bis zum Abend keine Nahrung zu sich.	24 And the men of Israel were joined together that day; and Saul adjured the people, saying: Cursed be the man that shall eat food till evening, till I be revenged of my enemies. So none of the people tasted any food:
25 Nun gab es in jener ganzen Gegend viele Bienennester, sodass Honig auf freiem Feld zu finden war.	25 And all the common people came into a forest, in which there was honey upon the ground.
26 Als das Volk zu den Waben kam und sah, dass Honig aus ihnen herausfloss, streckte niemand seine Hand aus, um etwas davon zu nehmen. Denn das Volk fürchtete den Schwur (Sauls).	26 And when the people came into the forest, behold the honey dropped, but no man put his hand to his mouth. For the people feared the oath.
27 Jonatan aber hatte nicht gehört, wie sein Vater das Volk beschwor. Er tauchte den Stock, den er in der Hand hielt, mit der Spitze in eine Honigwabe und führte den Honig mit der Hand zum Mund. Da leuchteten seine Augen wieder.	27 But Jonathan had not heard when his father adjured the people: and he put forth the end of the rod, which he had in his hand, and dipt it in a honeycomb: and he carried his hand to his mouth, and his eyes were enlightened.
28 Einer aus dem Volk aber sagte: Dein Vater hat das Volk mit einem Eid beschworen und gesagt: Verflucht sei jeder, der heute etwas isst. Das Volk war aber erschöpft.	28 And one of the people answering, said: Thy father hath bound the people with an oath, saying: Cursed be the man that shall eat any food this day. (And the people were faint.)
29 Jonatan erwiderte: Mein Vater stürzt das Land ins Unglück. Seht nur, meine Augen leuchten, weil ich ein bisschen von diesem Honig gegessen habe.	29 And Jonathan said: My father hath troubled the land: you have seen yourselves that my eyes are enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey:
30 Ja, hätte das Volk heute von der Beute, die es gemacht hat, ordentlich gegessen! Dann wäre die Niederlage der Philister noch größer geworden.	30 How much more if the people had eaten of the prey of their enemies, which they found? had there not been made a greater slaughter among the Philistines?
31 Die Israeliten schlugen an diesem Tag die Philister (im ganzen Gebiet) zwischen Michmas und Ajalon, das Volk aber war sehr erschöpft.	31 So they smote that day the Philistines from Machmas to Ailon. And the people were wearied exceedingly.
32 Deshalb stürzte sich das Volk auf die Beute, nahm Schafe, Rinder und Kälber, schlachtete sie, sodass das Blut einfach auf die Erde floss. Und das Volk aß (das Fleisch) samt dem Blut.	32 And falling upon the spoils, they took sheep, and oxen, and calves, and slew them on the ground: and the people ate them with the blood.
33 Da meldete man Saul: Sieh nur, das Volk versündigt sich gegen den Herrn, es isst (das Fleisch) samt dem Blut. Er sagte: Ihr habt ein Unrecht begangen. Wälzt sofort einen großen Stein her!	33 And they told Saul that the people had sinned against the Lord, eating with the blood. And he said: You have transgressed: roll here to me now a great stone.
34 Und er befahl: Geht unter die Leute und sagt ihnen: Jeder soll sein Rind und sein Lamm zu mir bringen und es hier schlachten und essen. Versündigt euch nicht gegen den Herrn, indem ihr es samt dem Blut esst. Da brachten die Leute noch in der Nacht alles, was sie in der Hand hatten, herbei und schlachteten es dort.	34 And Saul said: Disperse yourselves among the people, and tell them to bring me every man his ox and his ram, and slay them upon this stone, and eat, and you shall not sin against the Lord in eating with the blood. So all the people brought every man his ox with him till the night: and slew them there.
35 Und Saul erbaute dem Herrn einen Altar. Es war der erste Altar, den er dem Herrn erbaute.	35 And Saul built an altar to the Lord and he then first began to build an altar to the Lord.
36 Saul sagte: Wir wollen in der Nacht hinter den Philistern herziehen und unter ihnen plündern, bis der Tag anbricht. Keinen von ihnen wollen wir übrig lassen. Die Leute antworteten: Tu nur, was du für richtig hältst. Der Priester aber sagte: Wir wollen (erst) hier vor Gott hintreten.	36 And Saul said: Let us fall upon the Philistines by night, and destroy them till the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them. And the people said: Do all that seemeth good in thy eyes. And the priest said: Let us draw near hither unto God.
37 Saul fragte also Gott: Soll ich hinter den Philistern herziehen? Wirst du sie in die Gewalt Israels geben? Gott aber gab an jenem Tag keine Antwort.	37 And Saul consulted the Lord: Shall I pursue after the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into the hands of Israel? And he answered him not that day.
38 Darauf sagte Saul: Alle Anführer des Volkes, kommt her und forscht nach, wodurch diese Sünde heute zustande gekommen ist.	38 And Saul said: Bring hither all the corners of the people: and know, and see by whom this sin hath happened to day.
39 So wahr der Herr, der Retter Israels, lebt: Selbst wenn es sich um meinen Sohn Jonatan handeln würde - er muss sterben. Doch niemand aus dem Volk antwortete.	39 As the Lord liveth who is the saviour of Israel, if it was done by Jonathan my son, he shall surely die. In this none of the people gainsaid him.
40 Saul aber sagte zu allen Israeliten: Ihr sollt auf der einen Seite stehen, ich und mein Sohn Jonatan wollen auf der anderen Seite stehen. Das Volk antwortete Saul: Tu, was du für richtig hältst.	40 And he said to all Israel: Be you on one side, and I with Jonathan my son will be on the other side. And the people answered Saul: Do what seemeth good in thy eyes.
41 Darauf sagte Saul zum Herrn: Gott Israels, gib uns volle Klarheit! Da fiel das Los auf Jonatan und Saul, das Volk aber ging frei aus.	41 And Saul said to the Lord: O Lord God of Israel, give a sign, by which we may know, what the meaning is, that thou answerest not thy servant to day. If this iniquity be in me, or in my son Jonathan, give a proof: or if this iniquity be in thy people, give holiness. And Jonathan and Saul were taken, and the people escaped.
42 Saul sagte: Werft nun das Los zwischen mir und meinem Sohn Jonatan! Das Los fiel auf Jonatan.	42 And Saul said: Cast lots between me, and Jonathan my son. And Jonathan was taken.
43 Da sagte Saul zu Jonatan: Sag mir, was hast du getan? Jonatan bekannte es ihm und sagte: Ich habe mit der Spitze des Stockes, den ich in der Hand hatte, ein wenig Honig genommen und davon versucht. Ich bin bereit zu sterben.	43 And Saul said to Jonathan: Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him, and said: I did but taste a little honey with the end of the rod, which was in my hand, and behold I must die.
44 Saul erwiderte: Gott möge mir dies und das antun - Jonatan, du musst sterben.	44 And Saul said: May God do so and so to me, and add still more: for dying thou shalt die, O Jonathan.
45 Aber das Volk sagte zu Saul: Soll Jonatan sterben, der so viel für die Rettung Israels getan hat? Das darf nicht sein! So wahr der Herr lebt: Ihm soll kein Haar gekrümmt werden. Denn nur mit Gottes Hilfe hat er heute diese Tat vollbracht. So befreite das Volk Jonatan und er brauchte nicht zu sterben.	45 And the people said to Saul: Shall Jonathan then die, who hath wrought this great salvation in Israel? This must not be. As the Lord liveth, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground, for he hath wrought with God this day. So the people delivered Jonathan, that he should not die.
46 Saul aber gab die Verfolgung der Philister auf und zog wieder hinauf und die Philister kehrten in ihre Städte zurück.	46 And Saul went back, and did not pursue after the Philistines: and the Philistines went to their own places.
47 Als Saul die Königswürde über Israel erlangt hatte, führte er ringsum mit all seinen Feinden Krieg: mit Moab und den Ammonitern, mit Edom und den Königen von Zoba und mit den Philistern. Wohin er sich auch wandte, war er siegreich.	47 And Saul having his kingdom established over Israel, fought against all his enemies round about, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and Edom, and the kings of Soba, and the Philistines; and whithersoever he turned himself, he overcame.
48 Er vollbrachte tapfere Taten, schlug Amalek und befreite Israel aus der Gewalt derer, die es ausraubten.	48 And gathering together an army, he defeated Amalec, and delivered Israel from the hand of them that spoiled them.
49 Die Söhne Sauls waren Jonatan, Jischwi und Malkischua. Die ältere seiner beiden Töchter hieß Merab, die jüngere Michal.	49 And the sons of Saul, were Jonathan, and Jessui, and Melchisua: and the names of his two daughters, the name of the firstborn was Merob, and the name of the younger Michol.
50 Sauls Frau hieß Ahinoam; sie war eine Tochter des Ahimaaz. Sein Heerführer hieß Abner; er war ein Sohn Ners, des Onkels Sauls;	50 And the name of Saul's wife, was Achinoam the daughter of Achimaas; and the name of the captain of his army was Abner, the son of Ner, the cousin german of Saul.
51 Kisch, der Vater Sauls, und Ner, der Vater Abners, waren Söhne Abiëls.	51 For Cis was the father of Saul, and Ner the father of Abner, was son of Abiel.
52 Der harte Krieg gegen die Philister hörte nicht auf, solange Saul lebte. Jeden starken und kriegstüchtigen Mann, den Saul sah, nahm er in seinen Dienst.	52 And there was a great war against the Philistines all the days of Saul. For whomsoever Saul saw to be a valiant man, and fit for war, he took him to himself.
