1 Noomi hatte einen Verwandten von ihrem Mann her, einen Grundbesitzer; er war aus dem Geschlecht Elimelechs und hieß Boas.	1 But there was a man related to Elimelech, a powerful man, and very wealthy, named Boaz.
2 Eines Tages sagte die Moabiterin Rut zu Noomi: Ich möchte aufs Feld gehen und Ähren lesen, wo es mir jemand erlaubt. Sie antwortete ihr: Geh, Tochter!	2 And Ruth, the Moabite, said to her mother-in-law, “If you order, I will go into the field and gather the ears of grain which escape the reaping hand, wherever I will find favor with the father of a family, who will be compassionate to me.” She answered her, “Go, my daughter.”
3 Rut ging hin und las auf dem Feld hinter den Schnittern her. Dabei war sie auf ein Grundstück des Boas aus dem Geschlecht Elimelechs geraten.	3 And so she went and gathered the ears of grain after the completion of the reaping. But it happened that this field was owned by Boaz, who was of the kindred of Elimelech.
4 Und nun kam Boas von Betlehem dazu. Er sagte zu den Schnittern: Der Herr sei mit euch! Sie antworteten ihm: Der Herr segne dich.	4 And behold, he came out of Bethlehem and said to the reapers, “The Lord be with you.” They answered him, “May the Lord bless you.”
5 Boas fragte seinen Knecht, der die Schnitter beaufsichtigte: Wem gehört dieses Mädchen da?	5 And Boaz said to the young man who was in charge of the reapers, “Whose young woman is this?”
6 Der Knecht antwortete: Es ist eine junge Moabiterin, die mit Noomi aus dem Grünland Moabs gekommen ist.	6 He answered him, “This is the Moabite woman, who came with Naomi, from the land of the Moabites,
7 Sie hat gesagt: Ich möchte gern Ähren lesen und bei den Garben hinter den Schnittern her sammeln. So kam sie zu uns und hielt aus vom Morgen bis jetzt und gönnte sich kaum Ruhe.	7 and she asked to gather the remnants of the ears of grain, following the steps of the reapers, and from morning until now she has remained in the field, and, indeed, not for one moment has she returned home.”
8 Boas sagte zu Rut: Höre wohl, meine Tochter, geh auf kein anderes Feld, um zu lesen; entfern dich nicht von hier, sondern halte dich an meine Mägde;	8 And Boaz said to Ruth, “Listen to me, daughter. Do not go to gather in any other field, nor depart from this place, but join with my young women,
9 behalte das Feld im Auge, wo sie ernten, und geh hinter ihnen her! Ich werde meinen Knechten befehlen, dich nicht anzurühren. Hast du Durst, so darfst du zu den Gefäßen gehen und von dem trinken, was die Knechte schöpfen.	9 and follow where they reap. For I given orders to my young men, so that no one is to harass you. And so, whenever you are thirsty, go to the vessels, and drink from the waters that the young men also drink.”
10 Sie sank vor ihm nieder, beugte sich zur Erde und sagte: Wie habe ich es verdient, dass du mich so achtest, da ich doch eine Fremde bin?	10 She, falling on her face and paying homage on the ground, said to him: “How did this happen to me, that I should find favor before your eyes, and that you would condescend to accept me, a foreign woman?”
11 Boas antwortete ihr: Mir wurde alles berichtet, was du nach dem Tod deines Mannes für deine Schwiegermutter getan hast, wie du deinen Vater und deine Mutter, dein Land und deine Verwandtschaft verlassen hast und zu einem Volk gegangen bist, das dir zuvor unbekannt war.	11 He answered her, “Everything has been reported to me, what things you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband, and how you left your parents, and the land in which you were born, and came to a people you did not know before.
12 Der Herr, der Gott Israels, zu dem du gekommen bist, um dich unter seinen Flügeln zu bergen, möge dir dein Tun vergelten und dich reich belohnen.	12 May the Lord repay you for your work, and may you receive a full reward from the Lord, the God of Israel, to whom you have come, and under whose wings you have taken refuge.”
13 Sie sagte: Du bist sehr gütig zu mir, Herr. Du hast mir Mut gemacht und so freundlich zu deiner Magd gesprochen und ich bin nicht einmal eine deiner Mägde.	13 She said, “I have found favor before your eyes, my lord, who has consoled me, and you have spoken to the heart of your handmaid, who is unlike one of your young women.”
14 Zur Essenszeit sagte Boas zu ihr: Komm und iss von dem Brot, tauch deinen Bissen in die Würztunke! Sie setzte sich neben die Schnitter. Er reichte ihr geröstete Körner und sie aß sich satt und behielt noch übrig.	14 And Boaz said to her, “When mealtime begins, come here, and eat bread, and dip your morsel in the vinegar.” And so she sat beside the reapers, and she piled up parched grain for herself, and she ate and was satisfied, and carried off the leftovers.
15 Als sie wieder aufstand zum Ährenlesen, befahl Boas seinen Knechten: Auch wenn sie zwischen den Garben liest, dürft ihr sie nicht schelten.	15 And then she arose from there, so as to gather the ears of grain, according to the custom. But Boaz commanded his servants, saying, “If she is even willing to reap with you, do not prevent her,
16 Ihr sollt sogar für sie etwas aus den Bündeln herausziehen und liegen lassen; sie mag es auflesen und ihr dürft sie nicht schelten.	16 and purposely let fall some from your bundles, and allow them to remain, so that she may gather without blushing, and let no one rebuke her gathering.”
17 So sammelte sie auf dem Feld bis zum Abend. Als sie ausklopfte, was sie aufgelesen hatte, war es etwa ein Efa Gerste.	17 And so she gathered in the field until evening. And striking and threshing with a staff what she had gathered, she found about the measure of an ephah of barley, that is, three measures.
18 Sie hob es auf, ging in die Stadt und zeigte ihrer Schwiegermutter, was sie aufgelesen hatte. Dann packte sie aus, was sie von ihrer Mahlzeit übrig behalten hatte, und gab es ihr.	18 Carrying this, she returned into the city and showed it to her mother-in-law. Moreover, she offered it to her and even gave her the leftovers of her food, with which she had been satisfied.
19 Ihre Schwiegermutter fragte: Wo hast du heute gelesen und gearbeitet? Gesegnet sei, der auf dich Acht hatte. Sie berichtete ihrer Schwiegermutter, bei wem sie gearbeitet hatte, und sagte: Der Mann, bei dem ich heute gearbeitet habe, heißt Boas.	19 And her mother-in-law said to her, “Where have you gathered today, and where have you found work? Blessed is he who took pity on you!” And she informed her with whom she had been working, and she said the man’s name, that he was called Boaz.
20 Da sagte Noomi zu ihrer Schwiegertochter: Gesegnet sei er vom Herrn, der seine Gunst den Lebenden und Toten nicht entzogen hat. Und sie erzählte ihr: Der Mann ist mit uns verwandt, er ist einer unserer Löser.	20 Naomi answered her, “May he be blessed by the Lord, because the same kindness which he provided for the living, he also kept for the dead.” And again she said: “This man is our near relative.”
21 Die Moabiterin Rut sagte: Er hat noch zu mir gesagt: Halte dich an meine Knechte, bis sie meine Ernte eingebracht haben.	21 And Ruth said, “He charged me with this also, that from now on I should join with his reapers until all the crop has been reaped.”
22 Gut, meine Tochter, sagte Noomi zu Rut, wenn du mit seinen Mägden hinausgehst, dann kann man dich auf einem anderen Feld nicht belästigen.	22 And her mother-in-law said to her, “It is better, my daughter, to go out reaping with his young women, lest in a stranger’s field someone may confront you.”
23 Rut hielt sich beim Ährenlesen an die Mägde des Boas, bis die Gersten- und Weizenernte beendet war. Danach blieb sie bei ihrer Schwiegermutter.	23 And so, she joined with the young women of Boaz, and from then on reaped with them, until the barley and the wheat were stored in the barns.
