1 Als Jabin, der König von Hazor, das hörte, schickte er Boten zu Jobab, dem König von Madon, zum König von Schimron, zum König von Achschaf	1 When Jabin king of Hazor heard of this, he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,
2 und zu den Königen im Norden auf dem Gebirge und in der Araba südlich von Kinneret, in der Schefela und auf den Höhen von Dor im Westen,	2 and to the kings who were in the northern hill country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in Naphoth-dor on the west,
3 zu den Kanaanitern im Osten und im Westen, zu den Amoritern, Hetitern und Perisitern, zu den Jebusitern im Gebirge und den Hiwitern am Fuß des Hermon im Land Mizpe.	3 to the Canaanites in the east and the west, the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, and the Jebusites in the hill country, and the Hivites under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.
4 Da rückten sie aus mit all ihren Truppen, einem Heer so groß und zahlreich wie der Sand am Ufer des Meeres, dazu mit einer großen Menge von Pferden und Wagen.	4 And they came out, with all their troops, a great host, in number like the sand that is upon the seashore, with very many horses and chariots.
5 Alle diese Könige taten sich zusammen, rückten heran und bezogen gemeinsam ihr Lager bei den Wassern von Merom, um den Kampf mit Israel aufzunehmen.	5 And all these kings joined their forces, and came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.
6 Der Herr sagte zu Josua: Fürchte dich nicht vor ihnen! Denn morgen um diese Zeit werde ich sie alle erschlagen Israel zu Füßen legen. Du wirst ihre Pferde lähmen und ihre Wagen in Brand stecken.	6 And the LORD said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid of them, for tomorrow at this time I will give over all of them, slain, to Israel; you shall hamstring their horses, and burn their chariots with fire."
7 Da rückte Josua mit dem ganzen Heer an den Wassern von Merom plötzlich gegen sie vor und überfiel sie.	7 So Joshua came suddenly upon them with all his people of war, by the waters of Merom, and fell upon them.
8 Der Herr gab sie in die Gewalt der Israeliten und die Israeliten schlugen sie und verfolgten sie bis Groß-Sidon und Misrefot-Majim und bis zur Ebene von Mizpe im Osten. Sie schlugen sie so vernichtend, dass keiner von ihnen übrig blieb, der hätte entkommen können.	8 And the LORD gave them into the hand of Israel, who smote them and chased them as far as Great Sidon and Misrephoth-maim, and eastward as far as the valley of Mizpeh; and they smote them, until they left none remaining.
9 Josua machte mit ihnen, was der Herr ihm gesagt hatte: Er lähmte ihre Pferde und steckte ihre Wagen in Brand.	9 And Joshua did to them as the LORD bade him; he hamstrung their horses, and burned their chariots with fire.
10 Daraufhin kehrte Josua um und nahm Hazor ein; ihren König erschlug er mit dem Schwert. Hazor hatte früher die Oberherrschaft über alle diese Königreiche.	10 And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote its king with the sword; for Hazor formerly was the head of all those kingdoms.
11 Die Israeliten erschlugen alles, was in der Stadt lebte, mit scharfem Schwert und weihten es dem Untergang. Nichts Lebendiges blieb übrig. Die Stadt selbst steckte man in Brand.	11 And they put to the sword all who were in it, utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed, and he burned Hazor with fire.
12 Aller dieser Königsstädte samt ihren Königen bemächtigte sich Josua; er erschlug alles mit scharfem Schwert und weihte es dem Untergang, wie Mose, der Knecht des Herrn, befohlen hatte.	12 And all the cities of those kings, and all their kings, Joshua took, and smote them with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them, as Moses the servant of the LORD had commanded.
13 Alle die Städte, die (heute noch) auf ihren Trümmerhügeln stehen, verbrannte Israel nicht; nur Hazor brannte Josua nieder.	13 But none of the cities that stood on mounds did Israel burn, except Hazor only; that Joshua burned.
14 Den ganzen Besitz aus diesen Städten und das Vieh nahmen die Israeliten für sich, die Menschen aber erschlugen sie alle mit scharfem Schwert und rotteten sie völlig aus. Niemand ließen sie am Leben.	14 And all the spoil of these cities and the cattle, the people of Israel took for their booty; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, and they did not leave any that breathed.
15 Wie der Herr es seinem Knecht Mose befohlen hatte, so hatte es Mose Josua befohlen und so führte Josua es aus: Er unterließ nichts von all dem, was der Herr dem Mose befohlen hatte.	15 As the LORD had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD had commanded Moses.
16 So nahm Josua dieses ganze Land ein, das Gebirge und den ganzen Negeb, das ganze Land Goschen und die Schefela, die Araba und das Gebirge Israels mit seiner Schefela:	16 So Joshua took all that land, the hill country and all the Negeb and all the land of Goshen and the lowland and the Arabah and the hill country of Israel and its lowland
17 (das ganze Land) von den kahlen Bergen, die nach Seïr hin ansteigen, bis nach Baal-Gad in der Libanonsenke am Fuß des Hermongebirges. Alle ihre Könige nahm Josua gefangen und schlug sie tot.	17 from Mount Halak, that rises toward Seir, as far as Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon below Mount Hermon. And he took all their kings, and smote them, and put them to death.
18 Lange Zeit führte Josua gegen alle diese Könige Krieg.	18 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.
19 Es gab keine Stadt, die mit den Israeliten Frieden geschlossen hätte, außer den Hiwitern, die Gibeon bewohnten. Alle musste man im Kampf nehmen.	19 There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel, except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon; they took all in battle.
20 Denn vom Herrn war beschlossen worden, ihr Herz angesichts des Kampfes mit Israel zu verhärten, um sie dem Untergang zu weihen; Israel sollte keine Gnade bei ihnen walten lassen, sondern sie ausrotten, wie es der Herr dem Mose befohlen hatte.	20 For it was the LORD's doing to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be utterly destroyed, and should receive no mercy but be exterminated, as the LORD commanded Moses.
21 Damals zog Josua auch gegen die Anakiter, die im Gebirge, in Hebron, in Debir, in Anab, im Bergland von Juda und im Bergland von Israel wohnten; er rottete sie überall aus und weihte sie samt ihren Städten dem Untergang.	21 And Joshua came at that time, and wiped out the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel; Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.
22 Im Land der Israeliten blieben keine Anakiter übrig; nur in Gaza, Gat und Aschdod verblieben sie.	22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the people of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.
23 Josua nahm das ganze Land ein, genau so, wie es der Herr zu Mose gesagt hatte, und Josua verteilte es als Erbbesitz an Israel entsprechend seiner Stammeseinteilung. Dann war der Krieg zu Ende und das Land hatte Ruhe.	23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war.
