Der Brief an die Galater 3

EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ihr unvernünftigen Galater, wer hat euch verblendet? Ist euch Jesus Christus nicht deutlich als der Gekreuzigte vor Augen gestellt worden?	1 You stupid people in Galatia! After you have had a clear picture of Jesus Christ crucified, right in front ofyour eyes, who has put a spell on you?
2 Dies eine möchte ich von euch erfahren: Habt ihr den Geist durch die Werke des Gesetzes oder durch die Botschaft des Glaubens empfangen?	2 There is only one thing I should like you to tel me: How was it that you received the Spirit -- was it bythe practice of the Law, or by believing in the message you heard?
3 Seid ihr so unvernünftig? Am Anfang habt ihr auf den Geist vertraut und jetzt erwartet ihr vom Fleisch die Vollendung.	3 Having begun in the Spirit, can you be so stupid as to end in the flesh?
4 Habt ihr denn so Großes vergeblich erfahren? Sollte es wirklich vergeblich gewesen sein?	4 Can al the favours you have received have had no effect at al -- if there real y has been no effect?
5 Warum gibt euch denn Gott den Geist und bewirkt Wundertaten unter euch? Weil ihr das Gesetz befolgt oder weil ihr die Botschaft des Glaubens angenommen habt?	5 Would you say, then, that he who so lavishly sends the Spirit to you, and causes the miracles amongyou, is doing this through your practice of the Law or because you believed the message you heard?
6 Von Abraham wird gesagt: Er glaubte Gott, und das wurde ihm als Gerechtigkeit angerechnet.	6 Abraham, you remember, put his faith in God, and this was reckoned to him as uprightness.
7 Daran erkennt ihr, dass nur die, die glauben, Abrahams Söhne sind.	7 Be sure, then, that it is people of faith who are the children of Abraham.
8 Und da die Schrift vorhersah, dass Gott die Heiden aufgrund des Glaubens gerecht macht, hat sie dem Abraham im Voraus verkündet: Durch dich sollen alle Völker Segen erlangen.	8 And it was because scripture foresaw that God would give saving justice to the gentiles through faith,that it announced the future gospel to Abraham in the words: Al nations wil be blessed in you.
9 Also gehören alle, die glauben, zu dem glaubenden Abraham und werden wie er gesegnet.	9 So it is people of faith who receive the same blessing as Abraham, the man of faith.
10 Alle aber, die nach dem Gesetz leben, stehen unter dem Fluch. Denn in der Schrift heißt es: Verflucht ist jeder, der sich nicht an alles hält, was zu tun das Buch des Gesetzes vorschreibt.	10 On the other hand, all those who depend on the works of the Law are under a curse, since scripturesays: Accursed be he who does not make what is written in the book of the Law effective, by putting it intopractice.
11 Dass durch das Gesetz niemand vor Gott gerecht wird, ist offenkundig; denn: Der aus Glauben Gerechte wird leben.	11 Now it is obvious that nobody is reckoned as upright in God's sight by the Law, since the upright willlive through faith;
12 Das Gesetz aber hat nichts mit dem Glauben zu tun, sondern es gilt: Wer die Gebote erfüllt, wird durch sie leben.	12 and the Law is based not on faith but on the principle, whoever complies with it will find life in it.
13 Christus hat uns vom Fluch des Gesetzes freigekauft, indem er für uns zum Fluch geworden ist; denn es steht in der Schrift: Verflucht ist jeder, der am Pfahl hängt.	13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law by being cursed for our sake since scripture says:Anyone hanged is accursed,
14 Jesus Christus hat uns freigekauft, damit den Heiden durch ihn der Segen Abrahams zuteil wird und wir so aufgrund des Glaubens den verheißenen Geist empfangen.	14 so that the blessing of Abraham might come to the gentiles in Christ Jesus, and so that we mightreceive the promised Spirit through faith.
15 Brüder, ich nehme einen Vergleich aus dem menschlichen Leben: Niemand setzt das rechtsgültig festgelegte Testament eines Menschen außer Kraft oder versieht es mit einem Zusatz.	15 To put it in human terms, my brothers: even when a will is only a human one, once it has been ratifiednobody can cancel it or add more provisions to it.
16 Abraham und seinem Nachkommen wurden die Verheißungen zugesprochen. Es heißt nicht: «und den Nachkommen», als wären viele gemeint, sondern es wird nur von einem gesprochen: und deinem Nachkommen; das aber ist Christus.	16 Now the promises were addressed to Abraham and to his progeny. The words were not and to hisprogenies in the plural, but in the singular; and to your progeny, which means Christ.
17 Damit meine ich: Das Testament, dem Gott einst Gültigkeit verliehen hat, wird durch das vierhundertdreißig Jahre später erlassene Gesetz nicht ungültig, sodass die Verheißung aufgehoben wäre.	17 What I am saying is this: once a wil had been long ago ratified by God, the Law, coming four hundredand thirty years later, could not abolish it and so nul ify its promise.
18 Würde sich das Erbe nämlich aus dem Gesetz herleiten, dann eben nicht mehr aus der Verheißung. Gott hat aber durch die Verheißung Abraham Gnade erwiesen.	18 You see, if the inheritance comes by the Law, it no longer comes through a promise; but it was by apromise that God made his gift to Abraham.
19 Warum gibt es dann das Gesetz? Wegen der Übertretungen wurde es hinzugefügt, bis der Nachkomme käme, dem die Verheißung gilt. Es wurde durch Engel erlassen und durch einen Mittler bekannt gegeben.	19 Then what is the purpose of the Law? It was added to deal with crimes until the 'progeny' to whom thepromise had been made should come; and it was promulgated through angels, by the agency of an intermediary.
20 Einen Mittler gibt es jedoch nicht, wo nur einer handelt; Gott aber ist «der Eine».	20 Now there can be an intermediary only between two parties, yet God is one.
21 Hebt also das Gesetz die Verheißungen auf? Keineswegs! Wäre ein Gesetz gegeben worden, das die Kraft hat, lebendig zu machen, dann käme in der Tat die Gerechtigkeit aus dem Gesetz;	21 Is the Law contrary, then, to God's promises? Out of the question! If the Law that was given had beencapable of giving life, then certainly saving justice would have come from the Law.
22 stattdessen hat die Schrift alles der Sünde unterworfen, damit durch den Glauben an Jesus Christus die Verheißung sich an denen erfüllt, die glauben.	22 As it is, scripture makes no exception when it says that sin is master everywhere; so the promise canbe given only by faith in Jesus Christ to those who have this faith.
23 Ehe der Glaube kam, waren wir im Gefängnis des Gesetzes, festgehalten bis zu der Zeit, da der Glaube offenbart werden sollte.	23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the Law, locked up to wait for the faith whichwould eventual y be revealed to us.
24 So hat das Gesetz uns in Zucht gehalten bis zum Kommen Christi, damit wir durch den Glauben gerecht gemacht werden.	24 So the Law was serving as a slave to look after us, to lead us to Christ, so that we could be justified byfaith.
25 Nachdem aber der Glaube gekommen ist, stehen wir nicht mehr unter dieser Zucht.	25 But now that faith has come we are no longer under a slave looking after us;
26 Ihr seid alle durch den Glauben Söhne Gottes in Christus Jesus.	26 for al of you are the children of God, through faith, in Christ Jesus,
27 Denn ihr alle, die ihr auf Christus getauft seid, habt Christus (als Gewand) angelegt.	27 since every one of you that has been baptised has been clothed in Christ.
28 Es gibt nicht mehr Juden und Griechen, nicht Sklaven und Freie, nicht Mann und Frau; denn ihr alle seid «einer» in Christus Jesus.	28 There can be neither Jew nor Greek, there can be neither slave nor freeman, there can be neithermale nor female -- for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 Wenn ihr aber zu Christus gehört, dann seid ihr Abrahams Nachkommen, Erben kraft der Verheißung.	29 And simply by being Christ's, you are that progeny of Abraham, the heirs named in the promise.
