1 Brüder, wir wollen euch jetzt von der Gnade erzählen, die Gott den Gemeinden Mazedoniens erwiesen hat.	1 Next, brothers, we will tel you of the grace of God which has been granted to the churches ofMacedonia,
2 Während sie durch große Not geprüft wurden, verwandelten sich ihre übergroße Freude und ihre tiefe Armut in den Reichtum ihres selbstlosen Gebens.	2 and how, throughout continual ordeals of hardship, their unfailing joy and their intense poverty haveoverflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.
3 Ich bezeuge, dass sie nach Kräften und sogar über ihre Kräfte spendeten, ganz von sich aus,	3 I can testify that it was of their own accord that they made their gift, which was not merely as far as theirresources would al ow, but wel beyond their resources;
4 indem sie sich geradezu aufdrängten und uns um die Gunst baten, zur Hilfeleistung für die Heiligen beitragen zu dürfen.	4 and they had kept imploring us most insistently for the privilege of a share in the fellowship of service toGod's holy people-
5 Und über unsere Erwartung hinaus haben sie sich eingesetzt, zunächst für den Herrn, aber auch für uns, wie es Gottes Wille war.	5 it was not something that we expected of them, but it began by their offering themselves to the Lordand to us at the prompting of the wil of God.
6 Daraufhin ermutigten wir Titus, dieses Liebeswerk, das er früher bei euch begonnen hatte, nun auch zu vollenden.	6 In the end we urged Titus, since he had already made a beginning, also to bring this work of generosityto completion among you.
7 Wie ihr aber an allem reich seid, an Glauben, Rede und Erkenntnis, an jedem Eifer und an der Liebe, die wir in euch begründet haben, so sollt ihr euch auch an diesem Liebeswerk mit reichlichen Spenden beteiligen.	7 More, as you are rich in everything-faith, eloquence, understanding, concern for everything, and lovefor us too -- then make sure that you excel in this work of generosity too.
8 Ich meine das nicht als strenge Weisung, aber ich gebe euch Gelegenheit, angesichts des Eifers anderer auch eure Liebe als echt zu erweisen.	8 I am not saying this as an order, but testing the genuineness of your love against the concern of others.
9 Denn ihr wisst, was Jesus Christus, unser Herr, in seiner Liebe getan hat: Er, der reich war, wurde euretwegen arm, um euch durch seine Armut reich zu machen.	9 You are wel aware of the generosity which our Lord Jesus Christ had, that, although he was rich, hebecame poor for your sake, so that you should become rich through his poverty.
10 Ich gebe euch nur einen Rat, der euch helfen soll; ihr habt ja schon voriges Jahr angefangen, etwas zu unternehmen, und zwar aus eigenem Entschluss.	10 I will give you my considered opinion in the matter; this wil be the right course for you as you were thefirst, a year ago, not only to take any action but also even to conceive the project.
11 Jetzt sollt ihr das Begonnene zu Ende führen, damit das Ergebnis dem guten Willen entspricht - je nach eurem Besitz.	11 Now, then, complete the action as wel , so that the fulfilment may -- so far as your resources permit --be proportionate to your enthusiasm for the project.
12 Wenn nämlich der gute Wille da ist, dann ist jeder willkommen mit dem, was er hat, und man fragt nicht nach dem, was er nicht hat.	12 As long as the enthusiasm is there, the basis on which it is acceptable is what someone has, not whatsomeone does not have.
13 Denn es geht nicht darum, dass ihr in Not geratet, indem ihr anderen helft; es geht um einen Ausgleich.	13 It is not that you ought to relieve other people's needs and leave yourselves in hardship; but thereshould be a fair balance-
14 Im Augenblick soll euer Überfluss ihrem Mangel abhelfen, damit auch ihr Überfluss einmal eurem Mangel abhilft. So soll ein Ausgleich entstehen,	14 your surplus at present may fil their deficit, and another time their surplus may fil your deficit. Sothere may be a fair balance;
15 wie es in der Schrift heißt: Wer viel gesammelt hatte, hatte nicht zu viel, und wer wenig, hatte nicht zu wenig.	15 as scripture says: No one who had collected more had too much, no one who col ected less had toolittle.
16 Dank sei Gott, der den gleichen Eifer für euch auch Titus ins Herz gelegt hat.	16 Thank God for putting into Titus' heart the same sincere concern for you.
17 Denn Titus war mit meinem Vorschlag einverstanden und sein Eifer war so groß, dass er aus eigenem Entschluss gleich zu euch abreiste.	17 He certainly took our urging to heart; but greater still was his own enthusiasm, and he went off to youof his own accord.
18 Zusammen mit ihm haben wir den Bruder geschickt, der wegen seiner Verkündigung des Evangeliums in allen Gemeinden Anerkennung findet	18 We have sent with him the brother who is praised as an evangelist in al the churches
19 und außerdem von den Gemeinden dazu bestimmt wurde, unser Reisegefährte zu sein, wenn wir diese Liebesgabe zur Ehre des Herrn und als Zeichen unseres guten Willens überbringen.	19 and who, what is more, was elected by the churches to be our travel ing companion in this work ofgenerosity, a work to be administered by us for the glory of the Lord and our complete satisfaction.
20 Denn angesichts der großen Spende, die von uns überbracht werden soll, möchten wir vermeiden, dass man uns verdächtigt.	20 We arranged it this way so that no one should be able to make any accusation against us about thislarge sum we are administering.
21 Es liegt uns nämlich daran, dass alles einwandfrei zugeht, nicht nur vor dem Herrn, sondern auch vor den Menschen.	21 And so we have been careful to do right not only in the sight of the Lord but also in the sight of people.
22 Wir haben aber mit den beiden noch einen weiteren Bruder geschickt, dessen Eifer wir vielfach und bei vielen Gelegenheiten feststellen konnten und der sich in diesem Fall noch eifriger zeigt, weil er viel von euch erwartet.	22 Along with these, we have sent a brother of ours whose eagerness we have tested over and overagain in many ways and who is now all the more eager because he has so much faith in you.
23 Was nun Titus angeht: Er ist mein Gefährte und mein Mitarbeiter, der für euch tätig ist; unsere anderen Brüder aber sind Abgesandte der Gemeinden und ein Abglanz Christi.	23 If Titus is in question -- he is my own partner and fellow-worker in your interests; and if our brothers --they are the emissaries of the churches and the glory of Christ.
24 Legt also ihnen gegenüber und damit vor den Gemeinden das Zeugnis eurer Liebe ab und zeigt, dass wir euch zu Recht gerühmt haben.	24 So then, in full view of al the churches, give proof that you love them, and that we were right to boastof you to them.
