Der Brief an die Römer 13

EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Jeder leiste den Trägern der staatlichen Gewalt den schuldigen Gehorsam. Denn es gibt keine staatliche Gewalt, die nicht von Gott stammt; jede ist von Gott eingesetzt.	1 Everyone is to obey the governing authorities, because there is no authority except from God and sowhatever authorities exist have been appointed by God.
2 Wer sich daher der staatlichen Gewalt widersetzt, stellt sich gegen die Ordnung Gottes, und wer sich ihm entgegenstellt, wird dem Gericht verfallen.	2 So anyone who disobeys an authority is rebel ing against God's ordinance; and rebels must expect toreceive the condemnation they deserve.
3 Vor den Trägern der Macht hat sich nicht die gute, sondern die böse Tat zu fürchten; willst du also ohne Furcht vor der staatlichen Gewalt leben, dann tue das Gute, sodass du ihre Anerkennung findest.	3 Magistrates bring fear not to those who do good, but to those who do evil. So if you want to live withno fear of authority, live honestly and you wil have its approval;
4 Sie steht im Dienst Gottes und verlangt, dass du das Gute tust. Wenn du aber Böses tust, fürchte dich! Denn nicht ohne Grund trägt sie das Schwert. Sie steht im Dienst Gottes und vollstreckt das Urteil an dem, der Böses tut.	4 it is there to serve God for you and for your good. But if you do wrong, then you may wel be afraid;because it is not for nothing that the symbol of authority is the sword: it is there to serve God, too, as hisavenger, to bring retribution to wrongdoers.
5 Deshalb ist es notwendig, Gehorsam zu leisten, nicht allein aus Furcht vor der Strafe, sondern vor allem um des Gewissens willen.	5 You must be obedient, therefore, not only because of this retribution, but also for conscience's sake.
6 Das ist auch der Grund, weshalb ihr Steuern zahlt; denn in Gottes Auftrag handeln jene, die Steuern einzuziehen haben.	6 And this is why you should pay taxes, too, because the authorities are al serving God as his agents,even while they are busily occupied with that particular task.
7 Gebt allen, was ihr ihnen schuldig seid, sei es Steuer oder Zoll, sei es Furcht oder Ehre.	7 Pay to each one what is due to each: taxes to the one to whom tax is due, tol s to the one to whomtol s are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honour to the one to whom honour is due.
8 Bleibt niemand etwas schuldig; nur die Liebe schuldet ihr einander immer. Wer den andern liebt, hat das Gesetz erfüllt.	8 The only thing you should owe to anyone is love for one another, for to love the other person is tofulfil the law.
9 Denn die Gebote: Du sollst nicht die Ehe brechen, du sollst nicht töten, du sollst nicht stehlen, du sollst nicht begehren!, und alle anderen Gebote sind in dem einen Satz zusammengefasst: Du sollst deinen Nächsten lieben wie dich selbst.	9 Al these: You shal not commit adultery, You shal not kil , You shal not steal, You shal not covet,and all the other commandments that there are, are summed up in this single phrase: You must love yourneighbour as yourself.
10 Die Liebe tut dem Nächsten nichts Böses. Also ist die Liebe die Erfüllung des Gesetzes.	10 Love can cause no harm to your neighbour, and so love is the fulfilment of the Law.
11 Bedenkt die gegenwärtige Zeit: Die Stunde ist gekommen, aufzustehen vom Schlaf. Denn jetzt ist das Heil uns näher als zu der Zeit, da wir gläubig wurden.	11 Besides, you know the time has come; the moment is here for you to stop sleeping and wake up,because by now our salvation is nearer than when we first began to believe.
12 Die Nacht ist vorgerückt, der Tag ist nahe. Darum lasst uns ablegen die Werke der Finsternis und anlegen die Waffen des Lichts.	12 The night is nearly over, daylight is on the way; so let us throw off everything that belongs to thedarkness and equip ourselves for the light.
13 Lasst uns ehrenhaft leben wie am Tag, ohne maßloses Essen und Trinken, ohne Unzucht und Ausschweifung, ohne Streit und Eifersucht.	13 Let us live decently, as in the light of day; with no orgies or drunkenness, no promiscuity orlicentiousness, and no wrangling or jealousy.
14 Legt (als neues Gewand) den Herrn Jesus Christus an und sorgt nicht so für euren Leib, dass die Begierden erwachen.	14 Let your armour be the Lord Jesus Christ, and stop worrying about how your disordered naturalinclinations may be fulfil ed.
