1 Paulus schaute mit festem Blick auf den Hohen Rat und sagte: Brüder! Bis zum heutigen Tag lebe ich vor Gott mit völlig reinem Gewissen.	1 Then Paul, gazing intently at the council, said, “Noble brothers, I have spoken with all good conscience before God, even to this present day.”
2 Der Hohepriester Hananias aber befahl denen, die bei ihm standen, ihn auf den Mund zu schlagen.	2 And the high priest, Ananias, instructed those who were standing nearby to strike him on the mouth.
3 Da sagte Paulus zu ihm: Dich wird Gott schlagen, du übertünchte Wand! Du sitzt hier, um mich nach dem Gesetz zu richten, und entgegen dem Gesetz befiehlst du, mich zu schlagen?	3 Then Paul said to him: “God shall strike you, you whitewashed wall! For would you sit and judge me according to the law, when, contrary to the law, you order me to be struck?”
4 Die Umstehenden sagten: Du wagst es, den Hohenpriester Gottes zu schmähen?	4 And those who were standing nearby said, “Are you speaking evil about the high priest of God?”
5 Paulus antwortete: Ich wusste nicht, Brüder, dass er der Hohepriester ist. Denn es heißt in der Schrift: Einen Fürsten deines Volkes sollst du nicht verfluchen.	5 And Paul said: “I did not know, brothers, that he is the high priest. For it is written: ‘You shall not speak evil of the leader of your people.’ ”
6 Da Paulus aber wusste, dass der eine Teil zu den Sadduzäern, der andere zu den Pharisäern gehörte, rief er vor dem Hohen Rat aus: Brüder, ich bin Pharisäer und ein Sohn von Pharisäern; wegen der Hoffnung und wegen der Auferstehung der Toten stehe ich vor Gericht.	6 Now Paul, knowing that one group were Sadducees and the other were Pharisees, exclaimed in the council: “Noble brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of Pharisees! It is over the hope and resurrection of the dead that I am being judged.”
7 Als er das sagte, brach ein Streit zwischen den Pharisäern und den Sadduzäern aus, und die Versammlung spaltete sich.	7 And when he had said this, a dissension occurred between the Pharisees and the Sadducees. And the multitude was divided.
8 Die Sadduzäer behaupten nämlich, es gebe weder eine Auferstehung noch Engel noch Geister, die Pharisäer dagegen bekennen sich zu all dem.	8 For the Sadducees claim that there is no resurrection, and neither angels, nor spirits. But the Pharisees confess both of these.
9 Es erhob sich ein lautes Geschrei und einige Schriftgelehrte aus dem Kreis der Pharisäer standen auf und verfochten ihre Ansicht. Sie sagten: Wir finden nichts Schlimmes an diesem Menschen. Vielleicht hat doch ein Geist oder ein Engel zu ihm gesprochen.	9 Then there occurred a great clamor. And some of the Pharisees, rising up, were fighting, saying: “We find nothing evil in this man. What if a spirit has spoken to him, or an angel?”
10 Als der Streit heftiger wurde, befürchtete der Oberst, sie könnten Paulus zerreißen. Daher ließ er die Wachtruppe herabkommen, ihn mit Gewalt aus ihrer Mitte herausholen und in die Kaserne bringen.	10 And since a great dissension had been made, the tribune, fearing that Paul might be torn apart by them, ordered the soldiers to descend and to seize him from their midst, and to bring him into the fortress.
11 In der folgenden Nacht aber trat der Herr zu Paulus und sagte: Hab Mut! Denn so wie du in Jerusalem meine Sache bezeugt hast, sollst du auch in Rom Zeugnis ablegen.	11 Then, on the following night, the Lord stood near him and said: “Be constant. For just as you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so also it is necessary for you to testify at Rome.”
12 Nach Tagesanbruch rotteten sich die Juden zusammen und schworen einen heiligen Eid, weder zu essen noch zu trinken, bis sie Paulus getötet hätten.	12 And when daylight arrived, some of the Jews gathered together and bound themselves with an oath, saying that they would neither eat nor drink until they had killed Paul.
13 An dieser Verschwörung waren mehr als vierzig Männer beteiligt.	13 Now there were more than forty men who had taken this oath together.
14 Sie gingen zu den Hohenpriestern und den Ältesten und sagten: Wir haben mit einem heiligen Eid geschworen, nichts zu essen, bis wir Paulus getötet haben.	14 And they approached the leaders of the priests, and the elders, and they said: “We have sworn ourselves by an oath, so that we will taste nothing, until we have killed Paul.
15 Geht also jetzt zusammen mit dem Hohen Rat zum Obersten und bittet ihn, Paulus zu euch herunterzuführen, da ihr den Fall noch genauer untersuchen wollt; wir aber halten uns bereit, um ihn, noch bevor er hierher kommt, umzubringen.	15 Therefore, with the council, you should now give notice to the tribune, so that he may bring him to you, as if you intended to determine something else about him. But before he approaches, we have made preparations to put him to death.”
16 Der Neffe des Paulus, der Sohn seiner Schwester, erfuhr jedoch von dem Anschlag. Er ging in die Kaserne und verständigte Paulus.	16 But when Paul’s sister’s son had heard of this, about their treachery, he went and entered into the fortress, and he reported it to Paul.
17 Paulus ließ einen der Hauptleute rufen und sagte: Bring diesen jungen Mann zum Obersten, denn er hat ihm etwas zu melden.	17 And Paul, calling to him one of the centurions, said: “Lead this young man to the tribune. For he has something to tell him.”
18 Der nahm ihn mit sich, brachte ihn zum Obersten und sagte: Der Gefangene Paulus hat mich gerufen und gebeten, diesen jungen Mann zu dir zu führen, da er dir etwas mitzuteilen habe.	18 And indeed, he took him and led him to the tribune, and he said, “Paul, the prisoner, asked me to lead this young man to you, since he has something to say to you.”
19 Der Oberst fasste ihn bei der Hand, nahm ihn beiseite und fragte: Was hast du mir zu melden?	19 Then the tribune, taking him by the hand, withdrew with him by themselves, and he asked him: “What is it that you have to tell me?”
20 Er antwortete: Die Juden haben verabredet, dich zu bitten, du mögest morgen den Paulus vor den Hohen Rat hinunterführen lassen. Angeblich wollen sie Genaueres über ihn erfahren.	20 Then he said: “The Jews have met to ask you to bring Paul tomorrow to the council, as if they intended to question him about something else.
21 Trau ihnen nicht! Denn mehr als vierzig Männer von ihnen lauern ihm auf. Sie haben sich geschworen, weder zu essen noch zu trinken, bis sie ihn umgebracht haben; schon stehen sie bereit und warten auf deine Anordnung.	21 But truly, you should not believe them, for they would ambush him with more than forty men from among them, who have bound themselves by an oath neither to eat, nor to drink, until they have put him to death. And they are now prepared, hoping for an affirmation from you.”
22 Der Oberst befahl dem jungen Mann: Sag niemand etwas darüber, dass du mir das angezeigt hast. Dann ließ er ihn gehen.	22 And then the tribune dismissed the young man, instructing him not to tell anyone that he had made known these things to him.
23 Er rief zwei von den Hauptleuten und gab ihnen den Befehl: Haltet von der dritten Stunde der Nacht an zweihundert Soldaten zum Marsch nach Cäsarea bereit, außerdem siebzig Reiter und zweihundert Leichtbewaffnete;	23 Then, having called two centurions, he said to them: “Prepare two hundred soldiers, so that they may go as far as Caesarea, and seventy horsemen, and two hundred spearmen, for the third hour of the night.
24 auch Tragtiere soll man bereitstellen, Paulus aufsitzen lassen und sicher zum Statthalter Felix bringen.	24 And prepare beasts of burden to carry Paul, so that they may lead him safely to Felix, the governor.”
25 Und er schrieb einen Brief mit folgendem Inhalt:	25 For he was afraid, lest perhaps the Jews might seize him and kill him, and that afterwards he would be falsely accused, as if he had accepted a bribe. And so he wrote a letter containing the following:
26 Klaudius Lysias entbietet dem erlauchten Statthalter Felix seinen Gruß!	26 “Claudius Lysias, to the most excellent governor, Felix: greetings.
27 Dieser Mann wurde von den Juden ergriffen und wäre beinahe von ihnen umgebracht worden; da habe ich mit der Wachtruppe eingegriffen und ihn befreit. Ich hatte nämlich erfahren, dass er Römer ist.	27 This man, having been apprehended by the Jews and being about to be put to death by them, I rescued, overwhelming them with soldiers, since I realized that he is a Roman.
28 Und weil ich ermitteln wollte, wessen sie ihn beschuldigen, brachte ich ihn vor ihren Hohen Rat.	28 And wanting to know the reason that they objected to him, I brought him into their council.
29 Ich fand heraus, dass er wegen Streitfragen über ihr Gesetz angeschuldigt wird, dass aber keine Anklage gegen ihn vorliegt, auf die Tod oder Haft steht.	29 And I discovered him to be accused about questions of their law. Yet truly, nothing deserving of death or imprisonment was within the accusation.
30 Da mir aber angezeigt wurde, gegen den Mann sei ein Anschlag geplant, schicke ich ihn sogleich zu dir; auch habe ich die Kläger angewiesen, ihre Sache gegen ihn bei dir vorzubringen.	30 And when I had been given news of ambushes, which they had prepared against him, I sent him to you, notifying his accusers also, so that they may plead their accusations before you. Farewell.”
31 Die Soldaten übernahmen Paulus, wie ihnen befohlen war, und brachten ihn bei Nacht bis Antipatris.	31 Therefore the soldiers, taking Paul according to their orders, brought him by night to Antipatris.
32 Am anderen Tag ließen sie die Reiter mit ihm weiterziehen und kehrten in die Kaserne zurück.	32 And the next day, sending the horsemen to go with him, they returned to the fortress.
33 Diese gaben nach ihrer Ankunft in Cäsarea den Brief beim Statthalter ab und führten ihm Paulus vor.	33 And when they had arrived at Caesarea and had delivered the letter to the governor, they also presented Paul before him.
34 Er las (den Brief) und fragte Paulus, aus welcher Provinz er stamme. Als er hörte, er sei aus Zilizien,	34 And when he had read it and had asked which province he was from, realizing that he was from Cilicia, he said:
35 sagte er: Ich werde dich vernehmen, sobald deine Ankläger eingetroffen sind. Dann befahl er, ihn im Prätorium des Herodes in Gewahrsam zu halten.	35 “I will hear you, when your accusers have arrived.” And he ordered him to be kept in the praetorium of Herod.
