1 Das habe ich euch gesagt, damit ihr keinen Anstoß nehmt.	1 “These things I have spoken to you, so that you would not stumble.
2 Sie werden euch aus der Synagoge ausstoßen, ja es kommt die Stunde, in der jeder, der euch tötet, meint, Gott einen heiligen Dienst zu leisten.	2 They will put you out of the synagogues. But the hour is coming when everyone who puts you to death will consider that he is offering an excellent service to God.
3 Das werden sie tun, weil sie weder den Vater noch mich erkannt haben.	3 And they will do these things to you because they have not known the Father, nor me.
4 aIch habe es euch gesagt, damit ihr, wenn deren Stunde kommt, euch an meine Worte erinnert. Das habe ich euch nicht gleich zu Anfang gesagt; denn ich war ja bei euch.	4 But these things I have spoken to you, so that, when the hour for these things will have arrived, you may remember that I told you.
5 Jetzt aber gehe ich zu dem, der mich gesandt hat, und keiner von euch fragt mich: Wohin gehst du?	5 But I did not tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you. And now I am going to him who sent me. And no one among you has asked me, ‘Where are you going?’
6 Vielmehr ist euer Herz von Trauer erfüllt, weil ich euch das gesagt habe.	6 But because I have spoken these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.
7 Doch ich sage euch die Wahrheit: Es ist gut für euch, dass ich fortgehe. Denn wenn ich nicht fortgehe, wird der Beistand nicht zu euch kommen; gehe ich aber, so werde ich ihn zu euch senden.	7 But I tell you the truth: it is expedient for you that I am going. For if I do not go, the Advocate will not come to you. But when I will have gone away, I will send him to you.
8 Und wenn er kommt, wird er die Welt überführen (und aufdecken), was Sünde, Gerechtigkeit und Gericht ist;	8 And when he has arrived, he will argue against the world, about sin and about justice and about judgment:
9 Sünde: dass sie nicht an mich glauben;	9 about sin, indeed, because they have not believed in me;
10 Gerechtigkeit: dass ich zum Vater gehe und ihr mich nicht mehr seht;	10 about justice, truly, because I am going to the Father, and you will not see me any longer;
11 Gericht: dass der Herrscher dieser Welt gerichtet ist.	11 about judgment, then, because the prince of this world has already been judged.
12 Noch vieles habe ich euch zu sagen, aber ihr könnt es jetzt nicht tragen.	12 I still have many things to say to you, but you are not able to bear them now.
13 Wenn aber jener kommt, der Geist der Wahrheit, wird er euch in die ganze Wahrheit führen. Denn er wird nicht aus sich selbst heraus reden, sondern er wird sagen, was er hört, und euch verkünden, was kommen wird.	13 But when the Spirit of truth has arrived, he will teach the whole truth to you. For he will not be speaking from himself. Instead, whatever he will hear, he will speak. And he will announce to you the things that are to come.
14 Er wird mich verherrlichen; denn er wird von dem, was mein ist, nehmen und es euch verkünden.	14 He shall glorify me. For he will receive from what is mine, and he will announce it to you.
15 Alles, was der Vater hat, ist mein; darum habe ich gesagt: Er nimmt von dem, was mein ist, und wird es euch verkünden.	15 All things whatsoever that the Father has are mine. For this reason, I said that he will receive from what is mine and that he will announce it to you.
16 Noch kurze Zeit, dann seht ihr mich nicht mehr, und wieder eine kurze Zeit, dann werdet ihr mich sehen.	16 A little while, and then you will not see me. And again a little while, and you will see me. For I am going to the Father.”
17 Da sagten einige von seinen Jüngern zueinander: Was meint er damit, wenn er zu uns sagt: Noch kurze Zeit, dann seht ihr mich nicht mehr, und wieder eine kurze Zeit, dann werdet ihr mich sehen? Und was bedeutet: Ich gehe zum Vater?	17 Then some of his disciples said to one another: “What is this, that he is saying to us: ‘A little while, and you will not see me,’ and ‘Again a little while, and you will see me,’ and, ‘For I am going to the Father?’ ”
18 Sie sagten: Was heißt das: eine kurze Zeit? Wir wissen nicht, wovon er redet.	18 And they said: “What is this, that he is saying, ‘A little while?’ We do not understand what he is saying.”
19 Jesus erkannte, dass sie ihn fragen wollten, und sagte zu ihnen: Ihr macht euch Gedanken darüber, dass ich euch gesagt habe: Noch kurze Zeit, dann seht ihr mich nicht mehr, und wieder eine kurze Zeit, dann werdet ihr mich sehen.	19 But Jesus realized that they wanted to question him, and so he said to them: “Are you inquiring among yourselves about this, that I said: ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me?’
20 Amen, amen, ich sage euch: Ihr werdet weinen und klagen, aber die Welt wird sich freuen; ihr werdet bekümmert sein, aber euer Kummer wird sich in Freude verwandeln.	20 Amen, amen, I say to you, that you shall mourn and weep, but the world will rejoice. And you shall be greatly saddened, yet your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21 Wenn die Frau gebären soll, ist sie bekümmert, weil ihre Stunde da ist; aber wenn sie das Kind geboren hat, denkt sie nicht mehr an ihre Not über der Freude, dass ein Mensch zur Welt gekommen ist.	21 A woman, when she is giving birth, has sorrow, because her hour has arrived. But when she has given birth to the child, then she no longer remembers the difficulties, because of the joy: for a man has been born into the world.
22 So seid auch ihr jetzt bekümmert, aber ich werde euch wiedersehen; dann wird euer Herz sich freuen und niemand nimmt euch eure Freude.	22 Therefore, you also, indeed, have sorrow now. But I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice. And no one will take away your joy from you.
23 An jenem Tag werdet ihr mich nichts mehr fragen. Amen, amen, ich sage euch: Was ihr vom Vater erbitten werdet, das wird er euch in meinem Namen geben.	23 And, in that day, you will not petition me for anything. Amen, amen, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in my name, he will give it to you.
24 Bis jetzt habt ihr noch nichts in meinem Namen erbeten. Bittet und ihr werdet empfangen, damit eure Freude vollkommen ist.	24 Until now, you have not requested anything in my name. Ask, and you shall receive, so that your joy may be full.
25 Dies habe ich in verhüllter Rede zu euch gesagt; es kommt die Stunde, in der ich nicht mehr in verhüllter Rede zu euch spreche, sondern euch offen den Vater verkünden werde.	25 I have spoken these things to you in proverbs. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in proverbs; instead, I will announce to you plainly from the Father.
26 An jenem Tag werdet ihr in meinem Namen bitten und ich sage nicht, dass ich den Vater für euch bitten werde;	26 In that day, you shall ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father for you.
27 denn der Vater selbst liebt euch, weil ihr mich geliebt und weil ihr geglaubt habt, dass ich von Gott ausgegangen bin.	27 For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me, and because you have believed that I went forth from God.
28 Vom Vater bin ich ausgegangen und in die Welt gekommen; ich verlasse die Welt wieder und gehe zum Vater.	28 I went forth from the Father, and I have come into the world. Next I am leaving the world, and I am going to the Father.”
29 Da sagten seine Jünger: Jetzt redest du offen und sprichst nicht mehr in Gleichnissen.	29 His disciples said to him: “Behold, now you are speaking plainly and not reciting a proverb.
30 Jetzt wissen wir, dass du alles weißt und von niemand gefragt zu werden brauchst. Darum glauben wir, dass du von Gott gekommen bist.	30 Now we know that you know all things, and that you have no need for anyone to question you. By this, we believe that you went forth from God.”
31 Jesus erwiderte ihnen: Glaubt ihr jetzt?	31 Jesus answered them: “Do you believe now?
32 Die Stunde kommt und sie ist schon da, in der ihr versprengt werdet, jeder in sein Haus, und mich werdet ihr allein lassen. Aber ich bin nicht allein, denn der Vater ist bei mir.	32 Behold, the hour is coming, and it has now arrived, when you will be scattered, each one on his own, and you will leave me behind, alone. And yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me.
33 Dies habe ich zu euch gesagt, damit ihr in mir Frieden habt. In der Welt seid ihr in Bedrängnis; aber habt Mut: Ich habe die Welt besiegt.	33 These things I have spoken to you, so that you may have peace in me. In the world, you will have difficulties. But have confidence: I have overcome the world.”
