1 Wir, eure Brüder, die Juden aus Jerusalem und aus dem Land Judäa, grüßen euch, unsere Brüder, die Juden, die in Ägypten wohnen, und wünschen euch Frieden.	1 To the brethren the Jews that are I throughout Egypt, the brethren, the Jews that are in Jerusalem, and in the land of Judea, send health, and good peace.
2 Gott möge euch Gutes erweisen und seines Bundes gedenken, den er mit seinen treuen Dienern Abraham, Isaak und Jakob geschlossen hat.	2 May God be gracious to you, and remember his covenant that he made with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, his faithful servants:
3 Er gebe euch allen ein Herz, das euch fähig macht, ihn zu fürchten und seiner Lehre mutig und bereitwillig zu folgen.	3 And give you all a heart to worship him, and to do his will with a great heart, and a willing mind.
4 Er öffne euer Herz für sein Gesetz und für die Gebote und schenke euch Frieden.	4 May he open your heart in his law, and in his commandments, and send you peace.
5 Er erhöre eure Gebete, schenke euch Versöhnung und verlasse euch nicht in der Not.	5 May he hear your prayers, and be reconciled unto you, and never forsake you in the evil time.
6 So beten wir hier für euch.	6 And now here we are praying for you.
7 Unter der Regierung des Demetrius, im Jahr 169, haben wir Juden euch geschrieben: In der höchsten Not, die in diesen Jahren über uns kam, als Jason und sein Anhang vom Heiligen Land und vom Königreich abfielen,	7 When Demetrius reigned, in the year one hundred and sixty-nine, we Jews wrote to you, in the trouble, and violence, that came upon us in those years, after Jason withdrew himself from the holy land, and from the kingdom.
8 verbrannten sie das Tempeltor und vergossen unschuldiges Blut. Wir aber beteten zum Herrn und er hat uns erhört. So konnten wir wieder Brand- und Speiseopfer darbringen; wir zündeten die Leuchter an und legten die Schaubrote aus.	8 They burnt the gate, and shed innocent blood: then we prayed to the Lord, and were heard, and we offered sacrifices, and fine flour, and lighted the lamps, and set forth the leaves.
9 Und nun begeht die Tage des Laubhüttenfestes im Monat Kislew! Geschrieben im Jahr 188.	9 And now celebrate ye the days of Scenopegia in the month of Casleu.
10 Die Bewohner Jerusalems und Judäas, der Hohe Rat und Judas wünschen dem Aristobul, dem Lehrer des Königs Ptolemäus, aus dem Geschlecht der gesalbten Priester, und den Juden Ägyptens Glück und Heil.	10 In the year Bone hundred and eightyeight, the people that is at Jerusalem, and in Judea, and the senate, and Judas, to Aristobolus, the preceptor of king Ptolemee, who is of the stock of the anointed priests, and to the Jews that are in Egypt, health and welfare.
11 Wir danken Gott von Herzen, der uns aus großen Gefahren errettet hat. So sind wir bereit, selbst mit einem König zu streiten.	11 Having been delivered by God out of great dangers, we give him great thanks, forasmuch as we have been in war with such a king.
12 Gott selbst nämlich hat alle verjagt, die gegen die Heilige Stadt gekämpft haben.	12 For he made numbers of men swarm out of Persia that have fought against us, and the holy city.
13 Denn als der Fürst mit seinem Heer, das als unüberwindlich galt, nach Persien zog, fanden sie im Tempel der Nanäa den Tod. Die Priester der Nanäa hatten sie nämlich überlistet.	13 For when the leader himself was in Persia, and with him a very great army, he fell in the temple of Nanea, being deceived by the counsel of the priests of Nanea.
14 Unter dem Vorwand, sich mit der Göttin zu vermählen, war Antiochus mit seinen Freunden, die ihn begleiteten, zum Tempel gekommen; sozusagen als Mitgift wollte er sich dabei die großen Reichtümer aneignen.	14 For Antiochus, with his friends, came to the place as though he would marry her, and that he might receive great sums of money under the title of a dowry.
15 Die Priester der Nanäa legten die Schätze für sie auch bereit und Antiochus ging mit einigen wenigen Männern in den heiligen Bezirk. Sobald er aber das Heiligtum betreten hatte, schlossen sie das Tor.	15 And when the priests of Nanea had set it forth, and he with a small company had entered into the compass of the temple, they shut the temple,
16 Sie öffneten eine geheime Tür an der Decke, warfen schwere Steine herab, zerschmetterten den Fürsten (und seine Begleiter), zerstückelten sie, schnitten ihnen die Köpfe ab und warfen sie hinaus zu denen, die draußen stehen geblieben waren.	16 When Antiochus was came in: and opening a secret entrance of the temple, they cast stones and slew the leader, and them that were with him, and hewed them in pieces, and cutting off their heads they threw them forth.
17 Für all das sei unser Gott gepriesen: Er hat die Sünder dem Untergang preisgegeben.	17 Blessed be God in all things, who hath delivered up the wicked.
18 Wir wollen nun am fünfundzwanzigsten Kislew die Reinigung des Tempels feiern. Darum hielten wir es für unsere Pflicht, euch davon zu benachrichtigen, damit auch ihr sie wie die Tage des Laubhüttenfestes feiern könnt und wie die Tage des Feuers. (Letztere erinnern an den Tag,) an dem Nehemia nach dem Aufbau von Tempel und Altar erstmals wieder Opfer darbrachte.	18 Therefore whereas we purpose to keep the purification of the temple on the five and twentieth day of the month of Casleu, we thought it necessary to signify it to you: that you also may keep the day of Scenopegia, and the day of the fire, that was given when Nehemias offered sacrifice, after the temple and the altar was built.
19 Denn als unsere Väter nach Persien in die Verbannung geführt wurden, nahmen die Priester, die fromm geblieben waren, etwas von dem Feuer des Altars mit und verbargen es heimlich im Schacht eines leeren Brunnens. Sie versteckten es so, dass die Stelle allen unbekannt blieb.	19 For when our fathers were led in Persia, the priests that then were worshippers of God took privately the fire from the altar, and hid it in a valley where there was a deep pit without water, and there they kept it safe,
20 Darüber vergingen viele Jahre. Doch als es Gott gefiel, sandte der König von Persien den Nehemia her. Der schickte die Nachkommen jener Priester aus, um das Feuer holen zu lassen, das ihre Väter einst versteckt hatten.	20 But when many years had passed, and it pleased God that Nehemias should be sent by the king of Persia, he sent some of the posterity of those priests that had hid it, to seek for the fire: and as they told us, they found no fire, but thick water.
21 Als sie uns erklärten, kein Feuer gefunden zu haben, sondern nur eine dicke Flüssigkeit, befahl er ihnen, etwas davon zu schöpfen und zu ihm zu bringen. Das Opfer wurde hergerichtet. Dann ließ Nehemia von den Priestern das Brennholz, und was darauf lag, mit diesem zähflüssigen Wasser begießen.	21 Then he bade them draw it up, and bring it to him: and the priest Nehemias commanded the sacrifices that were laid on, to be sprinkled with the same water, both the wood, and the things that were laid upon it.
22 So geschah es. Nach einiger Zeit brach die Sonne hervor, die von Wolken verdeckt gewesen war. Da flammte ein großes Feuer auf und alle staunten.	22 And when this was done, and the time came that the sun shone out, which before was in a cloud, there was a great fire kindled, so that all wondered.
23 Während das Opfer verbrannte, beteten die Priester und alle Anderen, die bei ihnen waren; Jonatan stimmte an und die Übrigen, darunter auch Nehemia, beteten laut mit.	23 And all the priests made prayer, while the sacrifice was consuming, Jonathan beginning, and the rest answering.
24 Das Gebet aber lautete so: Herr, o Herr, du Gott und Schöpfer aller Dinge, furchtbarer, starker, gerechter und barmherziger Gott! Du allein bist König und du bist gütig.	24 And the prayer of Nehemias was after this manner: 0 Lord God, Creator of all things, dreadful and strong, just and merciful, who alone art the goad king,
25 Du allein gibst alle Gaben. Nur du bist gerecht, allmächtig und ewig. Du rettest Israel aus aller Not. Du hast unsere Väter erwählt und sie heilig gemacht.	25 Who alone art gracious, who alone art just, and almighty, and eternal, who deliverest Israel from all evil, who didst choose the fathers and didst sanctify them :
26 Nimm dieses Opfer an für dein ganzes Volk Israel! Behüte dein Erbteil und mach es heilig!	26 Receive the sacrifice for all thy people Israel, and preserve thy own portion, and sanctify it.
27 Sammle uns aus der Zerstreuung, befrei alle, die bei den Heiden in Knechtschaft leben, schau auf die Verachteten und Verabscheuten! Dadurch sollen die Heiden erkennen, dass du unser Gott bist.	27 Gather together our scattered people, deliver them that are slaves to the Gentiles, and look upon them that are despised and abhorred: that the Gentiles may know that thou art our God.
28 Strafe die stolzen und frechen Unterdrücker!	28 Punish them that oppress us, and that treat us injuriously with pride.
29 Pflanz dein Volk an deinem heiligen Ort ein! Denn so hat es Mose zugesagt.	29 Establish thy people in thy holy place, as Moses hath spoken.
30 Die Priester begleiteten die Loblieder, die man sang, mit Musik.	30 And the priests sung hymns till the sacrifice was consumed.
31 Als das Opfer verbrannt war, ließ Nehemia das übrig gebliebene Wasser auf große Steine schütten.	31 And when the sacrifice was consumed, Nehemias commanded the water that was left to be poured out upon the great stones.
32 Da entzündete sich eine lodernde Flamme. Sie verzehrte sich im Schein des Feuers, das vom Altar her leuchtete.	32 Which being done, there -was kindled a dame from them: but it was consumed by the light that shined from the altar.
33 Dieses Ereignis wurde überall bekannt und man meldete dem persischen König, an der Stelle, an der die Priester, die in die Verbannung gingen, das Feuer versteckt hätten, sei das Wasser zum Vorschein gekommen, das die Leute des Nehemia dann über das Opfer gossen.	33 And when this matter became public, it was told to the king of Persia, that in the place where the priests that were led away, had hid the fire, there appeared water, with which Nehemias and they that were with him had purified the sacrifices.
34 Nachdem der König die Sache geprüft hatte, ließ er den Ort umfrieden und für heilig erklären.	34 And the king considering, and diligently examining the matter, made a temple for it, that he might prove what had happened.
35 Auch nahm der König viele kostbare Geschenke und verteilte sie unter die, denen er wohlgesinnt war.	35 And when he had proved it, he gave the priests many goods, and divers presents, and he took end distributed them to them with his own hand.
36 Die Leute um Nehemia nannten das Wasser Neftar, das heißt: Reinigung. Bei den meisten aber heißt es Neftai.	36 And Nehemias called this place Nephthar, which is interpreted purification. But many call it Nephi.
