1 Manasse war zwölf Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und regierte fünfundfünfzig Jahre in Jerusalem.	1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for fifty-five years in Jerusalem.
2 Er tat, was dem Herrn missfiel, und ahmte die Gräuel der Völker nach, die der Herr vor den Augen der Israeliten vertrieben hatte.	2 But he did evil before the Lord, in accord with all the abominations of the nations which the Lord overturned before the sons of Israel.
3 Er baute die Kulthöhen wieder auf, die sein Vater Hiskija zerstört hatte, errichtete Altäre für die Baale, ließ Kultpfähle anfertigen, warf sich vor dem ganzen Heer des Himmels nieder und diente ihm.	3 And turning away, he repaired the high places, which had been demolished by his father, Hezekiah. And he constructed altars to the Baals, and made sacred groves. And he adored the entire army of heaven, and he served them.
4 Auch baute er solche Altäre im Haus des Herrn, obwohl der Herr gesagt hatte: In Jerusalem soll mein Name auf ewig bleiben.	4 Also, he built altars in the house of the Lord, about which the Lord had said, “My name shall be in Jerusalem forever.”
5 In den beiden Höfen des Tempels baute er Altäre für das ganze Heer des Himmels.	5 But he built these for the entire army of heaven, in the two courts of the house of the Lord.
6 Er ließ im Tal Ben- Hinnom seine Söhne durch das Feuer gehen, trieb Zauberei, Wahrsagerei und andere geheime Künste, bestellte Totenbeschwörer und Zeichendeuter. So tat er vieles, was dem Herrn missfiel und ihn erzürnte.	6 And he caused his sons to pass through fire in the Valley of the son of Hinnom. He observed dreams, followed divinations, served the occult arts, had with him magicians and enchanters, and worked many evils before the Lord, so that he provoked him.
7 Er brachte auch das Götterbild, das er hatte anfertigen lassen, in das Haus Gottes, von dem Gott zu David und dessen Sohn Salomo gesagt hatte: Auf dieses Haus und auf Jerusalem, das ich aus allen Stämmen Israels auserwählt habe, will ich meinen Namen auf ewig legen.	7 Also, he set up a graven image and molten statue in the house of God, about which God said to David, and to his son Solomon: “In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen from all the tribes of Israel, I will place my name forever.
8 Ich werde Israels Fuß nicht mehr außerhalb des Landes ziehen lassen, das ich für eure Väter bestimmt habe, wenn sie nur alles befolgen, was ich ihnen im ganzen Gesetz, in den Geboten und Rechtsvorschriften des Mose befohlen habe.	8 And I will not cause the foot of Israel to be moved from the land which I delivered to their fathers. Yet this is so, only if they will take care to do what I have instructed them, by the hand of Moses, with the entire law and the ceremonies and the judgments.”
9 Doch Manasse verführte Juda und die Einwohner Jerusalems, noch Schlimmeres zu tun als die Völker, die der Herr vor den Augen der Israeliten vernichtet hatte.	9 And so Manasseh seduced Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that they did evil, more so than all the nations which the Lord had overturned before the face of the sons of Israel.
10 Der Herr redete zu Manasse und zu seinem Volk. Doch sie achteten nicht darauf.	10 And the Lord spoke to him and to his people, but they were not willing to pay attention.
11 Da ließ der Herr die Heerführer des Königs von Assur gegen sie anrücken. Sie ergriffen Manasse in seinem Versteck, fesselten ihn mit bronzenen Ketten und führten ihn nach Babel.	11 Therefore, he led over them the leaders of the army of the king of the Assyrians. And they captured Manasseh, and they led him, bound with chains and fetters, to Babylon.
12 Als man ihn so bedrängte, suchte er den Herrn, seinen Gott, zu besänftigen. Er beugte sich tief vor dem Gott seiner Väter	12 And after this, being in great anguish, he prayed to the Lord his God. And he did penance greatly before the God of his fathers.
13 und betete zu ihm. Gott erbarmte sich seiner; er hörte sein Flehen und ließ ihn als König nach Jerusalem zurückkehren. So musste Manasse erfahren, dass der Herr der wahre Gott ist.	13 And he petitioned and begged him intently. And he heeded his prayer, and led him back to Jerusalem, into his kingdom. And Manasseh realized that the Lord himself was God.
14 Danach baute er draußen an der Davidstadt eine Mauer, die im Tal westlich vom Gihon gegen das Fischtor lief, sodass er den Ofel umschloss; er machte sie sehr hoch. Auch bestellte er Kriegsoberste für alle befestigten Städte Judas.	14 After these things, he built a wall outside the City of David, to the west of Gihon, at the steep valley, from the entrance to the fish gate, circling around as far as Ophel. And he raised it up greatly. And he appointed leaders of the army in all the fortified cities of Judah.
15 Sodann entfernte er die fremden Götter und das Götzenbild aus dem Haus des Herrn, auch alle Altäre, die er auf dem Berg des Hauses des Herrn und in Jerusalem errichtet hatte, und warf sie vor die Stadt hinaus.	15 And he took away the foreign gods, and the idol from the house of the Lord, and also the altars which he had made on the mount of the house of the Lord and in Jerusalem. And he cast all these things outside the city.
16 Den Altar des Herrn aber stellte er wieder her, brachte auf ihm Heils- und Dankopfer dar und befahl Juda, dem Herrn, dem Gott Israels, zu dienen.	16 Then he repaired the altar of the Lord, and he immolated upon it victims, and peace offerings, with praise. And he instructed Judah to serve the Lord, the God of Israel.
17 Doch opferte das Volk immer noch auf den Kulthöhen, wenn auch nur dem Herrn, seinem Gott.	17 Yet still the people were immolating on the high places, to the Lord their God.
18 Die übrige Geschichte Manasses, sein Gebet zu seinem Gott und die Worte der Seher, die im Namen des Herrn, des Gottes Israels, zu ihm redeten, sind aufgezeichnet in der Geschichte der Könige von Israel.	18 But the rest of the deeds of Manasseh, and his prayer to his God, and also the words of the seers who were speaking to him in the name of the Lord, the God of Israel, are contained in the words of the kings of Israel.
19 Sein Gebet und dessen Erhörung, alle seine Sünden und treulosen Taten, die Orte, an denen er Kulthöhen errichtete und Kultpfähle und Götzenbilder aufstellte, bevor er sich demütigte, sind aufgezeichnet in der Geschichte seiner Seher.	19 Also, his prayer and its heeding, and all his sins and contempt, and the sites on which he built high places and made sacred groves and statues, before he repented, have been written in the words of Hozai.
20 Manasse entschlief zu seinen Vätern und man begrub ihn im Garten seines Hauses. Sein Sohn Amon wurde König an seiner Stelle.	20 Then Manasseh slept with his fathers, and they buried him in his own house. And his son, Amon, reigned in his place.
21 Amon war zweiundzwanzig Jahre alt, als er König wurde, und regierte zwei Jahre in Jerusalem.	21 Amon was twenty-two years old when he had begun to reign, and he reigned for two years in Jerusalem.
22 Wie sein Vater Manasse tat er, was dem Herrn missfiel; er opferte allen Götzenbildern, die sein Vater Manasse hatte machen lassen, und verehrte sie.	22 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, just as his father Manasseh had done. And he immolated to all the idols that Manasseh had fabricated, and he served them.
23 Doch demütigte er sich nicht vor dem Herrn wie sein Vater Manasse, sondern vermehrte die Schuld.	23 But he did not turn his face to the Lord, as his father Manasseh had turned himself. And he sinned much more grievously.
24 Gegen ihn zettelten seine Diener eine Verschwörung an und töteten ihn in seinem Haus.	24 And when his servants had conspired against him, they killed him in his own house.
25 Doch die Bürger des Landes erschlugen alle, die sich gegen König Amon verschworen hatten, und machten seinen Sohn Joschija zum König an seiner Stelle.	25 But the rest of the multitude of the people, having slain those who had struck down Amon, appointed his son, Josiah, as king in his place.
