1 Salomo, der Sohn Davids, gewann Macht in seinem Königtum, der Herr, sein Gott, war mit ihm und ließ ihn überaus stark werden.	1 Then Solomon, the son of David, was strengthened in his reign, and the Lord his God was with him, and he magnified him on high.
2 Er sprach mit ganz Israel, den Obersten der Tausend- und Hundertschaften, den Richtern, mit allen Fürsten aus ganz Israel und mit den Häuptern der Großfamilien.	2 And Solomon instructed the whole of Israel, the tribunes, and the centurions, and the rulers, and the judges over all of Israel, and the leaders of the families.
3 Dann ging er mit der ganzen Versammlung, die bei ihm war, zur Kulthöhe von Gibeon; denn hier war das Offenbarungszelt Gottes, das Mose, der Knecht des Herrn, in der Wüste angefertigt hatte.	3 And he went away with the entire multitude to the high place of Gibeon, where the tabernacle of the covenant of the Lord was, which Moses, the servant of God, made in the wilderness.
4 Die Lade Gottes jedoch hatte David aus Kirjat-Jearim an den Ort bringen lassen, den er für sie hergerichtet hatte. Er hatte nämlich in Jerusalem ein Zelt für sie aufgestellt.	4 For David had brought the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim, to the place that he had prepared for it, and where he had pitched a tabernacle for it, that is, in Jerusalem.
5 Der bronzene Altar, den Bezalel, der Sohn Uris und Enkel Hurs, gemacht hatte, stand in Gibeon vor der Wohnstätte des Herrn. Ihn suchten Salomo und die ganze Versammlung Israels auf.	5 Also, the altar of brass, which Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had constructed, was there before the tabernacle of the Lord. And so Solomon sought it, with the entire assembly.
6 Salomo stieg dort auf den bronzenen Altar vor dem Herrn beim Offenbarungszelt und brachte auf ihm tausend Brandopfer dar.	6 And Solomon ascended to the bronze altar, before the tabernacle of the covenant of the Lord, and he offered upon it one thousand victims.
7 In jener Nacht erschien Gott dem Salomo und forderte ihn auf: Sprich eine Bitte aus, die ich dir gewähren soll.	7 But behold, during that night God appeared to him, saying, “Request what you wish, so that I may give it to you.”
8 Salomo antwortete Gott: Du hast meinem Vater David große Huld erwiesen und mich an seiner Stelle zum König gemacht.	8 And Solomon said to God: “You have shown great mercy to my father David. And you have appointed me as king in his place.
9 So möge sich nun, mein Herr und Gott, dein Wort an meinen Vater David als wahr erweisen; denn du hast mich zum König gemacht über ein Volk, das zahlreich ist wie der Staub der Erde.	9 Now therefore, O Lord God, let your word be fulfilled, which you promised to my father David. For you have made me king over your great people, who are as innumerable as the dust of the earth.
10 Verleih mir daher Weisheit und Einsicht, damit ich weiß, wie ich mich vor diesem Volk verhalten soll. Denn wer könnte sonst dieses mächtige Volk regieren?	10 Give to me wisdom and understanding, so that I may enter and depart before your people. For who is able worthily to judge this, your people, who are so great?”
11 Gott antwortete Salomo: Weil dir das am Herzen liegt, weil du nicht um Reichtum, Vermögen, Ehre oder um den Tod deiner Feinde, auch nicht um langes Leben gebeten hast, sondern weil du um Weisheit und Einsicht gebeten hast, um mein Volk zu regieren, zu dessen König ich dich bestellt habe,	11 Then God said to Solomon: “Since this is the choice that pleased your heart, and you did not request wealth and substance and glory, nor the lives of those who hate you, nor even many days of life, since instead you requested wisdom and knowledge so that you may be able to judge my people, over whom I have appointed you as king:
12 sollen dir Weisheit und Einsicht zuteil werden. Aber auch Reichtum, Vermögen und Ehre will ich dir geben, wie sie kein König vor dir erlangt hat und auch nach dir keiner haben wird.	12 wisdom and knowledge are granted to you. And I will give to you wealth and substance and glory, so that none of the kings either before you or after you will be similar to you.”
13 Darauf ging Salomo von der Kulthöhe in Gibeon, vom Offenbarungszelt, weg nach Jerusalem und herrschte über Israel.	13 Then Solomon went from the high place of Gibeon to Jerusalem, before the tabernacle of the covenant, and he reigned over Israel.
14 Salomo beschaffte sich Wagen und die Besatzung dazu. Er hatte vierzehnhundert Wagen und zwölftausend Mann als Besatzung und brachte sie in die Wagenstädte sowie in die Umgebung des Königs nach Jerusalem.	14 And he gathered to himself chariots and horsemen. And they brought to him one thousand four hundred chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. And he caused them to be in the cities of the chariots, and with the king in Jerusalem.
15 Der König machte das Silber und das Gold in Jerusalem so häufig wie die Steine und die Zedern so zahlreich wie die Maulbeerfeigenbäume in der Schefela.	15 And the king offered silver and gold in Jerusalem as if they were stones, and cedar trees as if they were sycamores, which grow in the plains in a great multitude.
16 Man bezog die Pferde für Salomo aus Ägypten und Koë. Die Händler des Königs kauften sie in Koë.	16 Then horses were brought to him from Egypt and from Kue, by the negotiators of the king, who went and bought for a price:
17 Einen Wagen brachten sie aus Ägypten für sechshundert und ein Pferd für hundertfünfzig Silberschekel. Ebenso trieb man Handel mit allen hetitischen und aramäischen Königen.	17 a four-horse chariot for six hundred pieces of silver, and a horse for one hundred fifty. A similar offer to purchase was made known among all the kingdoms of the Hittites, and among the kings of Syria.
18 Salomo beschloss, einen Tempel für den Namen des Herrn und eine königliche Residenz für sich zu bauen.
