EINHEITSUBERSETZUNG BIBEL	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Die Prophetenjünger klagten bei Elischa: Der Raum, in dem wir vor dir sitzen, ist zu eng für uns.	1 The brotherhood of prophets said to Elisha, 'Look, the place where we are living with you is too smal forus.
2 Wir wollen an den Jordan gehen und dort soll jeder von uns einen Balken holen, damit wir uns hier einen Raum errichten, in dem wir wohnen können. Er antwortete: Geht!	2 Let us go to the Jordan, then, and each of us cut a beam there, and we will make our living quartersthere.' He replied, 'Go.'
3 Einer aber bat ihn: Erweis uns den Gefallen und geh mit deinen Knechten! Er erwiderte: Ich gehe mit.	3 'Be good enough to go with your servants,' one of them said. 'I wil go,' he replied,
4 Er ging also mit ihnen und sie kamen an den Jordan und fällten Bäume.	4 and went with them. On reaching the Jordan they began cutting down timber.
5 Einem aber fiel beim Fällen seines Stammes die eiserne Klinge des Beils in das Wasser. Er rief laut: Wehe, mein Herr, das Beil ist auch noch geliehen!	5 But, as one of them was felling his beam, the iron axehead fel into the water. 'Alas, my lord,' heexclaimed, 'and it was a borrowed one too!'
6 Der Gottesmann fragte: Wohin ist es gefallen? Er zeigte ihm die Stelle; Elischa schnitt ein Stück Holz ab, warf es dorthin und brachte das Eisen zum Schwimmen.	6 'Where did it fal ?' the man of God asked; and he showed him the spot. Then, cutting a stick, Elisha threw it in at that point and made the iron axehead float.
7 Dann befahl er: Hol es herauf! Der Mann streckte die Hand aus und ergriff es.	7 'Lift it out,' he said; and the man stretched out his hand and took it.
8 Der König von Aram führte Krieg mit Israel. Er verabredete mit seinen Untergebenen, an einer bestimmten Stelle einen Hinterhalt zu legen.	8 The king of Aram was at war with Israel. He conferred with his officers and said, 'You must attack atsuch and such a place.'
9 Aber der Gottesmann ließ dem König von Israel sagen: Hüte dich, an jener Stelle vorbeizugehen; denn die Aramäer liegen dort im Hinterhalt.	9 Elisha, however, sent word to the king of Israel, 'Be on your guard about such and such a place,because the Aramaeans are going to attack it.'
10 Der König von Israel schickte nun Späher an die Stelle, die ihm der Gottesmann genannt und vor der er ihn gewarnt hatte, und nahm sich dort in Acht. Als das nicht nur einmal oder zweimal geschah,	10 The king of Israel accordingly sent men to the place which Elisha had named. And he kept warning theking, and the king stayed on the alert; and this happened more than once or twice.
11 wurde der König von Aram beunruhigt. Er rief seine Untergebenen und fragte sie: Könnt ihr mir nicht angeben, wer von den Unsrigen zum König von Israel hält?	11 The king of Aram grew very much disturbed over this. He summoned his officers, and said, 'Tel mewhich of you is betraying us to the king of Israel.'
12 Da sagte einer von seinen Leuten: Niemand, mein Herr und König, sondern Elischa, der Prophet in Israel, verrät dem König von Israel, was du in deinem Schlafzimmer sprichst.	12 'No one, my lord king,' one of his officers replied. 'It is Elisha, the prophet in Israel. The words you utterin your bedchamber, he reveals to the king of Israel.'
13 Da befahl er: Geht und erkundet, wo er sich aufhält, damit ich ihn festnehmen lasse. Man meldete ihm: Er ist in Dotan.	13 'Go and find out where he is,' the king said, 'so that I can send people to capture him.' Word wasbrought to him, 'He is now in Dothan.'
14 Er schickte also Pferde und Wagen und eine starke Truppe dorthin. Sie erreichten die Stadt in der Nacht und umstellten sie.	14 So he sent horses and chariots there, and a large force; and these, arriving during the night,surrounded the town.
15 Als der Diener des Gottesmannes am nächsten Morgen aufstand und hinaustrat, hatte die Truppe die Stadt mit Pferden und Wagen umstellt. Da sagte der Diener zu seinem Herrn: Wehe, mein Herr, was sollen wir tun?	15 Next day, Elisha got up early and went out; and there surrounding the town was an armed force withhorses and chariots. 'Oh, my lord,' his servant said, 'what are we to do?'
16 Doch dieser sagte: Fürchte dich nicht! Bei uns sind mehr als bei ihnen.	16 'Do not be afraid,' he replied, 'for there are more on our side than on theirs.'
17 Dann betete Elischa: Herr, öffne ihm die Augen, damit er sieht. Und der Herr öffnete dem Diener die Augen: Er sah den Berg rings um Elischa voll von feurigen Pferden und Wagen.	17 And Elisha prayed. 'Yahweh,' he said, 'open his eyes and make him see.' Yahweh opened theservant's eyes, and he saw the mountain covered in fiery horses and chariots surrounding Elisha.
18 Als dann die Aramäer anrückten, betete Elischa zum Herrn und rief: Schlag doch diese Leute mit Verblendung! Und der Herr schlug sie auf das Wort Elischas hin mit Verblendung.	18 As the Aramaeans came down towards him, Elisha prayed to Yahweh, 'I beg you to strike these peoplesun-blind.' And, at Elisha's word, he struck them sun-blind.
19 Daraufhin sagte Elischa zu ihnen: Das ist nicht der richtige Weg und nicht die richtige Stadt. Folgt mir! Ich werde euch zu dem Mann führen, den ihr sucht. Er führte sie aber nach Samaria.	19 Then Elisha said to them, 'This is not the road, nor is this the town. Follow me; I shal lead you to theman you are looking for.' But he led them to Samaria.
20 Als sie dort angekommen waren, betete Elischa: Herr, öffne ihnen die Augen, damit sie sehen. Der Herr öffnete ihnen die Augen und sie sahen, dass sie mitten in Samaria waren.	20 As they entered Samaria, Elisha said, 'Yahweh, open these people's eyes, and let them see.' Yahwehopened their eyes and they saw; they were inside Samaria.
21 Sobald nun der König von Israel sie erblickte, rief er Elischa zu: Soll ich sie totschlagen, mein Vater?	21 When the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, 'Shal I kil them, father?'
22 Doch dieser erwiderte: Töte sie nicht! Erschlägst du denn jene, die du mit deinem Schwert und Bogen gefangen nimmst? Setz ihnen Brot und Wasser vor, damit sie essen und trinken und dann zu ihrem Herrn zurückkehren.	22 'Do not kil them,' he replied. 'Do you kil your own prisoners with sword and bow? Offer them food andwater, so that they can eat and drink, and then let them go back to their master.'
23 Der König gab ihnen reichlich zu essen und zu trinken und entließ sie zu ihrem Herrn. Seitdem kamen keine aramäischen Streifscharen mehr in das Land Israel.	23 So the king provided a great feast for them; and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them off andthey went back to their master. Aramaean raiding parties never invaded the territory of Israel again.
24 Danach sammelte Ben-Hadad, der König von Aram, seine ganze Streitmacht, zog gegen Samaria und belagerte es.	24 It happened after this that Ben-Hadad king of Aram, mustering his whole army, marched on and laidsiege to Samaria.
25 In der eingeschlossenen Stadt entstand eine große Hungersnot, sodass der Kopf eines Esels achtzig Silberschekel kostete und ein Viertelkab Milchsterne fünf Silberschekel.	25 In Samaria there was great famine, and so strict was the siege that the head of a donkey sold foreighty shekels of silver, and one quarter-kab of wild onions for five shekels of silver.
26 Als der König von Israel einmal auf der Mauer vorbeischritt, rief ihm eine Frau zu: Hilf mir, mein Herr und König!	26 Now as the king was passing along the city wal , a woman shouted, 'Help, my lord king!'
27 Er antwortete: Wenn dir der Herr nicht hilft, wie soll ich dir helfen? Soll es etwas von der Tenne oder von der Kelter sein?	27 'If Yahweh does not help you,' he retorted, 'where can I find help for you? From the threshing-floor?From the winepress?'
28 Dann fragte er sie: Was fehlt dir? Sie sagte: Diese Frau hat von mir verlangt: Gib deinen Sohn her, damit wir ihn heute aufessen. Meinen Sohn werden wir dann morgen verzehren.	28 Then the king asked, 'What is the matter?' 'This woman here', she answered, 'said to me, "Give upyour son; we will eat him today, and eat my son tomorrow."
29 So haben wir meinen Sohn gekocht und aufgegessen. Als ich aber am nächsten Tag zu ihr sagte: Gib jetzt deinen Sohn her, damit wir ihn verzehren, hatte sie ihren Sohn versteckt.	29 So we cooked my son and ate him. Next day, I said to her, "Give up your son for us to eat." But shehas hidden her son.'
30 Als der König die Worte der Frau hörte, zerriss er seine Kleider, und da er auf der Mauer entlangging, sah das Volk, dass er ein Bußgewand auf dem bloßen Leib trug.	30 On hearing the woman's words, the king tore his clothes; the king was walking on the wal , and thepeople saw that underneath he was wearing sackcloth next his body.
31 Er rief: Gott soll mir dies und das antun, wenn Elischa, der Sohn Schafats, bis heute Abend seinen Kopf behält.	31 'May God bring unnameable ills on me, and worse il s, too,' he said, 'if the head of Elisha son ofShaphat remains on his shoulders today!'
32 Elischa hielt sich in seinem Haus auf und die Ältesten saßen bei ihm. Der König hatte einen Mann vor sich her gesandt; aber noch vor der Ankunft des Boten sagte Elischa zu den Ältesten: Merkt ihr, dass dieser Sohn eines Mörders (seinen Henker) schickt, der mir den Kopf abschlagen soll? Gebt nun Acht! Wenn der Bote kommt, verschließt die Tür und haltet ihn an der Tür zurück! Sind nicht schon die Schritte seines Herrn hinter ihm zu hören?	32 Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. The king sent a messenger aheadbut, before the man arrived, Elisha had said to the elders, 'Do you see how this son of a murderer has givenorders to cut off my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door; hold the door against him. Isn't thatthe sound of his master's step behind him?'
33 Noch während er mit ihnen redete, kam der König und sagte: Dieses Elend kommt vom Herrn. Was soll ich noch vom Herrn erwarten?	33 He was stil actually speaking, when the king arrived and said, 'This misery plainly comes fromYahweh. Why should I stil trust in Yahweh?'
