1 Damals versammelte Salomo die Ältesten Israels, alle Stammesführer und die Häupter der israelitischen Großfamilien bei sich in Jerusalem, um die Bundeslade des Herrn aus der Stadt Davids, das ist Zion, heraufzuholen.	1 Solomon then summoned the elders of Israel to Jerusalem to bring the ark of the covenant of Yahwehup from the City of David, that is, Zion.
2 Am Fest im Monat Etanim, das ist der siebte Monat, kamen alle Männer Israels bei König Salomo zusammen.	2 Al the men of Israel assembled round King Solomon in the month of Ethanim, at the time of the feast(that is, the seventh month).
3 In Gegenwart aller Ältesten Israels nahmen die Priester die Lade	3 When all the elders of Israel had arrived, the priests took up the ark
4 und brachten sie zugleich mit dem Offenbarungszelt und den heiligen Geräten, die im Zelt waren, hinauf. Die Priester und die Leviten übernahmen den Trägerdienst.	4 and the Tent of Meeting and all the sacred utensils which were in the Tent.
5 König Salomo aber und die ganze Gemeinde Israels, die bei ihm vor der Lade versammelt war, schlachteten Schafe und Rinder, die man wegen ihrer Menge nicht zählen und nicht berechnen konnte.	5 King Solomon and al Israel, present with him before the ark, sacrificed countless, innumerable sheepand oxen.
6 Darauf stellten die Priester die Bundeslade des Herrn an ihren Platz, in die Gotteswohnung des Hauses, in das Allerheiligste, unter die Flügel der Kerubim.	6 The priests brought the ark of the covenant of Yahweh to its place, in the Debir of the Temple, that is, inthe Holy of Holies, under the wings of the winged creatures
7 Denn die Kerubim breiteten ihre Flügel über den Ort, wo die Lade stand, und bedeckten sie und ihre Stangen von oben her.	7 for the winged creatures spread their wings over the place where the ark stood, forming a canopy overthe ark and its shafts.
8 Die Stangen waren so lang, dass man ihre Spitzen im Heiligtum vor der Gotteswohnung sehen konnte; draußen aber waren sie nicht zu sehen. Sie blieben dort bis zum heutigen Tag.	8 These were so long, however, that the ends of the shafts could be seen from the Holy Place in front ofthe Debir, though they could not be seen from outside. They are stil there today.
9 In der Lade befanden sich nur die zwei steinernen Tafeln, die Mose am Horeb hineingelegt hatte, die Tafeln des Bundes, den der Herr mit den Israeliten beim Auszug aus Ägypten geschlossen hatte.	9 There was nothing in the ark except the two stone tablets which Moses had placed in it at Horeb, thetablets of the covenant which Yahweh made with the Israelites when they came out of Egypt.
10 Als dann die Priester aus dem Heiligtum traten, erfüllte die Wolke das Haus des Herrn.	10 Now when the priests came out of the Holy Place, the cloud fil ed the Temple of Yahweh,
11 Sie konnten wegen der Wolke ihren Dienst nicht verrichten; denn die Herrlichkeit des Herrn erfüllte das Haus des Herrn.	11 and because of the cloud the priests could not stay and perform their duties. For the glory of Yahwehfilled the Temple of Yahweh.
12 Damals sagte Salomo: Der Herr hat die Sonne an den Himmel gesetzt; er selbst wollte im Dunkel wohnen.	12 Then Solomon said: Yahweh has chosen to dwel in thick cloud.
13 Ich habe ein fürstliches Haus für dich gebaut, eine Wohnstätte für ewige Zeiten.	13 I have built you a princely dwel ing, a residence for you for ever.
14 Dann wandte sich der König um und segnete die ganze Versammlung Israels. Alle standen	14 The king then turned round and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while the whole assembly ofIsrael stood.
15 und er betete: Gepriesen sei der Herr, der Gott Israels. Seine Hand hat ausgeführt, was sein Mund meinem Vater David verheißen hat, als er sprach:	15 He said, 'Blessed be Yahweh, God of Israel, who has carried out by his hand what he promised withhis mouth to my father David, when he said,
16 Seit dem Tag, da ich mein Volk Israel aus Ägypten führte, habe ich aus keinem der Stämme Israels eine Stadt für den Bau eines Hauses erwählt, um meinen Namen dort wohnen zu lassen. David aber habe ich zum Herrscher über mein Volk Israel erwählt.	16 "From the day I brought my people Israel out of Egypt I chose no city, in any of the tribes of Israel, tohave a temple built where my name should be; but I did choose David to rule my people Israel."
17 Mein Vater David wollte dem Namen des Herrn, des Gottes Israels, ein Haus bauen.	17 My father David had set his heart on building a temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,
18 Doch der Herr sprach zu ihm: Wenn du dir vorgenommen hast, meinem Namen ein Haus zu bauen, hast du einen guten Entschluss gefasst.	18 but Yahweh said to my father David, "You have set your heart on building a temple for my name, andin this you have done wel ;
19 Doch sollst nicht du das Haus bauen; sondern erst dein leiblicher Sohn soll meinem Namen das Haus bauen.	19 and yet, you are not the man to build the temple; but your son, yet to be born to you, wil be the one tobuild the temple for my name."
20 Der Herr hat jetzt sein Versprechen, das er gegeben hat, wahr gemacht: Ich bin an die Stelle meines Vaters David getreten und habe den Thron Israels bestiegen, wie es der Herr zugesagt hatte. Ich habe dem Namen des Herrn, des Gottes Israels, das Haus gebaut	20 Yahweh has kept the promise which he made: I have succeeded my father David and am seated onthe throne of Israel, as Yahweh promised; I have built the temple for the name of Yahweh, God of Israel,
21 und darin einen Raum für die Lade geschaffen. Sie enthält die Tafeln des Bundes, den der Herr mit unseren Vätern geschlossen hat, als er sie aus Ägypten führte.	21 and in it I have made a place for the ark containing the covenant of Yahweh which he made with ourancestors when he brought them out of Egypt.'
22 Dann trat Salomo in Gegenwart der ganzen Versammlung Israels vor den Altar des Herrn, breitete seine Hände zum Himmel aus	22 Then, in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, Solomon stood facing the altar of Yahweh and,stretching out his hands towards heaven,
23 und betete: Herr, Gott Israels, im Himmel oben und auf der Erde unten gibt es keinen Gott, der so wie du Bund und Huld seinen Knechten bewahrt, die mit ungeteiltem Herzen vor ihm leben.	23 said, 'Yahweh, God of Israel, there is no god like you in heaven above or on earth beneath, as loyal tothe covenant and faithful in love to your servants as long as they walk wholeheartedly in your way.
24 Du hast das Versprechen gehalten, das du deinem Knecht, meinem Vater David, gegeben hast. Deine Hand hat heute erfüllt, was dein Mund versprochen hat.	24 You have kept the promise you made to your servant, my father David, as you promised him youwould. Today you have carried it out by your power.
25 Und nun, Herr, Gott Israels, halte auch das andere Versprechen, das du deinem Knecht David, meinem Vater, gegeben hast, als du sagtest: Es soll dir nie an einem Nachkommen fehlen, der vor mir auf dem Thron Israels sitzt, wenn nur deine Söhne darauf achten, ihren Weg so vor mir zu gehen, wie du es getan hast.	25 And now, Yahweh, God of Israel, keep the promise which you made to your servant David when yousaid, "You wil never lack for a man to sit before me on the throne of Israel, provided that your sons are carefulhow they behave, walking before me as you yourself have done."
26 Gott Israels, möge sich jetzt dein Wort, das du deinem Knecht David, meinem Vater, gegeben hast, als wahr erweisen.	26 So now, God of Israel, let the words come true which you spoke to your servant, my father David.
27 Wohnt denn Gott wirklich auf der Erde? Siehe, selbst der Himmel und die Himmel der Himmel fassen dich nicht, wie viel weniger dieses Haus, das ich gebaut habe.	27 Yet wil God real y live with human beings on earth? Why, the heavens, the highest of the heavens,cannot contain you. How much less this temple built by me!
28 Wende dich, Herr, mein Gott, dem Beten und Flehen deines Knechtes zu! Höre auf das Rufen und auf das Gebet, das dein Knecht heute vor dir verrichtet.	28 Even so, listen favourably to the prayer and entreaty of your servant, Yahweh my God; listen to the cryand to the prayer which your servant makes to you today:
29 Halte deine Augen offen über diesem Haus bei Nacht und bei Tag, über der Stätte, von der du gesagt hast, dass dein Name hier wohnen soll. Höre auf das Gebet, das dein Knecht an dieser Stätte verrichtet.	29 day and night may your eyes watch over this temple, over this place of which you have said, "My namewil be there." Listen to the prayer which your servant offers in this place.
30 Achte auf das Flehen deines Knechtes und deines Volkes Israel, wenn sie an dieser Stätte beten. Höre sie im Himmel, dem Ort, wo du wohnst. Höre sie und verzeih!	30 'Listen to the entreaty of your servant and of your people Israel; whenever they pray in this place, listenfrom the place where you reside in heaven; and when you hear, forgive.
31 Wenn sich jemand gegen seinen Nächsten verfehlt und dieser ihm einen Eid abverlangt, den er schwören muss, und er dann kommt und vor deinem Altar in diesem Haus schwört,	31 'If someone has wronged his neighbour and a curse is laid on him to make him swear an oath herebefore your altar in this Temple,
32 so höre du es im Himmel und greif ein! Verschaff deinen Knechten Recht; verurteile den Schuldigen und lass sein Tun auf ihn selbst zurückfallen! Den Schuldlosen aber sprich frei und vergilt ihm, wie es seiner Gerechtigkeit entspricht.	32 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven and do justice between your servants:condemning the guilty one by making him suffer for his conduct, and acquitting the upright by rewarding him ashis uprightness deserves.
33 Wenn dein Volk Israel von einem Feind geschlagen wird, weil es gegen dich gesündigt hat, und dann wieder zu dir umkehrt, deinen Namen preist und in diesem Haus zu dir betet und fleht,	33 'When your people Israel are defeated by the enemy because they have sinned against you, but thenreturn to you and acknowledge your name, and pray and seek your favours in this Temple,
34 so höre du es im Himmel! Vergib deinem Volk Israel seine Sünde; lass sie in das Land zurückkommen, das du ihren Vätern gegeben hast.	34 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven; forgive the sin of your people Israel, and bringthem back to the country which you gave to their ancestors.
35 Wenn der Himmel verschlossen ist und kein Regen fällt, weil sie gegen dich gesündigt haben, und wenn sie dann an diesem Ort beten, deinen Namen preisen und von ihrer Sünde lassen, weil du sie demütigst,	35 'When the heavens are shut and there is no rain because they have sinned against you, if they pray inthis place and praise your name and, having been humbled by you, desist from their sin,
36 so höre du sie im Himmel! Vergib deinen Knechten und deinem Volk Israel ihre Sünden; denn du führst sie den guten Weg, den sie gehen sollen. Spende Regen deinem Land, das du deinem Volk zum Erbbesitz gegeben hast.	36 then listen from the place where you reside in heaven and forgive the sin of your servant and yourpeople Israel -- for you are constantly showing them the good way which they must fol ow -- and send rain onyour country, which you have given to your people as their heritage.
37 Wenn im Land Hungersnot herrscht, wenn Pest ausbricht, wenn Getreidebrand, Rost, Heuschrecken und Ungeziefer auftreten, wenn Feinde sie im eigenen Land bedrängen, wenn irgendeine Plage oder Krankheit sie trifft,	37 'Should there be famine in the country, or pestilence, wind-blast or mildew, locust or caterpil ar; shouldtheir enemy lay siege to one of their gates; should there be any plague or any disease:
38 (so höre du) jedes Gebet und Flehen eines jeden einzelnen und deines ganzen Volkes Israel; denn sie alle kennen die Not ihres Herzens und erheben ihre Hände zu diesem Haus.	38 whatever be the prayer or entreaty of any individual aware of a particular affliction: when that personstretches out the hands towards this Temple,
39 Höre sie dann im Himmel, dem Ort, wo du wohnst, und verzeih! Greif ein, und vergilt jedem, wie es sein Tun verdient. Du kennst ja ihre Herzen; denn du allein kennst die Herzen aller Menschen.	39 then listen from heaven where you reside; forgive and, since you know what is in the heart, deal witheach as their conduct deserves -- for you alone know what is in every human heart-
40 So werden sie dich fürchten, solange sie in dem Land leben, das du unseren Vätern gegeben hast.	40 so that they may reverence you throughout their lives in the country which you gave to our ancestors.
41 Auch Fremde, die nicht zu deinem Volk Israel gehören, werden wegen deines Namens aus fernen Ländern kommen;	41 'Even the foreigner, not belonging to your people Israel but coming from a distant country, attracted byyour name-
42 denn sie werden von deinem großen Namen, deiner starken Hand und deinem hoch erhobenen Arm hören. Sie werden kommen und in diesem Haus beten.	42 for they too wil hear of your name, of your mighty hand and outstretched arm -- if a foreigner comesand prays in this Temple,
43 Höre sie dann im Himmel, dem Ort, wo du wohnst, und tu alles, weswegen der Fremde zu dir ruft. Dann werden alle Völker der Erde deinen Namen erkennen. Sie werden dich fürchten, wie dein Volk Israel dich fürchtet, und erfahren, dass dein Name ausgerufen ist über diesem Haus, das ich gebaut habe.	43 listen from heaven where you reside, and grant al that the foreigner asks of you, so that al the peoplesof the earth may acknowledge your name and, like your people Israel, revere you and know that this Temple,which I have built, bears your name.
44 Wenn dein Volk auf dem Weg, den du es führst, gegen seine Feinde in den Krieg zieht und wenn es dann zu dir betet, zur Stadt hingewendet, die du erwählt hast, und zu dem Haus hin, das ich deinem Namen gebaut habe,	44 'If your people go out to war against the enemy, on whatever missions you send them, and they pray toYahweh, turning towards the city which you have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for yourname,
45 so höre du im Himmel sein Beten und Flehen und verschaff ihm Recht.	45 then listen from heaven to their prayer and their entreaty, and uphold their cause.
46 Wenn sie gegen dich sündigen - es gibt ja niemand, der nicht sündigt - und du ihnen zürnst, sie ihren Bedrängern preisgibst und ihre Feinde sie gefangen fortführen in ein fernes oder nahes Land,	46 'When they sin against you -- for there is no one who does not sin -- and you are angry with them andabandon them to the enemy, and their captors carry them off to a hostile country, be it far away or near,
47 so werden sie im Land ihrer Gefangenschaft in sich gehen. Sie werden im Land ihrer Gefangenschaft umkehren, zu dir flehen und rufen: Wir haben gesündigt, Unrecht getan und gefrevelt.	47 if they come to their senses in the country to which they have been taken as captives and repent andentreat you in the country of their captors, saying, "We have sinned, we have acted perversely and wickedly,"
48 Mit ganzem Herzen und ganzer Seele werden sie im Land ihrer Feinde, von denen sie als Gefangene weggeführt wurden, zu dir umkehren und zu dir beten, zum Land hingewendet, das du ihren Vätern gegeben hast, zur Stadt hin, die du erwählt hast, und zum Haus hin, das ich deinem Namen gebaut habe.	48 and turn back to you with al their heart and soul in the country of the enemies who have taken themcaptive, and pray to you, turning towards the country which you gave to their ancestors, towards the city whichyou have chosen and towards the Temple which I have built for your name,
49 Höre dann im Himmel, dem Ort, wo du wohnst, ihr Beten und Flehen! Verschaff ihnen Recht	49 listen to their prayer and their entreaty from the place where you reside in heaven, uphold their case,
50 und verzeih deinem Volk, was es gegen dich gesündigt hat; verzeih ihm alle Frevel, die es gegen dich begangen hat. Lass sie bei ihren Unterdrückern Mitleid und Erbarmen finden!	50 forgive your people for having sinned against you and for al the crimes against you of which they havebeen guilty, and allow them to arouse the pity of their captors so that these may have pity on them:
51 Sie sind ja dein Volk und dein Eigentum, das du aus dem Schmelzofen, aus Ägypten, herausgeführt hast.	51 for they are your people and your heritage whom you brought out of Egypt, that iron foundry!
52 Halte deine Augen offen für das Flehen deines Knechtes und für das Flehen deines Volkes Israel! Erhöre sie, sooft sie zu dir rufen.	52 'May your eyes be open to the entreaty of your servant and the entreaty of your people Israel, to listento them, whatever they ask of you.
53 Du hast dir Israel unter allen Völkern der Erde als Eigentum ausgewählt, wie du es durch deinen Knecht Mose verkündet hast, als du unsere Väter aus Ägypten geführt hast, Herr und Gott.	53 For you it was who set them apart from al the peoples of the earth to be your heritage, as you declaredthrough your servant Moses when you brought our ancestors out of Egypt, Lord Yahweh.'
54 Als Salomo dieses flehentliche Gebet zum Herrn beendet hatte, erhob er sich auf dem Platz vor dem Altar des Herrn, wo er niedergekniet war und die Hände zum Himmel ausgebreitet hatte.	54 When Solomon had finished offering to Yahweh this whole prayer and entreaty, he rose from where hewas kneeling with hands stretched out towards heaven before the altar of Yahweh,
55 Er trat vor die ganze Versammlung Israels, segnete sie und rief mit lauter Stimme:	55 and stood upright. And in a loud voice he blessed the whole assembly of Israel.
56 Gepriesen sei der Herr, der seinem Volk Israel Ruhe geschenkt hat, wie er es versprochen hat. Von all den herrlichen Verheißungen, die er durch seinen Knecht Mose verkündet hat, ist nicht eine hinfällig geworden.	56 'Blessed be Yahweh,' he said, 'who has granted rest to his people Israel, keeping al his promises. Ofal the promises of good that he made through his servant Moses, not one has failed.
57 Der Herr, unser Gott, sei mit uns, wie er mit unseren Vätern war. Er verlasse uns nicht und verstoße uns nicht.	57 May Yahweh our God be with us, as he was with our ancestors; may he never desert us or cast us off.
58 Er lenke unsere Herzen zu sich hin, damit wir auf seinen Wegen gehen und die Gebote, Befehle und Anordnungen befolgen, die er unseren Vätern gegeben hat.	58 May he turn our hearts towards him so that we may fol ow al his ways and keep the commandmentsand laws and ordinances which he gave to our ancestors.
59 Mögen diese Worte, die ich flehend vor dem Herrn, unserem Gott, gesprochen habe, ihm Tag und Nacht gegenwärtig bleiben. Möge er seinem Knecht und seinem Volk Israel Recht verschaffen, wie es jeder Tag verlangt,	59 May these words of mine, of my entreaty before Yahweh, be present with Yahweh our God day andnight, that he may uphold the cause of his servant and the cause of Israel his people, as each day requires,
60 damit alle Völker der Erde erkennen, dass niemand Gott ist als der Herr allein.	60 so that al the peoples of the earth may come to know that Yahweh is God indeed and that there is noother.
61 Euer Herz aber bleibe ungeteilt beim Herrn, unserem Gott, sodass ihr seinen Gesetzen folgt und auf seine Gebote achtet, wie es heute geschieht.	61 May your hearts be wholly with Yahweh our God, fol owing his laws and keeping his commandmentsas at this present day.'
62 Dann brachten der König und mit ihm ganz Israel vor dem Herrn Opfer dar.	62 The king and al Israel with him offered sacrifice before Yahweh.
63 Zweiundzwanzigtausend Rinder und hundertzwanzigtausend Schafe ließ Salomo als Heilsopfer für den Herrn schlachten. So vollzogen der König und alle Israeliten die Weihe des Hauses des Herrn.	63 Solomon offered a communion sacrifice of twenty-two thousand oxen and a hundred and twentythousand sheep to Yahweh; and thus the king and all the Israelites dedicated the Temple of Yahweh.
64 An jenem Tag weihte der König auch die Mitte des Hofes, der vor dem Haus des Herrn war, als er dort das Brandopfer, das Speiseopfer und die Fettstücke der Heilsopfer darbrachte. Der bronzene Altar, der vor dem (Tempel des) Herrn stand, war nämlich zu klein, um das Brandopfer, das Speiseopfer und die Fettstücke der Heilsopfer fassen zu können.	64 On the same day the king consecrated the middle part of the court in front of the Temple of Yahweh;for that was where he presented the burnt offerings, oblations and fatty parts of the communion sacrifices, since the bronze altar which stood before Yahweh was too smal to hold the burnt offering, oblation and the fatty partsof the communion sacrifice.
65 Salomo feierte damals mit ganz Israel, das von Lebo-Hamat bis zum Grenzbach Ägyptens zu einer großen Versammlung vor dem Herrn, unserem Gott, erschienen war, das (Laubhütten-)Fest sieben Tage lang [und nochmals sieben Tage, zusammen vierzehn Tage].	65 And then Solomon and with him all Israel from the Pass of Hamath to the Torrent of Egypt -- a greatassembly -- celebrated the feast before Yahweh our God for seven days.
66 Am achten Tag entließ er das Volk. Sie priesen den König und gingen zu ihren Zelten, frohen Mutes und voll Freude über all das Gute, das der Herr an seinem Knecht David und seinem Volk Israel getan hatte.(Der Kasten des Gestells) war eineinhalb Ellen hoch. Auch an seiner Öffnung waren Verzierungen. Die Querleisten waren nicht rund, sondern viereckig.	66 On the eighth day he dismissed the people, who bade farewel to the king and went home joyful andhappy of heart over al the goodness which Yahweh had shown to his servant and his people Israel.
