DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
For this cause, I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ, for you Gentiles;1 Because of this, I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ (Jesus) for you Gentiles--
If yet you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me towards you:2 if, as I suppose, you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for your benefit,
How that, according to revelation, the mystery has been made known to me, as I have written above in a few words;3 (namely, that) the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly earlier.
As you reading, may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ,4 When you read this you can understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,
Which in other generations was not known to the sons of men, as it is now revealed to his holy apostles and prophets in the Spirit:5 which was not made known to human beings in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit,
That the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, and of the same body, and co-partners of his promise in Christ Jesus, by the gospel:6 that the Gentiles are coheirs, members of the same body, and copartners in the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
Of which I am made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God, which is given to me according to the operation of his power:7 Of this I became a minister by the gift of God's grace that was granted me in accord with the exercise of his power.
To me, the least of all the saints, is given this grace, to preach among the Gentiles, the unsearchable riches of Christ,8 To me, the very least of all the holy ones, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the inscrutable riches of Christ,
And to enlighten all men, that they may see what is the dispensation of the mystery which hath been hidden from eternity in God, who created all things:9 and to bring to light [for all] what is the plan of the mystery hidden from ages past in God who created all things,
That the manifold wisdom of God may be made known to the principalities and powers in heavenly places through the church,10 so that the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known through the church to the principalities and authorities in the heavens.
According to the eternal purpose, which he made, in Christ Jesus our Lord:11 This was according to the eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord,
In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.12 in whom we have boldness of speech and confidence of access through faith in him.
Wherefore I pray you not to faint at my tribulations for you, which is your glory.13 So I ask you not to lose heart over my afflictions for you; this is your glory.
For this cause I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,14 For this reason I kneel before the Father,
Of whom all paternity in heaven and earth is named,15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened by his Spirit with might unto the inward man,16 that he may grant you in accord with the riches of his glory to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner self,
That Christ may dwell by faith in your hearts; that being rooted and founded in charity,17 and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, rooted and grounded in love,
You may be able to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth, and length, and height, and depth:18 may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
To know also the charity of Christ, which surpasseth all knowledge, that you may be filled unto all the fulness of God.19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to him who is able to do all things more abundantly than we desire or understand, according to the power that worketh in us;20 Now to him who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine, by the power at work within us,
To him be glory in the church, and in Christ Jesus unto all generations, world without end. Amen.21 to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
