DOUAI-RHEIMSKING JAMES BIBLE
To thee have I lifted up my eyes, who dwellest in heaven.1 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, now may Israel say;
Behold as the eyes of the servants are on the hands of their masters, As the eyes of the handmaid are on the hands of her mistress: so are our eyes unto the Lord our God, until he have mercy on us.2 If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us:
Have mercy on us, O Lord, have mercy on us: for we are greatly filled with contempt.3 Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us:
For our soul is greatly filled: we are a reproach to the rich, and contempt to the proud.4 Then the waters had overwhelmed us, the stream had gone over our soul:
Then the proud waters had gone over our soul.
Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.
Our help is in the name of the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
