Eliu also proceeded, and said :1 Elihú siguió diciendo:
Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee : for I have yet somewhat to speak in God's behalf.2 «Sé paciente, que acabaré convenciéndote; | que quedan argumentos en favor de Dios.
I will repeat my knowledge from the beginning, and I will prove my Maker just.3 Espigaré mi saber en el pasado, | demostraré que es justo mi Creador.
For indeed my words are without a lie, and perfect knowledge shall be proved to thee.4 Mis palabras no son falsas, desde luego; | ante ti tienes ciencia consumada.
God doth not cast away the mighty, whereas he himself also is mighty.5 Dios es poderoso y no vacila; | poderoso y de firmes decisiones.
But he saveth not the wicked, and he giveth judgment to the poor.6 No permite vivir al malvado, | sino que hace justicia al afligido;
He will not take away his eyes from the just, and he placeth kings on the throne for ever, and they are exalted.7 no aparta sus ojos del justo: | los pone junto a reyes, en sus tronos, | los entroniza y exalta para siempre.
And if they shall be in chains, and be bound with the cords of poverty :8 Pero si él los sujeta con cadenas | y los ata con cuerdas de aflicción,
He shall shew them their works, and their wicked deeds, because they have been violent.9 es para denunciar sus acciones, | sus delitos nacidos del orgullo;
He also shall open their ear, to correct them : and shall speak, that they may return from iniquity.10 les hace escuchar su advertencia, | les emplaza a dejar el pecado.
If they shall hear and observe, they shall accomplish their days in good, and their years in glory.11 Si escuchan y se muestran dóciles, | la prosperidad colmará su vida, | el bienestar acompañará sus años;
But if they hear not, they shall pass by the sword, and shall be consumed in folly.12 si no escuchan, cruzarán el canal; | morirán repletos de ignorancia.
Dissemblers and crafty men prove the wrath of God, neither shall they cry when they are bound.13 Los de corazón impío, | almacenan para sí la ira de Dios, | y no claman cuando él los encadena;
Their soul shall die in a storm, and their life among the effeminate.14 mueren en plena juventud, | su vida termina en la adolescencia.
He shall deliver the poor out of his distress, and shall open his ear in affliction.15 Pero salva al afligido con la aflicción, | lo instruye mediante el sufrimiento.
Therefore he shall set thee at large out of the narrow mouth, and which hath no foundation under it : and the rest of thy table shall be full of fatness.16 Te sacaría de las fauces de la angustia | a un lugar sin aprietos, espacioso, | a una mesa con platos sustanciosos.
Thy cause hath been judged as that of the wicked, cause and judgment thou shalt recover.17 Pero tu pleito es propio de un culpable, | el pleito y el derecho te obsesionan.
Therefore let not anger overcome thee to oppress any man : neither let multitude of gifts turn thee aside.18 No te dejes seducir por la riqueza, | ni un soborno sustancioso te engañe:
Lay down thy greatness without tribulation, and all the mighty of strength.19 nada valdrá ante la angustia | todo el poder de tus riquezas.
Prolong not the night that people may come up for them.20 No suspires porque llegue la noche | en que la gente desaparece de su sitio.
Beware thou turn not aside to iniquity : for this thou hast begun to follow after misery.21 Cuidado con reincidir en la maldad, | que por ella probaste la aflicción».
Behold, God is high in his strength, and none is like him among the lawgivers.22 Dios es sublime y poderoso, | ¿qué maestro se le puede comparar?,
Who can search out his ways? or who can say to him : Thou has wrought iniquity?23 ¿quién podrá determinar su conducta?, | ¿quién puede acusarle de obrar mal?
Remember that thou knowest not his work, concerning which men have sung.24 Acuérdate de ensalzar sus obras, | que todos los hombres cantaron;
All men see him, every one beholdeth afar off.25 todo el mundo las contempla, | los mortales las perciben de lejos.
Behold, God is great, exceeding our knowledge : the number of his years is inestimable.26 Dios es poderoso, incomprensible; | no se pueden contar sus años.
He lifteth up the drops of rain, and poureth out showers like floods :27 Atrae hacia sí las gotas de agua, | las filtra de su fuente como lluvia,
Which flow from the clouds that cover all above.28 la lluvia destilada por las nubes, | que riega a toda la humanidad.
If he will spread out clouds as his tent,29 ¿Quién conoce la extensión de su nube, | o el fragor que retumba en su tienda?
And lighten with his light from above, he shall cover also the ends of the sea.30 El Altísimo despliega su relámpago, | que ilumina las raíces del mar.
For by these he judgeth people, and giveth food to many mortals.31 De este modo alimenta a los pueblos, | les regala sustento en abundancia.
In his hands he hideth the light, and commandeth it to come again.32 Oculta el relámpago en sus manos, | lo dirige directo hacia el blanco.
He sheweth his friend concerning it, that it is his possession, and that he may come up to it.33 El Altísimo habla con su trueno, | su cólera provoca la tormenta.
