3 Yahvé ne veut pas que le juste souffre de la faim, mais il laisse les méchants insatisfaits. | 3 Yahweh does not let the upright go hungry, but he thwarts the greed of the wicked. |
4 La main paresseuse attire la pauvreté; la main diligente enrichit. | 4 A slack hand brings poverty, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth. |
5 L’homme avisé moissonne quand c’est l’été; bien sot celui qui dort à la moisson. | 5 Reaping at harvest-time is the mark of the prudent, sleeping at harvest-time is the sign of theworthless. |
6 Les bénédictions viendront sur la tête du juste, mais les cris des méchants seront étouffés. | 6 Blessings are on the head of the upright, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence. |
7 On bénira la mémoire du juste, mais le nom des méchants tombera en pourriture. | 7 The upright is remembered with blessings, the name of the wicked rots away. |
8 L’homme au cœur sage accepte les conseils, alors que le prétentieux court à sa perte. | 8 The wise of heart takes orders, but a gabbling fool heads for ruin. |
9 Qui marche avec intégrité marche en sécurité, mais qui prend des chemins tortueux sera vite démasqué. | 9 Anyone whose ways are honourable walks secure, but whoever fol ows crooked ways is soonunmasked. |
10 Un clignement d’œil te prépare des ennuis; un reproche rétablira la paix. | 10 A wink of the eye brings trouble, a bold rebuke brings peace. |
11 La bouche de l’homme droit est une source de vie; celle des méchants dissimule la violence. | 11 The mouth of the upright is a life-giving fountain, but the mouth of the godless is a cover for violence. |
12 La haine fait surgir les querelles, l’amour excuse toutes les fautes. | 12 Hatred provokes disputes, but love excuses al offences. |
13 La sagesse se trouve sur les lèvres de l’homme intelligent, on verra le bâton sur le dos de l’insensé. | 13 On the lips of the discerning is found wisdom, on the back of a fool, the stick. |
14 Les sages font des réserves de savoir, la bouche du sot répand le malheur. | 14 Wise people store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool makes ruin imminent. |
15 La fortune du riche lui fait un rempart, la pauvreté de l’indigent fait son malheur. | 15 The wealth of the rich is their stronghold, poverty is the undoing of the weak. |
16 Les travaux de l’homme droit lui procurent la vie; le gain du méchant fera sa ruine. | 16 The wage of the upright affords life, but sin is al the wicked earns. |
17 Respecter l’avertissement, c’est un chemin de vie; qui néglige la réprimande se fourvoie. | 17 Whoever abides by discipline, walks towards life, whoever ignores correction goes astray. |
18 Qui dissimule sa haine est un fourbe, qui fait courir la calomnie est un insensé. | 18 Liars' lips are a cover for hatred, whoever utters slander is a fool. |
19 Qui parle trop n’évitera pas le péché, l’homme sensé surveille ses paroles. | 19 A flood of words is never without fault; whoever controls the lips is wise. |
20 Le juste parle: c’est un argent de choix; les pensées du méchant: elles ne valent rien. | 20 The tongue of the upright is purest silver, the heart of the wicked is of trumpery value. |
21 Beaucoup s’alimentent aux paroles du juste, tandis que les insensés meurent de leur propre sottise. | 21 The lips of the upright nourish many peoples, but fools die for want of sense. |
22 C’est la bénédiction de Yahvé qui enrichit; l’effort de l’homme n’y ajoute rien. | 22 The blessing of Yahweh is what brings riches, to this, hard toil has nothing to add. |
23 L’insensé se plaît à préparer le mal, de même l’homme avisé à cultiver la sagesse. | 23 A fool takes pleasure in doing wrong, the intel igent in cultivating wisdom. |
24 Ce que le méchant redoutait lui arrive; ce que le juste a souhaité lui est accordé. | 24 What the wicked fears overtakes him, what the upright desires comes to him as a present. |
25 Quand la tempête a passé, le méchant a disparu, mais le juste demeure à jamais. | 25 When the storm is over, the wicked is no more, but the upright stands firm for ever. |
26 Du vinaigre sur les dents, de la fumée dans les yeux, voilà bien ce qu’est le paresseux pour son patron. | 26 As vinegar to the teeth, smoke to the eyes, so the sluggard to the one who sends him. |
27 La crainte de Yahvé te prolongera tes jours; les années du méchant seront abrégées. | 27 The fear of Yahweh adds length to life, the years of the wicked wil be cut short. |
28 Après avoir espéré, le juste connaîtra la joie, mais l’attente des méchants sera déçue. | 28 The hope of the upright is joy, the expectations of the wicked come to nothing. |
29 Yahvé a prévu un refuge pour l’homme intègre, et la ruine pour ceux qui font le mal. | 29 The way of Yahweh is a rampart for the honest, for evil-doers nothing but ruin. |
30 Le juste est ébranlé, mais non pour toujours, les méchants par contre n’occuperont pas le pays. | 30 The upright wil never have to give way, but the land wil offer no home for the wicked. |
31 La sagesse sort de la bouche des justes; la langue menteuse sera arrachée. | 31 The mouth of the upright utters wisdom, the tongue that deceives wil be cut off. |
32 La bonté se loge sur les lèvres du juste, et la corruption dans la bouche des méchants. | 32 The lips of the upright know about kindness, the mouth of the wicked about deceit. |
