1 In pietra di loto è lapidato il pigro; e tutti favellaranno sopra il disprezzo di colui.	1 The lazy man is pelted with a dirty stone, and all will speak about his rejection.
2 Dello sterco de' buoi lapidato è il pigro; e chiunque lo toccherae, si scoterà le mani.	2 The lazy man is pelted with the dung of oxen, and all who touch him will brush off their hands.
3 La confusione del padre si è il figliuolo pazzo; ma la figlia stolta sarà in isbandimento.	3 An undisciplined son is the shame of his father, but an undisciplined daughter will be to his degradation.
4 La figlia savia sarà un ereditaggio al marito suo; però che quella che confonde, si fa in contumelia al padre.	4 A prudent daughter brings an inheritance to her husband. But she who causes shame will be a disgrace to him who conceived her.
5 Confonde il padre e il marito l'ardita, e dai malvagi non sarà spartita; ma dall' uno e dall' altro sarà vituperata.	5 She who is bold shames her father and her husband, and she will not be less offensive to the impious. For she will be held in dishonor by both.
6 Lo importuno parlare è sì come la musica nel pianto; le battiture e la dottrina sì sono in ogni tempo sapienza.	6 An untimely explanation is like music in a time of mourning. But the sharp correction and doctrine of wisdom are ever timely.
7 Colui che ammaestrarà il pazzo, fa come colui che ricoglie il testo rotto.	7 Whoever teaches the foolish is like someone who glues together a broken pot.
8 Colui che favella a colui che non ode, fa come colui che isveglia del grave sonno colui che dorme.	8 Whoever explains a word to one who is not listening is like someone who suddenly awakens a sleeping person from a deep sleep.
9 Con uno dormitore favella chi parla allo stolto [la sapienza]; il quale in fine della narrazione dirae: chi è costui?	9 Whoever explains wisdom to the senseless is like one speaking to a sleeping person. And at the end of the explanation, he says: “Who is this?”
10 Piagni sopra il morto, però che la luce sua è mancata; e sopra il pazzo piagni, però ch' egli mancoe nel senno.	10 Weep over the dead, for his light has failed. And weep over the foolish, for his understanding has failed.
11 Piagni poco sopra il morto, però ch' egli si riposoe.	11 Weep only a little over the dead, for he is at rest.
12 La vita del reissimo è più reissima oltre la vita del pazzo.	12 But the wicked life of a wicked fool is worse than death.
13 Il pianto del morto sia sette dì; del pazzo e del reo, tutti i dì della vita loro è da piagnere.	13 The mourning for the dead is seven days; but for the foolish and the impious, it is all the days of their life.
14 Non parlare molto col pazzo, e col disensato non andare.	14 You should not talk at length with the foolish, and you should not go with the senseless.
15 Astienti da lui, acciò che tu non abbi gravezza; e non ti sozzerai del peccato di colui.	15 Keep yourself from him, so that you may not have problems, and so that you will not be polluted by his sin.
16 Schìfati da lui, e troverai requie, e non cadrai nella sua stoltizia.	16 Turn away from him, and you will find rest, and you will not be discouraged by his foolishness.
17 Quale cosa si graverà sopra il piombo? e che è a colui altro nome, che pazzo?	17 What is heavier than lead? And what else can he be called but foolish?
18 Più agevole è a portare rena e sale o masse di ferro, che l'uomo sciocco e pazzo e malvagio.	18 Sand, and salt, and an iron weight are each easier to bear than an imprudent man, who is both foolish and impious.
19 Sì come il tavolato del legno, incatenato al fondamento dello edificio, non si dissolve, così il cuore confermato col pensiero del consiglio.	19 A bundle of wood strapped together in the foundation of a building will not be loosened. And similar is the heart that has been strengthened by thoughtful counsel.
20 Il pensiero del savio in nullo tempo incattiverae (nè) per paura.	20 The thoughts of one who is understanding will not be corrupted by fear in any situation.
21 Come la paglia negli alti luoghi, e la calcina trita sanza mistione, posta alla faccia del vento, non staranno ferme;	21 Just as chaff in a high place, or a wall made of mortar without stones set within, will not continue against the face of the wind,
22 così il cuore pauroso nel pensiero dello stolto non resisterae contro allo assalto della paura.	22 so also a timid heart, and the thoughts of the senseless, will not withstand the forcefulness of fear.
23 Come (l' ornato arenoso nel pariete polito così) il cuore timoroso nel pensiero del pazzo in ogni tempo non ha paura, così colui che persevera nelli comandamenti di Dio sempre.	23 Despite a cowardly heart, the thoughts of the foolish will not fear any situation; yet neither will one who continues always in the precepts of God.
24 Colui che si pugne l'occhio, ne fa uscire le lagrime; e colui che si pugne il cuore profera, senno.	24 He who jabs an eye produces tears. And he who jabs the heart produces understanding.
25 Si come colui che getta la pietra nelli uccelli, caccia quelli; così colui che villaneggia l'amico dissolve l' amistade.	25 He who throws a stone at birds will drive them away. So also, he who accuses his friend dissolves the friendship.
26 Verso l'amico se tu traesti fuori il coltello, non ti disperare; però che si puote ritornare allo amico.	26 But if you have drawn a sword against a friend, you should not despair; for there may be a way back.
27 Se elli aprirae la bocca con tristizia, non temere; però che se ne puote rammendare, eccetto la villania e il rimprovero e la superbia e del secreto la revelazione e la piaga fraudolente; in queste cose tutte l'amico fuggirae.	27 If you have opened a harsh mouth against a friend, you should not fear; for there may be a reconciliation. However, if there are accusations, or abuse, or arrogance, or the revealing of secrets, or a wound from deceitfulness, in all these cases, a friend will flee away.
28 La fede possiedi collo amico nella povertade sua, acciò che ti rallegri nel bene suo.	28 Hold to faithfulness with a friend in his poverty, so that you may also rejoice in his prosperity.
29 Nel tempo della sua tribulazione stàlli fedele, acciò che nella sua ereditade tu sia erede con lui.	29 In the time of his tribulation, remain faithful to him, so that you may also be an heir with him in his inheritance.
30 Il vapore è dinanzi dal fuoco della caminata, e il fumo del fuoco va in alto; così vanno innanzi al sangue li rei detti e le villanie e le minaccie.	30 Just as the steam from an oven, or the smoke from a fire, rises up before a flame, so also do curses and insults and threats rise up before bloodshed.
31 Non mi vergogneroe di salutare l'amico, e non mi nasconderoe dalla faccia sua; e se per lui mi verrae male, sì lo sosterroe.	31 I shall not be ashamed to greet a friend, nor shall I hide myself from his face. And if misfortunes befall me because of him, I will endure.
32 Ciascuno che m' intenderae, si guarderà da quello.	32 Anyone who hears of this will be wary around him.
33 Or chi darà alla bocca mia, guardia, e sopra le labbre mie certo sigillo, sì che io non caggia in quelli, e la lingua mia perisca me?	33 Who will provide a keeper for my mouth, and a reliable seal over my lips, so that I may not fall because of them, and so that my tongue does not destroy me?
