1 Аронові сини, Надав і Авігу, взяли кожен свою кадильницю й вклали до них жару та й посипали на нього ладану, і принесли перед Господом вогонь негодящий, якого він їм не заповідав.	1 Aaron's sons Nadab and Abihu each took his censer, put fire in it and incense on the fire, andpresented unauthorised fire before Yahweh, which was not in accordance with his orders.
2 І вийшло з-перед Господа полум’я та й пожерло їх, і вони померли перед Господом.	2 At this a flame leapt out from Yahweh's presence and swal owed them up, and they perished beforeYahweh.
3 Тоді Мойсей сказав Аронові: ось воно те, що заповідав Господь: «На тих, що наближаються до мене, я покажу, що я святий; і перед усім народом покажу я мою славу.» І мовчав Арон.	3 Moses then said to Aaron, 'That is what Yahweh meant when he said: In those who are close to me Ishow my holiness, and before al the people I show my glory.' Aaron remained silent.
4 Тоді Мойсей покликав Мішаела і Елцафана, синів Узієла, Аронового дядька, і сказав їм: «Приступіть і винесіть ваших небожів геть із святині за табір.»	4 Moses summoned Mishael and Elzaphan, sons of Aaron's uncle Uzziel, and said to them, 'Come hereand take your brothers away from the sanctuary, out of the camp.'
5 Вони приступили й винесли їх у їхніх хитонах геть за табір, як повелів Мойсей.	5 They came and carried them away, still in their tunics, out of the camp, as Moses had said.
6 Аронові ж та його синам, Єлеазарові й Ітамарові, сказав Мойсей: «Волосся на голові не запускайте, й одежі вашої не рвіте, щоб не померти вам та щоб не навести гніву на всю громаду. Родичі ваші й увесь дім Ізраїля нехай плачуть за спаленими вогнем, що його запалив Господь.	6 Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, 'Do not disorder your hair or tear your clothes;or you may incur death and his retribution may overtake the whole community. No, it is for the entire House ofIsrael to lament your brothers who have been the victims of Yahweh's fire.
7 Ви ж від входу в намет зборів не відходьте, а то помрете; бо миро Господнього помазання покоїться на вас.» І ті вчинили по Мойсеєвому слову.	7 To avoid incurring death, do not leave the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, for Yahweh's anointing oilis on you.' And they did as Moses said.
8 І промовив Господь до Арона:	8 Yahweh spoke to Aaron and said:
9 «Коли треба буде вам входити в намет зборів, то вина й п’янких напоїв не пийте, ні ти сам, ні сини твої з тобою, бо помрете: установа це віковічна для ваших поколінь,	9 'When you come to the Tent of Meeting, you and your sons with you, to avoid incurring death you maynot drink wine or any other fermented liquor. This is a perpetual law for all your descendants.
10 щоб могти розібрати між святим і несвятим, між чистим і нечистим,	10 And so shal it be also when you separate the sacred from the profane, the unclean from the clean,
11 та щоб навчали ви синів Ізраїля всіх установ, що дав їм Господь через Мойсея.»	11 and when you teach the Israelites any of the decrees that Yahweh has pronounced for them throughMoses.'
12 І Мойсей сказав Аронові й Єлеазарові та Ітамарові, синам його, що зосталися живими: «Возьміте офіру, що залишилася від вогняної жертви Господеві, та й їжте її прісною біля жертовника, бо вона пресвята.	12 Moses said to Aaron and his surviving sons, Eleazar and Ithamar, 'Take the cereal offering left overfrom the food burnt for Yahweh. Eat the unleavened part of it beside the altar, since it is especial y holy.
13 Ви будете їсти її на свя-тому місці, бо це твоє право й право твоїх синів — на вогняні жертви Господеві; так бо заповідано мені.	13 Eat it in the holy place, since it is the portion of the food burnt for Yahweh that is prescribed for youand your sons; this is the order I have received.
14 Ти сам і сини твої й дочки твої з тобою груднину коливальної жертви й лопатку підношеної жертви теж мусите їсти на чистому місці, бо вони дані тобі як твоє право й право твоїх синів на офіри й мирні жертви синів Ізраїля.	14 'You, your sons and daughters with you, wil eat in a clean place the forequarter offered and the thighpresented, for these have been given to you and your children as your due from the Israelites' communionsacrifices.
15 Лопатку підношеної жертви й груднину коливальної жертви принесуть разом із тучними частинами, що мають бути спалені, щоб принести їх коливальну жертву перед Господом, а потім будуть для тебе і твоїх синів із тобою як віковічне право, як заповідав Господь.»	15 The thigh presented and the forequarter offered, once the fat has been burnt, revert to you and yoursons with you, after they have been presented before Yahweh with the gesture of offering, in virtue of aperpetual law as Yahweh has ordered.'
16 Коли ж Мойсей пильно шукав козла, що був у жертву за гріх, виявилось, що його спалили. Тому він розгнівавсь на Єлеазара й Іта-мара, Аронових синів, що зостались, і запитав:	16 Moses then enquired careful y about the goat offered as a sacrifice for sin, and found that they hadburnt it. He was angry with Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron's surviving sons, and said,
17 «Чому ви не з’їли жертви за гріх на святому місці? Таж це річ пресвята! Вона вам дана, щоб усунути провину громади та й спокутувати за неї перед Господом.	17 'Why did you not eat this victim for sin in the holy place, since it is especial y holy and was given toyou to take away the community's guilt, by performing the rite of expiation for them before Yahweh?
18 А що кров її не була внесена всередину до святині, то й треба вам було конче її з’їсти на святому місці, як я наказав.»	18 Since its blood was not taken inside the sanctuary, you should have eaten its meat there, as Iordered you.'
19 І відповів Арон до Мойсея: «Дивись, вони приносили сьогодні свою жертву за гріх та своє всепалення перед Господом, і таке трапилося мені! А коли б я сьогодні їв жертву за гріх, чи гаразд воно було б в очах Господа?»	19 Aaron said to Moses, 'Look, today they offered their sacrifice for sin and their burnt offering beforeYahweh, and these disasters have befal en me. If I had eaten the sin offering today, would this have met withYahweh's approval?'
20 Мойсей вислухав це та й задовольнився.	20 And when Moses heard this, he was satisfied.
