1 Paulo, apóstolo de Jesus Cristo por chamamento e vontade de Deus, e o irmão Sóstenes,	1 Paul, cal ed by the wil of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and Sosthenes, our brother,
2 à igreja de Deus que está em Corinto, aos fiéis santificados em Jesus Cristo, chamados à santidade, juntamente com todos os que, em qualquer lugar que estejam, invocam o nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, Senhor deles e nosso;	2 to the church of God in Corinth, to those who have been consecrated in Christ Jesus and cal ed to beGod's holy people, with al those everywhere who cal on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord as wel asours.
3 a vós, graça e paz da parte de Deus, nosso Pai, e da parte do Senhor Jesus Cristo!	3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
4 Não cesso de agradecer a Deus por vós, pela graça divina que vos foi dada em Jesus Cristo.	4 I am continual y thanking God about you, for the grace of God which you have been given in ChristJesus;
5 Nele fostes ricamente contemplados com todos os dons, com os da palavra e os da ciência,	5 in him you have been richly endowed in every kind of utterance and knowledge;
6 tão solidamente foi confirmado em vós o testemunho de Cristo.	6 so firmly has witness to Christ taken root in you.
7 Assim, enquanto aguardais a manifestação de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, não vos falta dom algum.	7 And so you are not lacking in any gift as you wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed;
8 Ele há de vos confirmar até o fim, para que sejais irrepreensíveis no dia de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo.	8 he will continue to give you strength till the very end, so that you will be irreproachable on the Day ofour Lord Jesus Christ.
9 Fiel é Deus, por quem fostes chamados à comunhão de seu Filho Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor.	9 You can rely on God, who has called you to be partners with his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
10 Rogo-vos, irmãos, em nome de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, que todos estejais em pleno acordo e que não haja entre vós divisões. Vivei em boa harmonia, no mesmo espírito e no mesmo sentimento.	10 Brothers, I urge you, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, not to have factions among yourselves butal to be in agreement in what you profess; so that you are perfectly united in your beliefs and judgements.
11 Pois acerca de vós, irmãos meus, fui informado pelos que são da casa de Cloé, que há contendas entre vós.	11 From what Chloe's people have been telling me about you, brothers, it is clear that there are seriousdifferences among you.
12 Refiro-me ao fato de que entre vós se usa esta linguagem: Eu sou discípulo de Paulo; eu, de Apolo; eu, de Cefas; eu, de Cristo.	12 What I mean is this: every one of you is declaring, 'I belong to Paul,' or 'I belong to Apollos,' or 'Ibelong to Cephas,' or 'I belong to Christ.'
13 Então estaria Cristo dividido? É Paulo quem foi crucificado por vós? É em nome de Paulo que fostes batizados?	13 Has Christ been split up? Was it Paul that was crucified for you, or was it in Paul's name that you werebaptised?
14 Graças a Deus, não batizei nenhum de vós, à exceção de Crispo e Gaio.	14 I am thankful I did not baptise any of you, except Crispus and Gaius,
15 Assim ninguém poderá dizer que fostes batizados em meu nome.	15 so that no one can say that you were baptised in my name.
16 {Aliás, batizei também a família de Estéfanas. Além destes, não me consta ter batizado ninguém mais.}	16 Yes, I did baptise the family of Stephanas, too; but besides these I do not think I baptised anyone.
17 Cristo não me enviou para batizar, mas para pregar o Evangelho; e isso sem recorrer à habilidade da arte oratória, para que não se desvirtue a cruz de Cristo.	17 After al , Christ sent me not to baptise, but to preach the gospel; and not by means of wisdom oflanguage, wise words which would make the cross of Christ pointless.
18 A linguagem da cruz é loucura para os que se perdem, mas, para os que foram salvos, para nós, é uma força divina.	18 The message of the cross is fol y for those who are on the way to ruin, but for those of us who are onthe road to salvation it is the power of God.
19 Está escrito: Destruirei a sabedoria dos sábios, e anularei a prudência dos prudentes {Is 29,14}.	19 As scripture says: I am going to destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing theunderstanding of any who understand.
20 Onde está o sábio? Onde o erudito? Onde o argumentador deste mundo? Acaso não declarou Deus por loucura a sabedoria deste mundo?	20 Where are the philosophers? Where are the experts? And where are the debaters of this age? Do younot see how God has shown up human wisdom as fol y?
21 Já que o mundo, com a sua sabedoria, não reconheceu a Deus na sabedoria divina, aprouve a Deus salvar os que crêem pela loucura de sua mensagem.	21 Since in the wisdom of God the world was unable to recognise God through wisdom, it was God's ownpleasure to save believers through the fol y of the gospel.
22 Os judeus pedem milagres, os gregos reclamam a sabedoria;	22 While the Jews demand miracles and the Greeks look for wisdom,
23 mas nós pregamos Cristo crucificado, escândalo para os judeus e loucura para os pagãos;	23 we are preaching a crucified Christ: to the Jews an obstacle they cannot get over, to the gentilesfoolishness,
24 mas, para os eleitos - quer judeus quer gregos -, força de Deus e sabedoria de Deus.	24 but to those who have been cal ed, whether they are Jews or Greeks, a Christ who is both the powerof God and the wisdom of God.
25 Pois a loucura de Deus é mais sábia do que os homens, e a fraqueza de Deus é mais forte do que os homens.	25 God's fol y is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength.
26 Vede, irmãos, o vosso grupo de eleitos: não há entre vós muitos sábios, humanamente falando, nem muitos poderosos, nem muitos nobres.	26 Consider, brothers, how you were cal ed; not many of you are wise by human standards, not manyinfluential, not many from noble families.
27 O que é estulto no mundo, Deus o escolheu para confundir os sábios; e o que é fraco no mundo, Deus o escolheu para confundir os fortes;	27 No, God chose those who by human standards are fools to shame the wise; he chose those who byhuman standards are weak to shame the strong,
28 e o que é vil e desprezível no mundo, Deus o escolheu, como também aquelas coisas que nada são, para destruir as que são.	28 those who by human standards are common and contemptible -- indeed those who count for nothing-- to reduce to nothing al those that do count for something,
29 Assim, nenhuma criatura se vangloriará diante de Deus.	29 so that no human being might feel boastful before God.
30 É por sua graça que estais em Jesus Cristo, que, da parte de Deus, se tornou para nós sabedoria, justiça, santificação e redenção,	30 It is by him that you exist in Christ Jesus, who for us was made wisdom from God, and saving justiceand holiness and redemption.
31 para que, como está escrito: quem se gloria, glorie-se no Senhor {Jr 9,23}.	31 As scripture says: If anyone wants to boast, let him boast of the Lord.
