SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Ouvi, pois, ó reis, e entendei; aprendei vós que governais o universo!	1 Listen then, kings, and understand; rulers of remotest lands, take warning;
2 Prestai ouvidos, vós que reinais sobre as nações e vos gloriais do número de vossos povos!	2 hear this, you who govern great populations, taking pride in your hosts of subject nations!
3 Porque é do Senhor que recebestes o poder, e é do Altíssimo que tendes o poderio; é ele que examinará vossas obras e sondará vossos pensamentos!	3 For sovereignty is given to you by the Lord and power by the Most High, who will himself probe youracts and scrutinise your intentions.
4 Se, ministros do reino, vós não julgastes eqüitativamente, nem observastes a lei, nem andastes segundo a vontade de Deus,	4 If therefore, as servants of his kingdom, you have not ruled justly nor observed the law, nor fol owed thewil of God,
5 ele se apresentará a vós, terrível, inesperado, porque aqueles que dominam serão rigorosamente julgados.	5 he wil fal on you swiftly and terribly. On the highly placed a ruthless judgement falls;
6 Ao menor, com efeito, a compaixão atrai o perdão, mas os poderosos serão examinados sem piedade.	6 the lowly are pardoned, out of pity, but the mighty wil be mightily tormented.
7 O Senhor de todos não fará exceção para ninguém, e não se deixará impor pela grandeza, porque, pequenos ou grandes, é ele que a todos criou, e de todos cuida igualmente;	7 For the Lord of al does not cower before anyone, he does not stand in awe of greatness, since hehimself has made small and great and provides for al alike;
8 mas para os poderosos o julgamento será severo.	8 but a searching trial awaits those who wield power.
9 É a vós, pois, ó príncipes, que me dirijo, para que aprendais a Sabedoria e não resvaleis,	9 So, monarchs, my words are meant for you, so that you may learn wisdom and not fal into error;
10 porque aqueles que santamente observarem as santas leis serão santificados, e os que as tiverem estudado poderão justificar-se.	10 for those who in holiness observe holy things will be adjudged holy, and, accepting instruction fromthem, wil find their defence in them.
11 Anelai, pois, pelas minhas palavras, reclamai-as ardentemente e sereis instruídos.	11 Set your heart, therefore, on what I have to say, listen with a wil , and you wil be instructed.
12 Resplandescente é a Sabedoria, e sua beleza é inalterável: os que a amam, descobrem-na facilmente.	12 Wisdom is bril iant, she never fades. By those who love her, she is readily seen, by those who seekher, she is readily found.
13 Os que a procuram encontram-na. Ela antecipa-se aos que a desejam.	13 She anticipates those who desire her by making herself known first.
14 Quem, para possuí-la, levanta-se de madrugada, não terá trabalho, porque a encontrará sentada à sua porta.	14 Whoever gets up early to seek her will have no trouble but wil find her sitting at the door.
15 Fazê-la objeto de seus pensamentos é a prudência perfeita, e quem por ela vigia, em breve não terá mais cuidado.	15 Meditating on her is understanding in its perfect form, and anyone keeping awake for her will soon befree from care.
16 Ela mesma vai à procura dos que são dignos dela; ela lhes aparece nos caminhos cheia de benevolência, e vai ao encontro deles em todos os seus pensamentos,	16 For she herself searches everywhere for those who are worthy of her, benevolently appearing to them on their ways, anticipating their every thought.
17 porque, verdadeiramente, desde o começo, seu desejo é instruir, e desejar instruir-se é amá-la.	17 For Wisdom begins with the sincere desire for instruction, care for instruction means loving her,
18 Mas amá-la é obedecer às suas leis, e obedecer às suas leis é a garantia da imortalidade.	18 loving her means keeping her laws, attention to her laws guarantees incorruptibility,
19 Ora, a imortalidade faz habitar junto de Deus;	19 and incorruptibility brings us near to God;
20 assim o desejo da Sabedoria conduz ao Reino!	20 the desire for Wisdom thus leads to sovereignty.
21 Se, pois, cetros e tronos vos agradam, ó vós que governais os povos, honrai a Sabedoria, e reinareis eternamente.	21 If then thrones and sceptres delight you, monarchs of the nations, honour Wisdom, so that you mayreign for ever.
22 Mas eu vou dizer o que é a Sabedoria e como ela nasceu. Não vos esconderei os seus mistérios; mas investigá-la-ei até sua mais remota origem; porei à luz o que dela pode ser conhecido, e não me afastarei da verdade.	22 What Wisdom is and how she was born, I shal now explain; I shal hide no mysteries from you, butshall fol ow her steps from the outset of her origin, setting out what we know of her in ful light, without departingfrom the truth.
23 Não imitarei aquele a quem a inveja consome, porque esse tal não tem nada a ver com a Sabedoria: 24. é no grande número de sábios que se encontra a salvação do mundo, e um rei sensato faz a prosperidade de seu povo.	23 Blighting envy is no companion for me, for envy has nothing in common with Wisdom.
	24 In the greatest number of the wise lies the world's salvation, in a sagacious king the stability of apeople.
25 Deixai-vos, pois, instruir por minhas palavras, e nelas encontrareis grande proveito.	25 Learn, therefore, from my words; the gain will be yours.
