Genesis 13

SAGRADA BIBLIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Abrão voltou do Egito para Negeb com sua mulher e tudo o que lhe pertencia. Lot o acompanhava.	1 From Egypt Abram returned to the Negeb with his wife and al he possessed, and Lot with him.
2 Abrão era muito rico em rebanhos, prata e ouro.	2 Abram was very rich in livestock, silver and gold.
3 Ele foi de acampamento em acampamento de Negeb até Betel, ao lugar onde já uma vez armara sua tenda, entre Betel e Hai,	3 By stages he went from the Negeb to Bethel, where he had first pitched his tent, between Bethel andAi,
4 no lugar onde se encontrava o altar que havia edificado antes. Ali invocou o nome do Senhor.	4 at the place where he had formerly erected the altar. There Abram invoked the name of Yahweh.
5 Lot, que acompanhava Abrão, possuía também ovelhas, bois e tendas,	5 Lot, who was travelling with Abram, had flocks and cattle of his own, and tents too.
6 e a região não lhes bastava para aí se estabelecerem juntos.	6 The land was not sufficient to accommodate them both at once, for they had too many possessions tobe able to live together.
7 Por isso houve uma contenda entre os pastores dos rebanhos de Abrão e os dos rebanhos de Lot. Os cananeus e os ferezeus habitavam então naquela terra.	7 Dispute broke out between the herdsmen of Abram's livestock and those of Lot. (The Canaanites andPerizzites were living in the country at the time.)
8 Abrão disse a Lot: "Rogo-te que não haja discórdia entre mim e ti, nem entre nossos pastores, pois somos irmãos.	8 Accordingly Abram said to Lot, 'We do not want discord between us or between my herdsmen andyours, for we are kinsmen.
9 Eis aí toda a terra diante de ti; separemo-nos. Se fores para a esquerda, eu irei para a direita; se fores para a direita, eu irei para esquerda."	9 Is not the whole land open before you? Go in the opposite direction to me: if you take the left, I shalgo right; if you take the right, I shal go left.'
10 Lot, levantando os olhos, viu que a toda a planície de Jordão era regada de água {o Senhor não tinha ainda destruído Sodoma e Gomorra} como o jardim do Senhor, como a terra do Egito ao lado de Tsoar.	10 Looking round, Lot saw all the Jordan plain, irrigated everywhere -- this was before Yahwehdestroyed Sodom and Gomorrah-like the garden of Yahweh or the land of Egypt, as far as Zoar.
11 Lot escolheu toda a planície do Jordão e foi para o oriente. Foi assim que se separam um do outro.	11 So Lot chose all the Jordan plain for himself and moved off eastwards. Thus they parted company:
12 Abrão fixou-se na terra de Canaã, e Lot nas cidades da planície, onde levantou suas tendas até Sodoma.	12 Abram settled in the land of Canaan; Lot settled among the cities of the plain, pitching his tents onthe outskirts of Sodom.
13 Ora, os habitantes de Sodoma eram perversos, e grandes pecadores diante do Senhor.	13 Now the people of Sodom were vicious and great sinners against Yahweh.
14 O Senhor disse a Abrão depois que Lot o deixou: "Levanta os olhos, e do lugar onde estás, olha para o norte e para o sul, para o oriente e para o ocidente.	14 Yahweh said to Abram after Lot had parted company from him, 'Look al round from where you are,to north and south, to east and west,
15 Toda a terra que vês, eu a darei a ti e aos teus descendentes para sempre.	15 for al the land within sight I shal give to you and your descendants for ever.
16 Tornarei tua posteridade tão numerosa como o pó da terra: se alguém puder contar os grãos do pó da terra, então poderá contar a tua posteridade.	16 I shal make your descendants like the dust on the ground; when people succeed in counting thespecks of dust on the ground, then they wil be able to count your descendants too!
17 Levanta-te, percorre a terra em toda a sua extensão, porque eu te hei de dar."	17 On your feet! Travel the length and breadth of the country, for I mean to give it to you.'
18 Abrão levantou as suas tendas e veio fixar-se no vale dos carvalhos de Mambré, que estão em Hebron; e ali edificou um altar ao Senhor.	18 So Abram moved his tent and went to settle at the Oak of Mamre, at Hebron, and there he built analtar to Yahweh.
