1 Il Signore parlò a Mosè nel deserto del Sinai, nella tenda del convegno, il primo del secondo mese, nel secondo anno dalla loro uscita dalla terra d'Egitto, e disse:	1 Yahweh spoke to Moses, in the desert of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the secondmonth, in the second year after the exodus from Egypt, and said:
2 "Fate il censimento di tutta la comunità dei figli d'Israele, per famiglie e case paterne, contando i nomi di tutti i maschi, secondo le loro teste,	2 'Take a census of the whole community of Israelites by clans and families, taking a count of the namesof al the males, head by head.
3 da vent'anni in su, chiunque può essere schierato nell'esercito in Israele: li passerete in rassegna per schiere, tu e Aronne.	3 You and Aaron wil register al those in Israel, twenty years of age and over, fit to bear arms, companyby company;
4 Sarà con voi un uomo per tribù, un uomo che sia a capo della sua casa paterna.	4 you wil have one man from each tribe, the head of his family, to help you.

8 per Issacar: Natanael, figlio di Suar;	8 For Issachar, Nethanel son of Zuar.
9 per Zabulon: Eliab, figlio di Chelon;	9 For Zebulun, Eliab son of Helon.
10 per i figli di Giuseppe: per Efraim, Elisama, figlio di Ammiud; per Manasse, Gamliel, figlio di Pedasur;	10 Of the sons of Joseph: for Ephraim, Elishama son of Ammihud; for Manasseh, Gamaliel son ofPedahzur.
11 per Beniamino: Abidan, figlio di Ghideoni;	11 For Benjamin, Abidan son of Gideoni.
12 per Dan: Achiezer, figlio di Ammisaddai;	12 For Dan, Ahiezer son of Ammishaddai.
13 per Aser: Paghiel, figlio di Ocran;	13 For Asher, Pagiel son of Ochran.
14 per Gad: Eliasaf, figlio di Deuel;	14 For Gad, Eliasaph son of Reuel.
15 per Neftali: Achira, figlio di Enan.	15 For Naphtali, Ahira son of Enan.'
16 Questi sono i chiamati della comunità, capi delle tribù dei loro padri, alla testa dei gruppi d'Israele".	16 These were men of repute in the community; they were the leaders of their ancestral tribes, the headsof Israel's thousands.
17 Mosè ed Aronne presero quegli uomini che erano stati designati per nome,	17 Moses and Aaron took these men who had been named

The Israelitesestablished their pedigrees by clans and families, and one by one the names of all men of twenty years and overwere recorded.
19 Come il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè, li passarono in rassegna nel deserto del Sinai.	19 As Yahweh had ordered, Moses registered them in the desert of Sinai.
20 I figli di Ruben, primogenito d'Israele, i loro discendenti, per famiglie e case paterne, contando tutti i maschi uno per uno, da vent'anni in su, di chi poteva essere schierato nell'esercito:	20 Once the pedigrees of the descendants of Reuben, Israel's first-born, had been established by clansand families, the names of all the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.
21 i recensiti della tribù di Ruben furono 46.500.	21 The total of these for the tribe of Reuben was forty-six thousand five hundred.
22 I figli di Simeone, i loro discendenti, recensiti per famiglie e case paterne, contando tutti i maschi uno per uno, da vent'anni in su di chi poteva essere schierato nell'esercito:	22 Once the pedigrees of Simeon's descendants had been established by clans and families, the namesof al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.

40 I figli di Aser, i loro discendenti, per famiglie e case paterne, contando i nomi da vent'anni in su di chi poteva essere schierato nell'esercito:	40 Once the pedigrees of Asher's descendants had been established by clans and families, the namesof al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.
41 i recensiti della tribù di Aser furono 41.500.	41 The total of these for the tribe of Asher was forty-one thousand five hundred.
42 I figli di Neftali, i loro discendenti, per famiglie e case paterne, contando i nomi da vent'anni in su di chi poteva essere schierato nell'esercito:	42 Once the pedigrees of Naphtali's descendants had been established by clans and families, thenames of al the males of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were recorded one by one.
43 i recensiti della tribù di Neftali furono 53.400.	43 The total of these for the tribe of Naphtali was fifty-three thousand four hundred.
44 Questi furono i recensiti da Mosè, con Aronne e i dodici capi d'Israele, uno per ogni casa paterna.	44 Such were the men registered by Moses, Aaron and the leaders of Israel, of whom there were twelve,each representing his family.
45 Tutti i figli d'Israele, recensiti per casa paterna, da vent'anni in su, che potevano essere schierati nell'esercito:	45 Al the Israelites of twenty years and over, fit to bear arms, were counted by families.
46 in totale furono 603.550.	46 Altogether, the total came to six hundred and three thousand five hundred and fifty.
47 Ma tra loro non furono recensiti i leviti, secondo la tribù dei loro padri.	47 But the Levites and their tribes were not included in the count.
48 Il Signore aveva detto a Mosè:	48 Yahweh spoke to Moses and said:
49 "Solo la tribù di Levi non passerai in rassegna e non li recensirai tra i figli d'Israele.	49 'Do not, however, take a census of the Levites, or register them with the other Israelites,
50 Ma disponi che i leviti si prendano cura della dimora della testimonianza, di tutti i suoi arredi e di tutto quello che ha: trasporteranno la dimora e tutti i suoi arredi, faranno il servizio e si accamperanno intorno alla dimora.	50 but enrol the Levites to take charge of the Dwel ing where the Testimony is and of al its furnishingsand belongings. They must carry the Dwel ing and al its furnishings; they must look after the Dwel ing and pitchtheir camp round it.
51 Quando la dimora dovrà spostarsi, i leviti la smonteranno, e quando la dimora si accamperà i leviti la erigeranno. Ogni estraneo che si avvicinerà sarà messo a morte.	51 Whenever the Dwelling is moved, the Levites will dismantle it; whenever the Dwel ing stops for thenight, the Levites wil erect it. Any unauthorised person coming near it will be put to death.
52 I figli d'Israele si accamperanno ognuno nel proprio accampamento, ognuno presso la propria insegna, secondo le loro schiere.	52 The Israelites wil pitch their tents, each in their own encampment and by their own standard,company by company,
53 I leviti si accamperanno intorno alla dimora della testimonianza, in modo che non ci sia indignazione contro la comunità dei figli d'Israele. I leviti custodiranno il servizio della dimora della testimonianza".	53 but the Levites wil pitch their tents round the Dwel ing where the Testimony is. In this way Retributionwil be kept from fal ing on the whole community of Israelites, and the Levites wil keep charge of the Dwel ing ofthe Testimony.'
54 I figli d'Israele si conformarono a tutto quello che il Signore aveva ordinato a Mosè, e così fecero.	54 The Israelites did exactly as Yahweh had ordered Moses. They did as he said.
