LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Maskil. Di Asaf. O popolo mio, presta attenzione al mio insegnamento, porgi il tuo orecchio alle parole della mia bocca.	1 [Psalm Of Asaph] My people, listen to my teaching, pay attention to what I say.
2 Voglio aprire la mia bocca per proferire parabole, rievocare gli arcani dei tempi antichi.	2 I will speak to you in poetry, unfold the mysteries of the past.
3 Quello che abbiamo udito e appreso, quello che ci narrarono i nostri padri	3 What we have heard and know, what our ancestors have told us
4 non terremo nascosto ai loro figli, bensì sempre narreremo alla generazione futura le lodi del Signore e la sua potenza e le meraviglie che egli ha compiuto.	4 we shal not conceal from their descendants, but wil tell to a generation stil to come: the praises ofYahweh, his power, the wonderful deeds he has done.
5 Ha stabilito una testimonianza in Giacobbe, ha posto una legge in Israele, con la quale ha comandato ai nostri padri di farle conoscere ai loro figli,	5 He instituted a witness in Jacob, he established a law in Israel, he commanded our ancestors to handit down to their descendants,
6 affinché le apprenda la generazione futura e i figli che nasceranno sorgano a narrarle ai loro figli,	6 that a generation stil to come might know it, children yet to be born. They should be sure to tel theirown children,
7 e pongano in Dio la loro fiducia e non dimentichino le opere divine, ma osservino i suoi precetti,	7 and should put their trust in God, never forgetting God's great deeds, always keeping his commands,
8 e non siano come i loro padri, generazione caparbia e ribelle, il cui cuore non fu costante e il cui spirito non fu fedele a Dio.	8 and not, like their ancestors, be a stubborn and rebel ious generation, a generation weak of purpose,their spirit fickle towards God.
9 I figli di Efraim che tendono e scoccano l'arco, si voltarono indietro nel giorno della battaglia.	9 The archer sons of Ephraim turned tail when the time came for fighting;
10 Non osservarono l'alleanza di Dio, si rifiutarono di camminare nella sua legge.	10 they failed to keep God's covenant, they refused to fol ow his Law;
11 Dimenticarono le sue opere, le meraviglie che aveva loro mostrato.	11 they had forgotten his great deeds, the marvels he had shown them;
12 Davanti ai loro padri egli fece prodigi nel paese d'Egitto, nella campagna di Tanis.	12 he did marvels in the sight of their ancestors in Egypt, in the plains of Tanis.
13 Divise il mare e li fece passare, e le acque ristettero come trattenute da un argine.	13 He split the sea and brought them through, made the waters stand up like a dam;
14 Li guidò con una nube di giorno e tutta la notte con bagliore di fuoco.	14 he led them with a cloud by day, and al the night with the light of a fire;
15 Percosse rupi nel deserto e diede loro da bere come dal grande abisso.	15 he split rocks in the desert, let them drink as though from the limitless depths;
16 Fece scaturire ruscelli dalla roccia, fece scorrere acqua a torrenti.	16 he brought forth streams from a rock, made waters flow down in torrents.
17 Eppure quelli peccarono di nuovo contro di lui ribellandosi contro l'Altissimo nel deserto.	17 But they only sinned against him more than ever, defying the Most High in barren country;
18 Tentarono Dio nel loro cuore chiedendo cibo per le loro brame.	18 they deliberately chal enged God by demanding food to their hearts' content.
19 Mormorarono contro Dio dicendo: "Potrà forse Dio imbandire una mensa nel deserto?".	19 They insulted God by saying, 'Can God make a banquet in the desert?
20 Ecco: percosse una rupe, ne scaturì acqua e strariparono torrenti. "Potrà forse dare anche del pane o procurare carne per il suo popolo?".	20 True, when he struck the rock, waters gushed out and flowed in torrents; but what of bread? Can hegive that, can he provide meat for his people?'
21 Li udì il Signore e ne fu irritato e un fuoco divampò contro Giacobbe e l'ira esplose contro Israele,	21 When he heard them Yahweh vented his anger, fire blazed against Jacob, his anger mountedagainst Israel,
22 poiché non ebbero fede in Dio e non ebbero speranza nella sua salvezza.	22 because they had no faith in God, no trust in his power to save.
23 Tuttavia comandò alle nubi dall'alto e aprì le porte del cielo	23 Even so he gave orders to the skies above, he opened the sluice-gates of heaven;
24 e fece piovere su di loro manna da mangiare, un frumento celeste diede loro.	24 he rained down manna to feed them, he gave them the wheat of heaven;
25 Un pane di forti mangiò ciascuno, una provvigione abbondante inviò per loro.	25 mere mortals ate the bread of the Mighty, he sent them as much food as they could want.
26 Scatenò dal cielo il vento d'oriente, fece soffiare con veemenza il vento del sud;	26 He roused an east wind in the heavens, despatched a south wind by his strength;
27 fece piovere su di essi carne come polvere e come sabbia del mare volatili;	27 he rained down meat on them like dust, birds thick as sand on the seashore,
28 li fece cadere in mezzo al loro accampamento, tutt'intorno alle loro tende.	28 tumbling into the middle of his camp, al around his dwel ing-place.
29 Essi ne mangiarono e rimasero ben sazi, furono soddisfatti nel loro desiderio.	29 They ate as much food as they wanted, he satisfied al their cravings;
30 Non si erano nauseati della loro brama, il loro cibo era ancora nella loro bocca,	30 but their cravings were still upon them, the food was stil in their mouths,
31 e l'ira del Signore piombò su di loro, fece strage fra essi dei più vigorosi e abbatté fra i più scelti d'Israele.	31 when the wrath of God attacked them, slaughtering their strongest men, laying low the flower ofIsrael.
32 Con tutto questo peccarono ancora, non prestarono fede ai suoi prodigi.	32 Despite al this, they went on sinning, they put no faith in his marvels.
33 Allora dissipò come polvere i loro giorni e con terrore improvviso i loro anni.	33 He made their days vanish in mist, their years in sudden ruin.
34 Quando li faceva morire, lo cercavano, si convertivano e si rivolgevano a Dio;	34 Whenever he slaughtered them, they began to seek him, they turned back and looked eagerly forhim,
35 si ricordavano che soltanto Dio era la loro roccia, Dio l'Altissimo, il loro redentore.	35 recalling that God was their rock, God the Most High, their redeemer.
36 Ma essi lo lusingavano con la loro bocca, lo ingannavano con la loro lingua,	36 They tried to hoodwink him with their mouths, their tongues were deceitful towards him;
37 mentre il loro cuore non era sincero con lui e non si mostravano fedeli alla sua alleanza.	37 their hearts were not loyal to him, they were not faithful to his covenant.
38 Ed egli si lasciava impietosire e perdonava la colpa e non li distruggeva. Molte volte tratteneva la sua ira e non suscitava tutto il suo furore;	38 But in his compassion he forgave their guilt instead of kil ing them, time and again repressing hisanger instead of rousing his full wrath,
39 si ricordava che essi erano esseri mortali, un soffio che va e non ritorna.	39 remembering they were creatures of flesh, a breath of wind that passes, never to return.
40 Quante volte nel deserto si ribellarono a Dio, quante volte lo irritarono nella steppa!	40 How often they defied him in the desert! How often they grieved him in the wastelands!
41 Ripetutamente tentarono Dio, esasperarono il Santo d'Israele.	41 Repeatedly they chal enged God, provoking the Holy One of Israel,
42 Non si ricordarono della sua potenza, del giorno in cui li riscattò dall'oppressione,	42 not remembering his hand, the time when he saved them from the oppressor,
43 di lui che fece prodigi in Egitto e portenti nella campagna di Tanis.	43 he who did his signs in Egypt, his miracles in the plains of Tanis,
44 Mutò infatti i loro fiumi in sangue affinché non bevessero dai loro ruscelli.	44 turning their rivers to blood, their streams so that they had nothing to drink.
45 Mandò in mezzo a loro tafani che li divorassero e rane che li molestassero.	45 He sent horseflies to eat them up, and frogs to devastate them,
46 Diede alle locuste i loro raccolti e ai bruchi il frutto delle loro fatiche.	46 consigning their crops to the caterpil ar, the fruit of their hard work to the locust;
47 Distrusse con la grandine i loro vigneti e i loro sicomori con la brina.	47 he kil ed their vines with hail, their sycamore trees with frost,
48 Consegnò alla peste il loro bestiame e alle saette i loro averi.	48 delivering up their cattle to hail, and their flocks to thunderbolts.
49 Scatenò fra essi il furore della sua ira: collera, sdegno e sventura con l'invio di messaggeri di rovina.	49 He loosed against them the ful heat of his anger, fury, rage and destruction, a detachment ofdestroying angels;
50 Lasciò alla sua ira tutto il suo corso, la loro anima non risparmiò dalla morte e diede la loro vita in preda alla peste;	50 he gave free course to his anger. He did not exempt their own selves from death, delivering up theirlives to the plague.
51 e colpì in Egitto ogni primogenito, la primizia del loro vigore nelle tende di Cam.	51 He struck all the first-born in Egypt, the flower of the youth in the tents of Ham.
52 E portò via il suo popolo come un gregge e come una mandria lo condusse nel deserto.	52 He brought out his people like sheep, guiding them like a flock in the desert,
53 Li guidò al sicuro, sì che non avessero paura, mentre i loro nemici li sommerse il mare.	53 leading them safe and unafraid, while the sea engulfed their enemies.
54 Li fece giungere alla sua santa regione, al monte che la sua destra si era acquistato.	54 He brought them to his holy land, the hil -country won by his right hand;
55 Scacciò le genti davanti a loro e distribuì con la sorte l'eredità fra loro e fece abitare nelle loro tende le tribù d'Israele.	55 he dispossessed nations before them, measured out a heritage for each of them, and settled thetribes of Israel in their tents.
56 E ancora lo tentarono, si ribellarono a Dio, l'Altissimo, e non osservarono i suoi precetti.	56 But stil they chal enged the Most High God and defied him, refusing to keep his decrees;
57 Deviarono, si mostrarono infedeli come i loro padri, vennero meno, come un arco che fallisce.	57 as perverse and treacherous as their ancestors, they gave way like a faulty bow,
58 Lo provocarono con le loro alture e con i loro idoli l'ingelosirono.	58 provoking him with their high places, rousing his jealousy with their idols.
59 Dio udì e ne fu irritato e rigettò Israele completamente.	59 God listened and vented his wrath, he totally rejected Israel;
60 Abbandonò il tabernacolo di Silo, la tenda della sua dimora fra gli uomini.	60 he forsook his dwelling in Shiloh, the tent where he used to dwel on the earth.
61 Ridusse in schiavitù il suo vigore, la sua gloria in potere del nemico.	61 He abandoned his power to captivity, his splendour to the enemy's clutches;
62 Consegnò alla spada il suo popolo, si adirò contro la sua eredità.	62 he gave up his people to the sword, he vented his wrath on his own heritage.
63 Divorò il fuoco la sua gioventù e le sue vergini non ne fecero lamento.	63 Fire devoured their young men, their young girls had no wedding-song;
64 I suoi sacerdoti caddero di spada e le sue vedove non ne fecero lutto.	64 their priests fel by the sword and their widows sang no dirge.
65 Ma poi si destò il Signore come da un sonno, come un prode assopito nel vino.	65 The Lord arose as though he had been asleep, like a strong man fighting-mad with wine,
66 E colpì alle spalle i suoi nemici, li ricoprì d'eterna ignominia.	66 he struck his enemies on the rump, and put them to everlasting shame.
67 Ripudiò la tenda di Giuseppe e sulla tribù di Efraim non cadde la sua scelta.	67 Rejecting the tents of Joseph, passing over the tribe of Ephraim,
68 Scelse invece la tribù di Giuda, il monte Sion, l'oggetto del suo amore.	68 he chose the tribe of Judah, his wel -loved mountain of Zion;
69 Costruì il suo santuario come il cielo e come la terra lo rese stabile in eterno.	69 he built his sanctuary like high hil s, like the earth set it firm for ever.
70 Si scelse Davide, suo servo, e lo assunse da ovili di pecore;	70 He chose David to be his servant, took him from the sheepfold,
71 da dietro le pecore allattanti lo chiamò, perché pascesse Giacobbe, suo popolo, e Israele, la sua eredità.	71 took him from tending ewes to pasture his servant Jacob, and Israel his heritage.
72 Egli lo fece pascere secondo l'integrità del suo cuore e fu loro guida con la destrezza delle sue mani.	72 He pastured them with unblemished heart, with a sensitive hand he led them.
