LA SACRA BIBBIA	DOUAI-RHEIMS
1 Maskil. Di Asaf. O popolo mio, presta attenzione al mio insegnamento, porgi il tuo orecchio alle parole della mia bocca.	1 Understanding for Asaph. Attend, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the words of my mouth.
2 Voglio aprire la mia bocca per proferire parabole, rievocare gli arcani dei tempi antichi.	2 I will open my mouth in parables: I will utter propositions from the beginning.
3 Quello che abbiamo udito e appreso, quello che ci narrarono i nostri padri	3 How great things have we heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
4 non terremo nascosto ai loro figli, bensì sempre narreremo alla generazione futura le lodi del Signore e la sua potenza e le meraviglie che egli ha compiuto.	4 They have not been hidden from their children, in another generation. Declaring the praises of the Lord, and his powers, and his wonders which he hath done.
5 Ha stabilito una testimonianza in Giacobbe, ha posto una legge in Israele, con la quale ha comandato ai nostri padri di farle conoscere ai loro figli,	5 And he set up a testimony in Jacob: and made a law in Israel. How great things he commanded our fathers, that they should make the same known to their children:
6 affinché le apprenda la generazione futura e i figli che nasceranno sorgano a narrarle ai loro figli,	6 that another generation might know them. The children that should be born and should rise up, and declare them to their children.
7 e pongano in Dio la loro fiducia e non dimentichino le opere divine, ma osservino i suoi precetti,	7 That they may put their hope in God and may not forget the works of God: and may seek his commandments.
8 e non siano come i loro padri, generazione caparbia e ribelle, il cui cuore non fu costante e il cui spirito non fu fedele a Dio.	8 That they may not become like their fathers, a perverse end exasperating generation. A generation that set not their heart aright: and whose spirit was not faithful to God.
9 I figli di Efraim che tendono e scoccano l'arco, si voltarono indietro nel giorno della battaglia.	9 The sons of Ephraim who bend and shoot with the bow: they have turned back in the day of battle.
10 Non osservarono l'alleanza di Dio, si rifiutarono di camminare nella sua legge.	10 They kept not the covenant of God: and in his law they would not walk.
11 Dimenticarono le sue opere, le meraviglie che aveva loro mostrato.	11 And they forgot his benefits, and his wonders that he had shewn them.
12 Davanti ai loro padri egli fece prodigi nel paese d'Egitto, nella campagna di Tanis.	12 Wonderful things did he do in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Tanis.
13 Divise il mare e li fece passare, e le acque ristettero come trattenute da un argine.	13 He divided the sea and brought them through: and he made the waters to stand as in a vessel.
14 Li guidò con una nube di giorno e tutta la notte con bagliore di fuoco.	14 And he conducted them with a cloud by day: and all the night with a light of
15 Percosse rupi nel deserto e diede loro da bere come dal grande abisso.	15 He struck the rock in the wilderness: and gave them to drink, as out of the great deep.
16 Fece scaturire ruscelli dalla roccia, fece scorrere acqua a torrenti.	16 He brought forth water out of the rock: and made streams run down as rivers.
17 Eppure quelli peccarono di nuovo contro di lui ribellandosi contro l'Altissimo nel deserto.	17 And they added yet more sin against him: they provoked the most High to wrath in the place without water.
18 Tentarono Dio nel loro cuore chiedendo cibo per le loro brame.	18 And they tempted God in their hearts, by asking meat for their desires.
19 Mormorarono contro Dio dicendo: "Potrà forse Dio imbandire una mensa nel deserto?".	19 And they spoke ill of God: they said: Can God furnish a table in the wilderness?
20 Ecco: percosse una rupe, ne scaturì acqua e strariparono torrenti. "Potrà forse dare anche del pane o procurare carne per il suo popolo?".	20 Because he struck the rock, and the waters gushed out, and the streams overflowed. Can he also give bread, or provide a table for his people?
21 Li udì il Signore e ne fu irritato e un fuoco divampò contro Giacobbe e l'ira esplose contro Israele,	21 Therefore the Lord heard, and was angry: and a fire was kindled against Jacob, and wrath came up against Israel.
22 poiché non ebbero fede in Dio e non ebbero speranza nella sua salvezza.	22 Because they believed not in God: and trusted not in his salvation.
23 Tuttavia comandò alle nubi dall'alto e aprì le porte del cielo	23 And he had commanded the clouds from above, and had opened the doors of heaven.
24 e fece piovere su di loro manna da mangiare, un frumento celeste diede loro.	24 And had rained down manna upon them to eat, and had given them the bread of heaven.
25 Un pane di forti mangiò ciascuno, una provvigione abbondante inviò per loro.	25 Man ate the bread of angels: he sent them provisions in abundance.
26 Scatenò dal cielo il vento d'oriente, fece soffiare con veemenza il vento del sud;	26 He removed the south wind from heaven: and by his power brought in the southwest wind.
27 fece piovere su di essi carne come polvere e come sabbia del mare volatili;	27 And he rained upon them flesh as dust: and feathered fowls like as the sand of the sea.
28 li fece cadere in mezzo al loro accampamento, tutt'intorno alle loro tende.	28 And they fell in the midst of their camp, round about their pavilions.
29 Essi ne mangiarono e rimasero ben sazi, furono soddisfatti nel loro desiderio.	29 So they did eat, and were filled exceedingly, and he gave them their desire:
30 Non si erano nauseati della loro brama, il loro cibo era ancora nella loro bocca,	30 they were not defrauded of that which they craved. As yet their meat was in their mouth:
31 e l'ira del Signore piombò su di loro, fece strage fra essi dei più vigorosi e abbatté fra i più scelti d'Israele.	31 and the wrath of God came upon them. And he slew the fat ones amongst them, and brought down the chosen men of Israel.
32 Con tutto questo peccarono ancora, non prestarono fede ai suoi prodigi.	32 In all these things they sinned still: and they believed not for his wondrous works.
33 Allora dissipò come polvere i loro giorni e con terrore improvviso i loro anni.	33 And their days were consumed in vanity, and their years in haste.
34 Quando li faceva morire, lo cercavano, si convertivano e si rivolgevano a Dio;	34 When he slew them, then they sought him: and they returned, and came to him early in the morning.
35 si ricordavano che soltanto Dio era la loro roccia, Dio l'Altissimo, il loro redentore.	35 And they remembered that God was their helper: and the most high God their redeemer.
36 Ma essi lo lusingavano con la loro bocca, lo ingannavano con la loro lingua,	36 And they loved him with their mouth: and with their tongue they lied unto him:
37 mentre il loro cuore non era sincero con lui e non si mostravano fedeli alla sua alleanza.	37 But their heart was not right with him: nor were they counted faithful in his covenant.
38 Ed egli si lasciava impietosire e perdonava la colpa e non li distruggeva. Molte volte tratteneva la sua ira e non suscitava tutto il suo furore;	38 But he is merciful, and will forgive their sins: and will not destroy them. And many a time did he turn away his anger: and did not kindle all his wrath.
39 si ricordava che essi erano esseri mortali, un soffio che va e non ritorna.	39 And he remembered that they are flesh: a wind that goeth and returneth not.
40 Quante volte nel deserto si ribellarono a Dio, quante volte lo irritarono nella steppa!	40 How often did they provoke him in the desert: and move him to wrath in the place without water?
41 Ripetutamente tentarono Dio, esasperarono il Santo d'Israele.	41 And they turned back and tempted God: and grieved the holy one of Israel.
42 Non si ricordarono della sua potenza, del giorno in cui li riscattò dall'oppressione,	42 They remembered not his hand, in the day that he redeemed them from the hand of him that afflicted them:
43 di lui che fece prodigi in Egitto e portenti nella campagna di Tanis.	43 How he wrought his signs in Egypt, and his wonders in the field of Tanis.
44 Mutò infatti i loro fiumi in sangue affinché non bevessero dai loro ruscelli.	44 And he turned their rivers into blood, and their showers that they might, not drink.
45 Mandò in mezzo a loro tafani che li divorassero e rane che li molestassero.	45 He sent amongst them divers sores of flies, which devoured them: and frogs which destroyed them.
46 Diede alle locuste i loro raccolti e ai bruchi il frutto delle loro fatiche.	46 And he gave up their fruits to the blast, and their labours to the locust.
47 Distrusse con la grandine i loro vigneti e i loro sicomori con la brina.	47 And he destroyed their vineyards with hail, and their mulberry trees with hoarfrost.
48 Consegnò alla peste il loro bestiame e alle saette i loro averi.	48 And he gave up their cattle to the hail, and their stock to the fire.
49 Scatenò fra essi il furore della sua ira: collera, sdegno e sventura con l'invio di messaggeri di rovina.	49 And he sent upon them the wrath of his indignation: indignation and wrath and trouble, which he sent by evil angels.
50 Lasciò alla sua ira tutto il suo corso, la loro anima non risparmiò dalla morte e diede la loro vita in preda alla peste;	50 He made a way for a path to his anger: he spared not their souls from death, and their cattle he shut up in death.
51 e colpì in Egitto ogni primogenito, la primizia del loro vigore nelle tende di Cam.	51 And he killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt: the firstfruits of all their labour in the tabernacles of Cham.
52 E portò via il suo popolo come un gregge e come una mandria lo condusse nel deserto.	52 And he took away his own people as sheep: and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
53 Li guidò al sicuro, sì che non avessero paura, mentre i loro nemici li sommerse il mare.	53 And he brought them out in hope, and they feared not: band the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
54 Li fece giungere alla sua santa regione, al monte che la sua destra si era acquistato.	54 And he brought them into the mountain of his sanctuary: the mountain which his right hand had purchased. And he cast out the Gentiles before them: and by lot divided to them their land by a line of distribution.
55 Scacciò le genti davanti a loro e distribuì con la sorte l'eredità fra loro e fece abitare nelle loro tende le tribù d'Israele.	55 And he made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tabernacles.
56 E ancora lo tentarono, si ribellarono a Dio, l'Altissimo, e non osservarono i suoi precetti.	56 Yet they tempted, and provoked the most high God: and they kept not his testimonies.
57 Deviarono, si mostrarono infedeli come i loro padri, vennero meno, come un arco che fallisce.	57 And they turned away, and kept not the covenant: even like their fathers they were turned aside as a crooked bow.
58 Lo provocarono con le loro alture e con i loro idoli l'ingelosirono.	58 They provoked him to anger on their hills: and moved him to jealousy with their graven things.
59 Dio udì e ne fu irritato e rigettò Israele completamente.	59 God heard, and despised them, and he reduced Israel exceedingly as it were to nothing.
60 Abbandonò il tabernacolo di Silo, la tenda della sua dimora fra gli uomini.	60 And he put away the tabernacle of Silo, his tabernacle where he dwelt among men.
61 Ridusse in schiavitù il suo vigore, la sua gloria in potere del nemico.	61 And he delivered their strength into captivity: and their beauty into the hands of the enemy.
62 Consegnò alla spada il suo popolo, si adirò contro la sua eredità.	62 And he shut up his people under the sword: and he despised his inheritance.
63 Divorò il fuoco la sua gioventù e le sue vergini non ne fecero lamento.	63 Fire consumed their young men: and their maidens were not lamented.
64 I suoi sacerdoti caddero di spada e le sue vedove non ne fecero lutto.	64 Their priests fell by the sword: and their widows did not mourn.
65 Ma poi si destò il Signore come da un sonno, come un prode assopito nel vino.	65 And the Lord was awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty man that hath been surfeited with wine.
66 E colpì alle spalle i suoi nemici, li ricoprì d'eterna ignominia.	66 And he smote his enemies on the hinder parts: he put them to an everlasting reproach.
67 Ripudiò la tenda di Giuseppe e sulla tribù di Efraim non cadde la sua scelta.	67 And he rejected the tabernacle of Joseph: and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:
68 Scelse invece la tribù di Giuda, il monte Sion, l'oggetto del suo amore.	68 But he chose the tribe of Juda, mount Sion which he loved.
69 Costruì il suo santuario come il cielo e come la terra lo rese stabile in eterno.	69 And he built his sanctuary as of unicorns, in the land which he founded for ever.
70 Si scelse Davide, suo servo, e lo assunse da ovili di pecore;	70 And he chose his servant David, and took him from the hocks of sheep: he brought him from following the ewes great with young,
71 da dietro le pecore allattanti lo chiamò, perché pascesse Giacobbe, suo popolo, e Israele, la sua eredità.	71 To feed Jacob his servant, and Israel his inheritance.
72 Egli lo fece pascere secondo l'integrità del suo cuore e fu loro guida con la destrezza delle sue mani.	72 And he fed them in the innocence of his heart: and conducted them by the skilfulness of his hands.
