Acts of the Apostles 11

1 Now the Apostles and brothers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the Word of God.	1 Cependant les apôtres et les frères de Judée apprirent que les païens, eux aussi, avaient accueilli laparole de Dieu.
2 Then, when Peter had gone up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision argued against him,	2 Quand donc Pierre monta à Jérusalem, les circoncis le prirent à partie:
3 saying, “Why did you enter to uncircumcised men, and why did you eat with them?”	3 "Pourquoi, lui demandèrent-ils, es-tu entré chez des incirconcis et as-tu mangé avec eux?"
4 And Peter began to explain to them, in an orderly manner, saying:	4 Pierre alors se mit à leur exposer toute l'affaire point par point:
5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and I saw, in an ecstasy of mind, a vision: a certain container descending, like a great linen sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners. And it drew near to me.	5 "J'étais, dit-il, en prière dans la ville de Joppé quand, en extase, j'eus une vision: du ciel un objetdescendait, semblable à une grande nappe qui s'abaissait, tenue aux quatre coins, et elle vint jusqu'à moi.
6 And looking into it, I considered and saw the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the reptiles, and the flying things of the air.	6 Je regardais, ne la quittant pas des yeux, et j'y vis les quadrupèdes de la terre, les bêtes sauvages, lesreptiles ainsi que les oiseaux du ciel.
7 Then I also heard a voice saying to me: ‘Rise up, Peter. Kill and eat.’	7 J'entendis alors une voix me dire: Allons, Pierre, immole et mange'
8 But I said: ‘Never, lord! For what is common or unclean has never entered into my mouth.’	8 Je répondis: Oh non! Seigneur, car rien de souillé ni d'impur n'entra jamais dans ma bouche'
9 Then the voice responded a second time from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed, you shall not call common.’	9 Une seconde fois, la voix reprit du ciel: Ce que Dieu a purifié, toi, ne le dis pas souillé'
10 Now this was done three times. And then everything was taken up again into heaven.	10 Cela se répéta par trois fois, puis tout fut de nouveau retiré dans le ciel.
11 And behold, immediately there were three men standing near the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea.	11 "Juste au même moment, trois hommes se présentèrent devant la maison où nous étions; ilsm'étaient envoyés de Césarée.
12 Then the Spirit told me that I should go with them, doubting nothing. And these six brothers went with me also. And we entered into the house of the man.	12 L'Esprit me dit de les accompagner sans scrupule. Les six frères que voici vinrent également avecmoi et nous entrâmes chez l'homme en question.
13 And he described for us how he had seen an Angel in his house, standing and saying to him: ‘Send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is surnamed Peter.	13 Il nous raconta comment il avait vu un ange se présenter chez lui et lui dire: Envoie quérir à JoppéSimon, surnommé Pierre.
14 And he shall speak to you words, by which you shall be saved with your whole house.’	14 Il te dira des paroles qui t'apporteront le salut, à toi et à toute ta famille'
15 And when I had begun to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, just as upon us also, in the beginning.	15 "Or, à peine avais-je commencé à parler que l'Esprit Saint tomba sur eux, tout comme sur nous audébut.
16 Then I remembered the words of the Lord, just as he himself said: ‘John, indeed, baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’	16 Je me suis alors rappelé cette parole du Seigneur: Jean, disait-il, a baptisé avec de l'eau, mais vous,vous serez baptisés dans l'Esprit Saint.
17 Therefore, if God gave them the same grace, as also to us, who have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I would be able to prohibit God?”	17 Si donc Dieu leur a accordé le même don qu'à nous, pour avoir cru au Seigneur Jésus Christ, quiétais-je, moi, pour faire obstacle à Dieu."
18 Having heard these things, they were silent. And they glorified God, saying: “So has God also given to the Gentiles repentance unto life.”	18 Ces paroles les apaisèrent, et ils glorifièrent Dieu en disant: "Ainsi donc aux païens aussi Dieu adonné la repentance qui conduit à la vie!"
19 And some of them, having been dispersed by the persecution that had occurred under Stephen, traveled around, even to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the Word to no one, except to Jews only.	19 Ceux-là donc qui avaient été dispersés lors de la tribulation survenue à l'occasion d'Etiennepoussèrent jusqu'en Phénicie, à Chypre et à Antioche, mais sans prêcher la parole à d'autres qu'aux Juifs.
20 But some of these men from Cyprus and Cyrene, when they had entered into Antioch, were speaking also to the Greeks, announcing the Lord Jesus.	20 Il y avait toutefois parmi eux quelques Chypriotes et Cyrénéens qui, venus à Antioche, s'adressaientaussi aux Grecs, leur annonçant la Bonne Nouvelle du Seigneur Jésus.
21 And the hand of the Lord was with them. And a great number believed and were converted to the Lord.	21 La main du Seigneur les secondait, et grand fut le nombre de ceux qui embrassèrent la foi et seconvertirent au Seigneur.
22 Now the news came to the ears of the Church at Jerusalem about these things, and they sent Barnabas as far as Antioch.	22 La nouvelle en vint aux oreilles de l'Eglise de Jérusalem, et l'on députa Barnabé à Antioche.
23 And when he had arrived there and had seen the grace of God, he was gladdened. And he exhorted them all to continue in the Lord with a resolute heart.	23 Lorsqu'il arriva et qu'il vit la grâce accordée par Dieu, il s'en réjouit et les encouragea tous àdemeurer, d'un coeur ferme, fidèles au Seigneur;
24 For he was a good man, and he was filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. And a great multitude was added to the Lord.	24 car c'était un homme de bien, rempli de l'Esprit Saint et de foi. Une foule considérable s'adjoignitainsi au Seigneur.
25 Then Barnabas set out for Tarsus, so that he might seek Saul. And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch.	25 Barnabé partit alors chercher Saul à Tarse.
26 And they were conversing there in the Church for an entire year. And they taught such a great multitude, that it was at Antioch that the disciples were first known by the name of Christian.	26 L'ayant trouvé, il l'amena à Antioche. Toute une année durant ils vécurent ensemble dans l'Eglise ety instruisirent une foule considérable. C'est à Antioche que, pour la première fois, les disciples reçurent le nomde "chrétiens."
27 Now in these days, prophets from Jerusalem went over to Antioch.	27 En ces jours-là, des prophètes descendirent de Jérusalem à Antioche.
28 And one of them, named Agabus, rising up, signified through the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine over the entire world, which did happen under Claudius.	28 L'un d'eux nommé Agabus, se leva et, sous l'action de l'Esprit, se mit à annoncer qu'il y aurait unegrande famine dans tout l'univers. C'est celle qui se produisit sous Claude.
29 Then the disciples declared, according to what each one possessed, what they would offer to be sent to the brothers living in Judea.	29 Les disciples décidèrent alors d'envoyer, chacun selon ses moyens, des secours aux frères de Judée;
30 And so they did, sending it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.	30 ce qu'ils firent, en les envoyant aux anciens par l'entremise de Barnabé et de Saul.
