Acts of the Apostles 11

1 Now the Apostles and brothers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the Word of God.	1 Los apóstoles y los hermanos que había por Judea oyeron que también los gentiles habían aceptado la Palabra de Dios;
2 Then, when Peter had gone up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision argued against him,	2 así que cuando Pedro subió a Jerusalén, los de la circuncisión se lo reprochaban,
3 saying, “Why did you enter to uncircumcised men, and why did you eat with them?”	3 diciéndole: «Has entrado en casa de incircuncisos y has comido con ellos».
4 And Peter began to explain to them, in an orderly manner, saying:	4 Pedro entonces se puso a explicarles punto por punto diciendo:
5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and I saw, in an ecstasy of mind, a vision: a certain container descending, like a great linen sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners. And it drew near to me.	5 «Estaba yo en oración en la ciudad de Joppe y en éxtasis vi una visión: una cosa así como un lienzo, atado por las cuatro puntas, que bajaba del cielo y llegó hasta mí.
6 And looking into it, I considered and saw the four-footed beasts of the earth, and the wild beasts, and the reptiles, and the flying things of the air.	6 Lo miré atentamente y vi en él los cuadrúpedos de la tierra, las bestias, los reptiles, y las aves del cielo.
7 Then I also heard a voice saying to me: ‘Rise up, Peter. Kill and eat.’	7 Oí también una voz que me decía: “Pedro, levántate, sacrifica y come.”
8 But I said: ‘Never, lord! For what is common or unclean has never entered into my mouth.’	8 Y respondí: “De ninguna manera, Señor; pues jamás entró en mi boca nada profano ni impuro.”
9 Then the voice responded a second time from heaven, ‘What God has cleansed, you shall not call common.’	9 Me dijo por segunda vez la voz venida del cielo: “Lo que Dios ha purificado no lo llames tú profano.”
10 Now this was done three times. And then everything was taken up again into heaven.	10 Esto se repitió hasta tres veces; y al fin fue retirado todo de nuevo al cielo.
11 And behold, immediately there were three men standing near the house where I was, having been sent to me from Caesarea.	11 «En aquel momento se presentaron tres hombres en la casa donde nosotros estábamos, enviados a mí desde Cesarea.
12 Then the Spirit told me that I should go with them, doubting nothing. And these six brothers went with me also. And we entered into the house of the man.	12 El Espíritu me dijo que fuera con ellos sin dudar. Fueron también conmigo estos seis hermanos, y entramos en la casa de aquel hombre.
13 And he described for us how he had seen an Angel in his house, standing and saying to him: ‘Send to Joppa and summon Simon, who is surnamed Peter.	13 El nos contó cómo había visto un ángel que se presentó en su casa y le dijo: “Manda a buscar en Joppe a Simón, llamado Pedro,
14 And he shall speak to you words, by which you shall be saved with your whole house.’	14 quien te dirá palabras que traerán la salvación para ti y para toda tu casa.”
15 And when I had begun to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, just as upon us also, in the beginning.	15 «Había empezado yo a hablar cuando cayó sobre ellos el Espíritu Santo, como al principio había caído sobre nosotros.
16 Then I remembered the words of the Lord, just as he himself said: ‘John, indeed, baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’	16 Me acordé entonces de aquellas palabras que dijo el Señor: Juan bautizó con agua, pero vosotros seréis bautizados con el Espíritu Santo.
17 Therefore, if God gave them the same grace, as also to us, who have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I would be able to prohibit God?”	17 Por tanto, si Dios les ha concedido el mismo don que a nosotros, por haber creído en el Señor Jesucristo, ¿quién era yo para poner obstáculos a Dios?»
18 Having heard these things, they were silent. And they glorified God, saying: “So has God also given to the Gentiles repentance unto life.”	18 Al oír esto se tranquilizaron y glorificaron a Dios diciendo: «Así pues, también a los gentiles les ha dado Dios la conversión que lleva a la vida».
19 And some of them, having been dispersed by the persecution that had occurred under Stephen, traveled around, even to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the Word to no one, except to Jews only.	19 Los que se habían dispersado cuando la tribulación originada a la muerte de Esteban, llegaron en su recorrido hasta Fenicia, Chipre y Antioquía, sin predicar la Palabra a nadie más que a los judíos.
20 But some of these men from Cyprus and Cyrene, when they had entered into Antioch, were speaking also to the Greeks, announcing the Lord Jesus.	20 Pero había entre ellos algunos chipriotas y cirenenses que, venidos a Antioquía, hablaban también a los griegos y les anunciaban la Buena Nueva del Señor Jesús.
21 And the hand of the Lord was with them. And a great number believed and were converted to the Lord.	21 La mano del Señor estaba con ellos, y un crecido número recibió la fe y se convirtió al Señor.
22 Now the news came to the ears of the Church at Jerusalem about these things, and they sent Barnabas as far as Antioch.	22 La noticia de esto llegó a oídos de la Iglesia de Jerusalén y enviaron a Bernabé a Antioquía.
23 And when he had arrived there and had seen the grace of God, he was gladdened. And he exhorted them all to continue in the Lord with a resolute heart.	23 Cuando llegó y vio la gracia de Dios se alegró y exhortaba a todos a permanecer, con corazón firme, unidos al Señor,
24 For he was a good man, and he was filled with the Holy Spirit and with faith. And a great multitude was added to the Lord.	24 porque era un hombre bueno, lleno de Espíritu Santo y de fe. Y una considerable multitud se agregó al Señor.
25 Then Barnabas set out for Tarsus, so that he might seek Saul. And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch.	25 Partió para Tarso en busca de Saulo,
26 And they were conversing there in the Church for an entire year. And they taught such a great multitude, that it was at Antioch that the disciples were first known by the name of Christian.	26 y en cuanto le encontró, le llevó a Antioquía. Estuvieron juntos durante un año entero en la Iglesia y adoctrinaron a una gran muchedumbre. En Antioquía fue donde, por primera vez, los discípulos recibieron el nombre de «cristianos».
27 Now in these days, prophets from Jerusalem went over to Antioch.	27 Por aquellos días bajaron unos profetas de Jerusalén a Antioquía.
28 And one of them, named Agabus, rising up, signified through the Spirit that there was going to be a great famine over the entire world, which did happen under Claudius.	28 Uno de ellos, llamado Agabo, movido por el Espíritu, se levantó y profetizó que vendría una gran hambre sobre toda la tierrra, la que hubo en tiempo de Claudio.
29 Then the disciples declared, according to what each one possessed, what they would offer to be sent to the brothers living in Judea.	29 Los discípulos determinaron enviar algunos recursos, según las posibilidades de cada uno, para los hermanos que vivían en Judea.
30 And so they did, sending it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.	30 Así lo hicieron y se los enviaron a los presbíteros por medio de Bernabé y de Saulo.
