Isaiah 8

1 And the Lord said to me: “Take up for yourself a large book, and with a man’s pen write in it: ‘Take away the spoils quickly; plunder swiftly.’ ”	1 Il Signore mi disse: "Prenditi una grande tavola e scrivi sopra con caratteri ordinari: "A Mahèr-salàl-cash-baz".
2 And I summoned to myself faithful witnesses: Uriah, the priest, and Zechariah, the son of Berechiah.	2 Io presi come testimoni sicuri il sacerdote Uria e Zaccaria, figlio di Iebarachìa.
3 And I joined with the prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. And the Lord said to me: “Call his name: ‘Rush to take away the spoils; Hurry to be plundered.’	3 Mi unii alla profetessa, che concepì e partorì un figlio. Il Signore mi disse: "Chiamalo Mahèr-salàl-cash-baz,
4 For before the boy knows how to call to his father and his mother, the strength of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria will be taken away, in the sight of the king of the Assyrians.”	4 poiché prima che il bambino sappia chiamare babbo e mamma le ricchezze di Damasco e il bottino di Samaria saranno portati davanti al re di Assiria".
5 And the Lord spoke to me further, saying:	5 Il Signore mi parlò di nuovo così:
6 “Because this people has cast aside the waters of Shiloah, which go forth silently, and has instead chosen Rezin and the son of Remaliah,	6 "Poiché questo popolo ha disprezzato le acque di Siloe che scorrono placidamente, e trema davanti a Rezìn e al figlio di Romelia,
7 for this reason, behold, the Lord will lead over them the waters of a river, strong and plentiful: the king of the Assyrians with all his glory. And he will rise up throughout all his streams, and he will overflow all his banks.	7 ecco che il Signore fa montare contro di voi le impetuose e abbondanti acque del fiume, il re di Assiria e tutta la sua gloria. Strariperà sopra tutti i suoi canali e inonderà tutte le sue sponde.
8 And he will pass through Judah, inundating it, and he will cross over and arrive, even at its neck. And he will extend his wings, filling the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.”	8 Inonderà la Giudea, la sommergerà travalicandola fino a raggiungere il collo, e le sue ali saranno spiegate su tutta l'ampiezza del tuo paese, o Emmanuele!".
9 O people, gather together, and be conquered! All distant lands, listen! Be strengthened, and be conquered! Gird yourselves, and be conquered!	9 Sappiatelo, o popoli, sarete schiacciati! Ascoltate, regioni tutte lontane della terra! Cingete le armi, sarete schiacciati! Cingete le armi, sarete schiacciati!
10 Undertake a plan, and it will be dissipated! Speak a word, and it will not be done! For God is with us.	10 Fate un progetto: sarà sventato; prendete una risoluzione, non avrà effetto, poiché Dio è con noi.
11 For the Lord said this to me, and he has instructed this to me with a strong hand, lest I go forth in the way of this people, saying:	11 Poiché così mi disse il Signore, quando mi prese per mano e mi avvertì di non andare per la via di questo popolo:
12 “You should not say ‘It is conspiracy!’ For all that this people speaks is a conspiracy. And you should be frightened or alarmed with their fear.	12 "Non chiamate alleanza tutto ciò che questo popolo chiama alleanza; non temete ciò che esso teme, e non vi spaventate.
13 Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself. Let him be your dread, and let him be your fear.	13 Il Signore degli eserciti, lui tenete per santo; egli sia l'oggetto del vostro timore, egli l'oggetto del vostro spavento".
14 And so shall he be a sanctification to you. But he will be a stone of offense and a rock of scandal to the two houses of Israel, and a snare and a ruin to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	14 Egli sarà un santuario, una pietra d'intoppo e un ostacolo d'inciampo per le due case d'Israele, un laccio e un trabocchetto per gli abitanti di Gerusalemme.
15 And very many of them will stumble and fall, and they will be broken and entangled and seized.	15 Molti di essi vi inciamperanno, cadranno e si sfracelleranno, saranno presi e catturati.
16 Bind the testimony, seal the law, among my disciples.”	16 "Rinchiudi la testimonianza, sigilla questa rivelazione tra i miei discepoli".
17 And I will wait for the Lord, who has concealed his face from the house of Jacob, and I will stand before him.	17 Io pongo la mia fiducia nel Signore, che nasconde la sua faccia alla casa di Giacobbe, e spero in lui.
18 Behold: I and my children, whom the Lord has given to me as a sign and a portent, in Israel, from the Lord of hosts, who lives on Mount Zion.	18 Ecco io e i figli che il Signore mi ha dato, siamo segni e presagi in Israele, da parte del Signore degli eserciti, che dimora sul monte Sion.
19 And though they say to you, “Seek from seers and diviners,” they who hiss in their incantations, should not the people seek from their God, for the sake of the living, and not from the dead?	19 Se vi si dice: "Consultate i negromanti e gl'indovini, che bisbigliano e mormorano": certo il popolo non deve forse consultare il suo Dio e i morti per i vivi?
20 And this is, moreover, for the sake of the law and the testimony. But if they do not speak according to this Word, then he will not have the morning light.	20 "Alla rivelazione, alla testimonianza!": così si parlerà, se no, non vi sarà aurora.
21 And he will pass by it; he will fall and become hungry. And when he is hungry, he will become angry, and he will speak evil against his king and his God, and he will lift himself upward.	21 Egli si aggirerà oppresso e affamato e quando sarà affamato, si irriterà e maledirà il suo re e il suo Dio; si volgerà verso l'alto,
22 And he will gaze downward to the earth, and behold: tribulation and darkness, dissolution and distress, and a pursuing gloom. For he will not be able to fly away from its distress.	22 poi riguarderà la terra, ed ecco angustia e tenebre e notte desolante! Ma la caligine sarà dissipata.
	23 Poiché non vi sarà caligine, dove c'era angoscia. In un primo tempo egli umiliò la terra di Zabulon e la terra di Neftali, ma nell'avvenire renderà gloriosa la via del mare, al di là del Giordano, il distretto delle nazioni.
