Isaiah 8

1 And the Lord said to me: “Take up for yourself a large book, and with a man’s pen write in it: ‘Take away the spoils quickly; plunder swiftly.’ ”	1 Yahvé me dit: Prends une grande tablette et écris dessus avec un stylet ordinaire: Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz.
2 And I summoned to myself faithful witnesses: Uriah, the priest, and Zechariah, the son of Berechiah.	2 Et prends des témoins dignes de foi, le prêtre Uriyya et Zekaryahu fils de Yebèrèkyahu.
3 And I joined with the prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. And the Lord said to me: “Call his name: ‘Rush to take away the spoils; Hurry to be plundered.’	3 Puis je m'approchai de la prophétesse, elle conçut et enfanta un fils. Et Yahvé me dit: Donne-lui le nomde Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz,
4 For before the boy knows how to call to his father and his mother, the strength of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria will be taken away, in the sight of the king of the Assyrians.”	4 car avant que le garçon ne sache dire "papa" et "maman", on enlèvera la richesse de Damas et le butinde Samarie, en présence du roi d'Assur.
5 And the Lord spoke to me further, saying:	5 Yahvé me parla encore en disant:
6 “Because this people has cast aside the waters of Shiloah, which go forth silently, and has instead chosen Rezin and the son of Remaliah,	6 Puisque ce peuple a méprisé les eaux de Siloé qui coulent doucement, et a tremblé devant Raçôn et lefils de Remalyahu,
7 for this reason, behold, the Lord will lead over them the waters of a river, strong and plentiful: the king of the Assyrians with all his glory. And he will rise up throughout all his streams, and he will overflow all his banks.	7 eh bien! voici que le Seigneur fait monter contre lui les eaux du Fleuve, puissantes et abondantes (le roid'Assur et toute sa gloire); il grossira dans toutes ses vallées et franchira toutes ses rives;
8 And he will pass through Judah, inundating it, and he will cross over and arrive, even at its neck. And he will extend his wings, filling the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.”	8 il passera en Juda, inondera et traversera; il atteindra jusqu'au cou, et le déploiement de ses ailescouvrira toute l'étendue de ton pays, Emmanuel.
9 O people, gather together, and be conquered! All distant lands, listen! Be strengthened, and be conquered! Gird yourselves, and be conquered!	9 Sachez, peuples, et soyez épouvantés; prêtez l'oreille, tous les pays lointains. Ceignez-vous et soyezépouvantés. Ceignez-vous et soyez épouvantés.
10 Undertake a plan, and it will be dissipated! Speak a word, and it will not be done! For God is with us.	10 Faites un projet: il sera anéanti, prononcez une parole: elle ne tiendra pas, car "Dieu est avec nous."
11 For the Lord said this to me, and he has instructed this to me with a strong hand, lest I go forth in the way of this people, saying:	11 Oui, ainsi m'a parlé Yahvé lorsque sa main m'a saisi et qu'il m'a appris à ne pas suivre le chemin de cepeuple, en disant:
12 “You should not say ‘It is conspiracy!’ For all that this people speaks is a conspiracy. And you should be frightened or alarmed with their fear.	12 "Vous n'appellerez pas complot tout ce que ce peuple appelle complot, vous ne partagerez pas sescraintes et vous n'en serez pas terrifiés.
13 Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself. Let him be your dread, and let him be your fear.	13 C'est Yahvé Sabaot que vous proclamerez saint, c'est lui qui sera l'objet de votre crainte et de votreterreur.
14 And so shall he be a sanctification to you. But he will be a stone of offense and a rock of scandal to the two houses of Israel, and a snare and a ruin to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	14 Il sera un sanctuaire, un rocher qui fait tomber, une pierre d'achoppement pour les deux maisonsd'Israël, un filet et un piège pour les habitants de Jérusalem.
15 And very many of them will stumble and fall, and they will be broken and entangled and seized.	15 Beaucoup y achopperont, tomberont et se briseront, ils seront pris au piège et capturés.
16 Bind the testimony, seal the law, among my disciples.”	16 Enferme un témoignage, scelle une instruction au coeur de mes disciples."
17 And I will wait for the Lord, who has concealed his face from the house of Jacob, and I will stand before him.	17 J'espère en Yahvé qui cache sa face à la maison de Jacob, et je mets mon attente en lui.
18 Behold: I and my children, whom the Lord has given to me as a sign and a portent, in Israel, from the Lord of hosts, who lives on Mount Zion.	18 Voici que moi et les enfants que Yahvé m'a donnés nous devenons signes et présages en Israël, de lapart de Yahvé Sabaot qui habite sur la montagne de Sion.
19 And though they say to you, “Seek from seers and diviners,” they who hiss in their incantations, should not the people seek from their God, for the sake of the living, and not from the dead?	19 Et si on vous dit: "Allez consulter les spectres et les devins qui murmurent et qui marmonnent", n'est-il pas vrai qu'un peuple consulte ses dieux, et les morts pour les vivants?
20 And this is, moreover, for the sake of the law and the testimony. But if they do not speak according to this Word, then he will not have the morning light.	20 Pour l'instruction et le témoignage, sûrement on s'exprimera selon cette parole d'après laquelle il n'y apas d'aurore.
21 And he will pass by it; he will fall and become hungry. And when he is hungry, he will become angry, and he will speak evil against his king and his God, and he will lift himself upward.	21 Et il passera dans le pays, opprimé et affamé; il arrivera que lorsqu'il sera affamé, il s'irritera, ilmaudira son roi et son Dieu, et se tournera vers le ciel.
22 And he will gaze downward to the earth, and behold: tribulation and darkness, dissolution and distress, and a pursuing gloom. For he will not be able to fly away from its distress.	22 Puis il regardera vers la terre; et voici: angoisse, obscurité, nuit de détresse, ténèbres dissolvantes.
	23 Car n'est-ce pas la nuit pour le pays qui est dans la détresse? Comme le passé a humilié le pays deZabulon et le pays de Nephtali, l'avenir glorifiera le chemin de la mer, au-delà du Jourdain, le district desnations.
