Isaiah 8

1 And the Lord said to me: “Take up for yourself a large book, and with a man’s pen write in it: ‘Take away the spoils quickly; plunder swiftly.’ ”	1 El Señor me dijo: «Toma una tabla bien grande y escribe sobre ella, con caracteres comunes: Rápido Botín – Saqueo Veloz».
2 And I summoned to myself faithful witnesses: Uriah, the priest, and Zechariah, the son of Berechiah.	2 Yo puse como testigos fidedignos al sacerdote Urías y a Zacarías, hijo de Baraquías.
3 And I joined with the prophetess, and she conceived and gave birth to a son. And the Lord said to me: “Call his name: ‘Rush to take away the spoils; Hurry to be plundered.’	3 Luego tuve relaciones con la profetisa y ella concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Entonces el Señor me dijo: «Llámalo con el nombre de Rápido Botín – Saqueo Veloz,
4 For before the boy knows how to call to his father and his mother, the strength of Damascus and the spoils of Samaria will be taken away, in the sight of the king of the Assyrians.”	4 porque antes de que el niño aprenda a decir «papá» y «mamá», las riquezas de Damasco y el botín de Samaría serán llevados ante el rey de Asiria».
5 And the Lord spoke to me further, saying:	5 El Señor me volvió a hablar otra vez, diciendo:
6 “Because this people has cast aside the waters of Shiloah, which go forth silently, and has instead chosen Rezin and the son of Remaliah,	6 Porque este pueblo rehúsa las aguas de Siloé, que corren mansamente, y desfallece ante Resín y el hijo de Remalías,
7 for this reason, behold, the Lord will lead over them the waters of a river, strong and plentiful: the king of the Assyrians with all his glory. And he will rise up throughout all his streams, and he will overflow all his banks.	7 por eso, el Señor hace subir contra ellos las aguas torrenciales y caudalosas del Río –el rey de Asiria con toda su gloria–. El rebasará todos sus cauces, desbordará por todas sus orillas,
8 And he will pass through Judah, inundating it, and he will cross over and arrive, even at its neck. And he will extend his wings, filling the breadth of your land, O Immanuel.”	8 y pasará por Judá, inundará, crecerá, llegará hasta el cuello. Y sus alas desplegadas abarcarán toda la extensión de tu país, Emanuel.
9 O people, gather together, and be conquered! All distant lands, listen! Be strengthened, and be conquered! Gird yourselves, and be conquered!	9 ¡Tiemblen, pueblos, y espántense; presten atención, regiones lejanas de la tierra! ¡Cíñanse las armas y espántense! ¡Cíñanse las armas y espántense!
10 Undertake a plan, and it will be dissipated! Speak a word, and it will not be done! For God is with us.	10 Hagan un proyecto: ¡fracasará! Digan una palabra: ¡no se realizará! Porque Dios está con nosotros.
11 For the Lord said this to me, and he has instructed this to me with a strong hand, lest I go forth in the way of this people, saying:	11 Porque así me habló el Señor, cuando me tomó con su mano y me conminó a que no siguiera el camino de este pueblo:
12 “You should not say ‘It is conspiracy!’ For all that this people speaks is a conspiracy. And you should be frightened or alarmed with their fear.	12 No llamen «conjura» a todo lo que este pueblo llama «conjura»; no teman lo que él teme ni tiemblen por eso,
13 Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself. Let him be your dread, and let him be your fear.	13 Pero al Señor de los ejércitos, a él sí proclámenlo santo: que sólo él les infunda temor, que sólo él los haga temblar.
14 And so shall he be a sanctification to you. But he will be a stone of offense and a rock of scandal to the two houses of Israel, and a snare and a ruin to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.	14 El será un santuario, una piedra de tropiezo y un escollo insuperable para las dos casas de Israel; será una red y una trampa para los habitantes de Jerusalén.
15 And very many of them will stumble and fall, and they will be broken and entangled and seized.	15 Muchos de entre ellos tropezarán, caerán y se quebrarán, se enredarán en la trampa y quedarán atrapados.
16 Bind the testimony, seal the law, among my disciples.”	16 Voy a guardar el testimonio, a sellar la instrucción entre mis discípulos.
17 And I will wait for the Lord, who has concealed his face from the house of Jacob, and I will stand before him.	17 Esperaré en el Señor, que oculta su rostro a la casa de Jacob: sí, lo aguardaré.
18 Behold: I and my children, whom the Lord has given to me as a sign and a portent, in Israel, from the Lord of hosts, who lives on Mount Zion.	18 Yo y los hijos que me dio el Señor somos signos y presagios en Israel, de parte del Señor de los ejércitos, que habita en el monte Sión.
19 And though they say to you, “Seek from seers and diviners,” they who hiss in their incantations, should not the people seek from their God, for the sake of the living, and not from the dead?	19 Seguramente les dirán: «Consulten a los nigromantes y adivinos, que musitan y susurran. ¿No debe un pueblo consultar a sus dioses, consultar a los muertos en favor de los vivos,
20 And this is, moreover, for the sake of the law and the testimony. But if they do not speak according to this Word, then he will not have the morning light.	20 para recibir instrucción y testimonio?». Seguro que se expresan así porque para ellos no despunta la aurora.
21 And he will pass by it; he will fall and become hungry. And when he is hungry, he will become angry, and he will speak evil against his king and his God, and he will lift himself upward.	21 La gente pasará por el país, abrumada y hambrienta; y enfurecida por el hambre, maldecirá por el hambre, maldecirá a su rey a a su Dios. Volverá su rostro hacia lo alto.
22 And he will gaze downward to the earth, and behold: tribulation and darkness, dissolution and distress, and a pursuing gloom. For he will not be able to fly away from its distress.	22 luego mirará a la tierra, y sólo habrá aflicción y tinieblas, angustiosa oscuridad. Pero la tiniebla será disipada,
	23 porque ya no habrá oscuridad allí donde reinaba la angustia.
