1 Corinthians 10

1 I want you to be quite certain, brothers, that our ancestors al had the cloud over them and al passedthrough the sea.	1 Non voglio lasciarvi ignorare, o fratelli, che i padri nostri furon tutti sotto la nuvola, e tutti attraversarono il mare,
2 In the cloud and in the sea they were all baptised into Moses;	2 e tutti furon battezzati per Mosè nella nube e nel mare,
3 al ate the same spiritual food	3 e tutti mangiarono dello stesso cibo spirituale,
4 and al drank the same spiritual drink, since they drank from the spiritual rock which fol owed them,and that rock was Christ.	4 e tutti bevvero la stessa bevanda spirituale, (bevevano alla pietra spirituale che li accompagnava, e quella pietra era Cristo).
5 In spite of this, God was not pleased with most of them, and their corpses were scattered over thedesert.	5 Ma non un gran numero di essi Dio si compiacque: difatti caddero morti nel deserto.
6 Now these happenings were examples, for our benefit, so that we should never set our hearts, as theydid, on evil things;	6 Or queste cose eran figure per utile nostro, affinchè non desideriamo cose cattive come essi fecero;
7 nor are you to worship false gods, as some of them did, as it says in scripture: The people sat down toeat and drink, and afterwards got up to amuse themselves.	7 nè diveniate idolatri, come alcuni di loro, conforme sta scritto: Si adagiò il popolo per mangiare e bere, poi si alzò per divertirsi;
8 Nor, again, are we to fall into sexual immorality; some of them did this, and twenty-three thousand mettheir downfal in one day.	8 nè fornichiamo come alcuni di essi fecero e ne caddero morti in un sol giorno ventitremila;
9 And we are not to put the Lord to the test; some of them put him to the test, and they were killed bysnakes.	9 nè tentiamo Cristo, come lo tentarono alcuni di loro, che furono uccisi dai serpenti;
10 Never complain; some of them complained, and they were killed by the Destroyer.	10 nè mormoriate, come alcuni di essi mormorarono, e furono distrutti dallo sterminatore.
11 Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were described in writing to bea lesson for us, to whom it has fallen to live in the last days of the ages.	11 Or tutte queste cose accaddero loro in figura, e sono state scritte a nostro avvertimento, per noi che siamo venuti alla fine dei secoli.
12 Everyone, no matter how firmly he thinks he is standing, must be careful he does not fall.	12 Quindi chi crede di stare in piedi, guardi di non cadere.
13 None of the trials which have come upon you is more than a human being can stand. You can trustthat God wil not let you be put to the test beyond your strength, but with any trial will also provide a way out byenabling you to put up with it.	13 Non vi hanno assaliti che tentazioni umane: or Dio è fedele e non permetterà che voi siate tentati oltre le vostro forze; ma con la tentazione darà anche il modo di trarne profitto, donandovi la forza di poterla sopportare.
14 For that reason, my dear friends, have nothing to do with the worship of false gods.	14 Perciò, miei diletti, fuggite l'idolatria.
15 I am talking to you as sensible people; weigh up for yourselves what I have to say.	15 Vi parlo come a persone intelligenti, giudicate voi stessi di quel che dico.
16 The blessing-cup, which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ; and the loaf of bread which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?	16 Il calice della benedizione che noi benediciamo, non è forse la comunione del sangue di Cristo? E il pane che noi spezziamo, non è egli la comunione del corpo del Signore?
17 And as there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all sharein the one loaf.	17 Siccome vi è un unico pane, noi, pur essendo molti, formiamo un sol corpo, comunicandoci col medesimo pane.
18 Now compare the natural people of Israel: is it not true that those who eat the sacrifices share thealtar?	18 Guardate l'Israele secondo la carne: non è egli vero che partecipano all'altare quelli che mangiano le vittime?
19 What does this mean? That the dedication of food to false gods amounts to anything? Or that falsegods themselves amount to anything?	19 Che voglio dunque dire? Che sia qualche cosa ciò che è immolato agli idoli? O che un idolo sia qualche cosa?
20 No, it does not; simply that when pagans sacrifice, what is sacrificed by them is sacrificed to demonswho are not God. I do not want you to share with demons.	20 Dico invece che le cose immolate dai Gentili, ai demoni sono immolate e non a Dio. Or io non voglio che voi siate in comunione coi demoni. Non potete bere il calice del Signore e il calice dei demoni.
21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons as wel ; you cannot have a share at theLord's table and the demons' table as wel .	21 Non potete partecipare alla mensa del Signore e alla mensa dei demoni.
22 Do we real y want to arouse the Lord's jealousy; are we stronger than he is?	22 Vogliam forse provocare la gelosia del Signore? Siam forse più forti di lui? Si possono mangiare le carni immolate se non c'è scandalo
23 'Everything is permissible'; maybe so, but not everything does good. True, everything is permissible,but not everything builds people up.	23 Tutto mi è lecito; ma non tutto è utile. Tutto mi è lecito; ma non tutto è di edificazione.
24 Nobody should be looking for selfish advantage, but everybody for someone else's.	24 Nessuno cerchi il proprio vantaggio, ma quel degli altri.
25 Eat anything that is sold in butchers' shops; there is no need to ask questions for conscience's sake,	25 Mangiate di tutto quello che si vende al macello, senza cercar d'altro, per riguardo della coscienza;
26 since To the Lord belong the earth and all it contains.	26 perchè «del Signore è la terra con tutto quello che essa contiene ».
27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal, go if you want to, and eat whatever is put before you; you neednot ask questions of conscience first.	27 Se uno degli infedeli v'invita e vi piace d'andare, mangiate di tutto quello che vi è posto davanti, senz'altro cercare per riguardo alla coscienza.
28 But if someone says to you, 'This food has been offered in sacrifice,' do not eat it, out ofconsideration for the person that told you, for conscience's sake-	28 Ma se uno vi dirà: « Questo è stato immolato agli idoli », non ne mangiate, per riguardo a colui che vi ha avvertito e per riguardo alla coscienza;
29 not your own conscience, I mean, but the other person's. Why should my freedom be governed bysomebody else's conscience?	29 alla coscienza dico, non tua, ma di quell'altro. E perchè dunque la mia libertà deve essere giudicata dalla coscienza altrui?
30 Provided that I accept it with gratitude, why should I be blamed for eating food for which I givethanks?	30 E se io partecipo (alla mensa) rendendo grazie, perchè devo essere biasimato per cose di cui rendo grazie?
31 Whatever you eat, then, or drink, and whatever else you do, do it al for the glory of God.	31 Or dunque sia che mangiate, sia che beviate, o facciate qualunque altra cosa, fate tutto a gloria di Dio.
32 Never be a cause of offence, either to Jews or to Greeks or to the Church of God,	32 Non siate di scandalo nè ai Giudei, nè ai Gentili, nè alla Chiesa di Dio.
33 just as I try to accommodate everybody in everything, not looking for my own advantage, but for theadvantage of everybody else, so that they may be saved.	33 Come anch'io mi sforzo di piacere a tutti in ogni cosa, non cercando il mio vantaggio, ma quello di molti, affinchè siano salvi.
