1 Corinthians 10

1 I want you to be quite certain, brothers, that our ancestors al had the cloud over them and al passedthrough the sea.	1 Imperocchè non voglio, che voi ignoriate, o fratelli, come i padri nostri furono tutti sotto quella nuvola, e tutti passarono per quel mare;
2 In the cloud and in the sea they were all baptised into Moses;	2 E tutti furono battezzati per Mosè nella nube, e nel mare:
3 al ate the same spiritual food	3 E tutti mangiarono dello stesso cibo spirituale,
4 and al drank the same spiritual drink, since they drank from the spiritual rock which fol owed them,and that rock was Christ.	4 E tutti bevvero la stessa bevanda spirituale: (or bevevano della pietra spirituale, che gli accompagnava: e quella pietra era Cristo).
5 In spite of this, God was not pleased with most of them, and their corpses were scattered over thedesert.	5 Ma non a favore de' più di essi fu il beneplacito di Dio: conciossiachè furono messi per terra nel deserto.
6 Now these happenings were examples, for our benefit, so that we should never set our hearts, as theydid, on evil things;	6 E queste cose erano figure di noi, affinchè non desideriamo cose cattive, come quegli desiderarono:
7 nor are you to worship false gods, as some of them did, as it says in scripture: The people sat down toeat and drink, and afterwards got up to amuse themselves.	7 Né siate adoratori degli idoli, come alcuni di loro, conforme sta scritto: si adagiò il popolo per mangiare, e bere, e si alzarono per tripudiare.
8 Nor, again, are we to fall into sexual immorality; some of them did this, and twenty-three thousand mettheir downfal in one day.	8 Né fornichiamo, come alcuni di essi, fornicarono, e ne peri in un sol giorno ventitre mila.
9 And we are not to put the Lord to the test; some of them put him to the test, and they were killed bysnakes.	9 Né tentiamo Cristo: come alcuni di loro lo tentarono, e furono uccisi da' serpenti.
10 Never complain; some of them complained, and they were killed by the Destroyer.	10 Né mormorate, come alcuni di loro mormorarono, e furono spersi dallo sterminatore.
11 Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were described in writing to bea lesson for us, to whom it has fallen to live in the last days of the ages.	11 Or queste cose tutte accadevan loro in figura: e sono state scritte per avvertimento di noi, ai quali è venuta la fine de' secoli.
12 Everyone, no matter how firmly he thinks he is standing, must be careful he does not fall.	12 Per la qual cosa chi si crede di star in piedi, badi di non cadere.
13 None of the trials which have come upon you is more than a human being can stand. You can trustthat God wil not let you be put to the test beyond your strength, but with any trial will also provide a way out byenabling you to put up with it.	13 Non vi ha sorpreso tentazione se non umana: ma fedele è Dio, il quale non permetterà, che voi siate tentati oltre il vostro potere, ma darà con la tentazione il profitto, affinchè possiate sostenere.
14 For that reason, my dear friends, have nothing to do with the worship of false gods.	14 Per la qual cosa, diletti miei, fuggite l'idolatria:
15 I am talking to you as sensible people; weigh up for yourselves what I have to say.	15 Parlo come a persone intelligenti, giudicate voi di quel, ch'io dico.
16 The blessing-cup, which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ; and the loaf of bread which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?	16 Il calice della benedizione, cui noi benediciamo, non è egli comunicazione del sangue di Cristo? E il pane,che noi spezziamo, non è egli comunicazione del corpo del Signore?
17 And as there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all sharein the one loaf.	17 Dappoiché un pane solo, un solo corpo siamo noi molti, quanti di quel solo pane partecipiamo.
18 Now compare the natural people of Israel: is it not true that those who eat the sacrifices share thealtar?	18 Mirate Israele carnale: non è egli vero, che quegli, che mangiano dell'ostia, hanno comunione coll'altare?
19 What does this mean? That the dedication of food to false gods amounts to anything? Or that falsegods themselves amount to anything?	19 Che dico io adunque? Che sia qualche cosa l'immolato agli idoli? o che qualche cosa sia l'idolo?
20 No, it does not; simply that when pagans sacrifice, what is sacrificed by them is sacrificed to demonswho are not God. I do not want you to share with demons.	20 Ma quello, che le genti immolano, lo immolano ai demonj, e non a Dio. Non voglio che voi siate consorti de' demonj: voi non potete bere il calice del Signore, ed il calice de' demonj.
21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons as wel ; you cannot have a share at theLord's table and the demons' table as wel .	21 Non potete partecipare alla mensa del Signore, e alla mensa de' demonj.
22 Do we real y want to arouse the Lord's jealousy; are we stronger than he is?	22 Provochiam noi a emulazione il Signore? Siamo forse di lui più forti? Tutto mi è permesso, ma non tutto è spediente.
23 'Everything is permissible'; maybe so, but not everything does good. True, everything is permissible,but not everything builds people up.	23 Tutto mi è permesso, ma non tutto è di edificazione.
24 Nobody should be looking for selfish advantage, but everybody for someone else's.	24 Niuno cerchi quel, che torna a lui, ma ognuno quel che torna per gli altri.
25 Eat anything that is sold in butchers' shops; there is no need to ask questions for conscience's sake,	25 Tutto quello, che si vende al macello, mangiatelo senza cercar altro per riguardo della coscienza.
26 since To the Lord belong the earth and all it contains.	26 Conciossiachè del Signore è la' terra, e quello, che la riempie.
27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal, go if you want to, and eat whatever is put before you; you neednot ask questions of conscience first.	27 Che se alcuno degli infedeli vi invita a cena, e vi piace di andare: mangiate di tutto quello, che vi è posto davanti, senza cercar altro per riguardo della coscienza.
28 But if someone says to you, 'This food has been offered in sacrifice,' do not eat it, out ofconsideration for the person that told you, for conscience's sake-	28 Che se uno diravvi: questo è stato immolato agli idoli: non ne mangiate per riguardo a colui, che vi ha avvertito, e per riguardo della coscienza:
29 not your own conscience, I mean, but the other person's. Why should my freedom be governed bysomebody else's conscience?	29 Della coscienza, dico, non tua, ma di quell'altro. Imperocché per qual motivo la mia libertà è condannata dalla coscienza altrui?
30 Provided that I accept it with gratitude, why should I be blamed for eating food for which I givethanks?	30 E se io partecipo di una grazia, e perché si dice male di me per cosa, di cui rendo grazie?
31 Whatever you eat, then, or drink, and whatever else you do, do it al for the glory of God.	31 O mangiate adunque, o beviate, o facciate altra cosa: tutto fate a gloria di Dio.
32 Never be a cause of offence, either to Jews or to Greeks or to the Church of God,	32 Non siate d'inciampo né a' Giudei, né a' Gentili, nè alla Chiesa di Dio:
33 just as I try to accommodate everybody in everything, not looking for my own advantage, but for theadvantage of everybody else, so that they may be saved.	33 Siccome io pure in tutto mi adatto a tutti, non cercando la mia utilità, ma quella di molti, affinchè siano salvi.
