1 Corinthians 10

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBLIA
1 I want you to be quite certain, brothers, that our ancestors al had the cloud over them and al passedthrough the sea.	1 No quiero que ignoréis, hermanos, que nuestros padres estuvieron todos bajo la nube y todos atravesaron el mar;
2 In the cloud and in the sea they were all baptised into Moses;	2 y todos fueron bautizados en Moisés, por la nube y el mar;
3 al ate the same spiritual food	3 y todos comieron el mismo alimento espiritual;
4 and al drank the same spiritual drink, since they drank from the spiritual rock which fol owed them,and that rock was Christ.	4 y todos bebieron la misma bebida espiritual, pues bebían de la roca espiritual que les seguía; y la roca era Cristo.
5 In spite of this, God was not pleased with most of them, and their corpses were scattered over thedesert.	5 Pero la mayoría de ellos no fueron del agrado de Dios, pues sus cuerpos quedaron tendidos en el desierto.
6 Now these happenings were examples, for our benefit, so that we should never set our hearts, as theydid, on evil things;	6 Estas cosas sucedieron en figura para nosotros para que no codiciemos lo malo como ellos lo codiciaron.
7 nor are you to worship false gods, as some of them did, as it says in scripture: The people sat down toeat and drink, and afterwards got up to amuse themselves.	7 No os hagáis idólatras al igual de algunos de ellos, como dice la Escritura: «Sentóse el pueblo a comer y a beber y se levantó a divertirse».
8 Nor, again, are we to fall into sexual immorality; some of them did this, and twenty-three thousand mettheir downfal in one day.	8 Ni forniquemos como algunos de ellos fornicaron y cayeron muertos 23.000 en un solo día.
9 And we are not to put the Lord to the test; some of them put him to the test, and they were killed bysnakes.	9 Ni tentemos al Señor como algunos de ellos le tentaron y perecieron víctimas de las serpientes.
10 Never complain; some of them complained, and they were killed by the Destroyer.	10 Ni murmuréis como algunos de ellos murmuraron y perecieron bajo el Exterminador.
11 Now all these things happened to them by way of example, and they were described in writing to bea lesson for us, to whom it has fallen to live in the last days of the ages.	11 Todo esto les acontecía en figura, y fue escrito para aviso de los que hemos llegado a la plenitud de los tiempos.
12 Everyone, no matter how firmly he thinks he is standing, must be careful he does not fall.	12 Así pues, el que crea estar en pie, mire no caiga.
13 None of the trials which have come upon you is more than a human being can stand. You can trustthat God wil not let you be put to the test beyond your strength, but with any trial will also provide a way out byenabling you to put up with it.	13 No habéis sufrido tentación superior a la medida humana. Y fiel es Dios que no permitirá seáis tentados sobre vuestras fuerzas. Antes bien, con la tentación os dará modo de poderla resistir con éxito.
14 For that reason, my dear friends, have nothing to do with the worship of false gods.	14 Por eso, queridos, huid de la idolatría.
15 I am talking to you as sensible people; weigh up for yourselves what I have to say.	15 Os hablo como a prudentes. Juzgad vosotros lo que digo.
16 The blessing-cup, which we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ; and the loaf of bread which we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ?	16 La copa de bendición que bendecimos ¿no es acaso comunión con la sangre de Cristo? Y el pan que partimos ¿no es comunión con el cuerpo de Cristo?
17 And as there is one loaf, so we, although there are many of us, are one single body, for we all sharein the one loaf.	17 Porque aun siendo muchos, un solo pan y un solo cuerpo somos, pues todos participamos de un solo pan.
18 Now compare the natural people of Israel: is it not true that those who eat the sacrifices share thealtar?	18 Fijaos en el Israel según la carne. Los que comen de las víctimas ¿no están acaso en comunión con el altar?
19 What does this mean? That the dedication of food to false gods amounts to anything? Or that falsegods themselves amount to anything?	19 ¿Qué digo, pues? ¿Que lo inmolado a los ídolos es algo? O ¿que los ídolos son algo?
20 No, it does not; simply that when pagans sacrifice, what is sacrificed by them is sacrificed to demonswho are not God. I do not want you to share with demons.	20 Pero si lo que inmolan los gentiles, ¡lo inmolan a los demonios y no a Dios! Y yo no quiero que entréis en comunion con los demonios.
21 You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons as wel ; you cannot have a share at theLord's table and the demons' table as wel .	21 No podéis beber de la copa del Señor y de la copa de los demonios. No podéis participar de la mesa del Señor y de la mesa de los demonios.
22 Do we real y want to arouse the Lord's jealousy; are we stronger than he is?	22 ¿O es que queremos provocar los celos del Señor? ¿Somos acaso más fuertes que él?
23 'Everything is permissible'; maybe so, but not everything does good. True, everything is permissible,but not everything builds people up.	23 «Todo es lícito», mas no todo es conveniente. «Todo es lícito», mas no todo edifica.
24 Nobody should be looking for selfish advantage, but everybody for someone else's.	24 Que nadie procure su propio interés, sino el de los demás.
25 Eat anything that is sold in butchers' shops; there is no need to ask questions for conscience's sake,	25 Comed todo lo que se vende en el mercado sin plantearos cuestiones de conciencia;
26 since To the Lord belong the earth and all it contains.	26 pues del Señor es la tierra y todo cuanto contiene.
27 If an unbeliever invites you to a meal, go if you want to, and eat whatever is put before you; you neednot ask questions of conscience first.	27 Si un infiel os invita y vosotros aceptáis, comed todo lo que os presente sin plantearos cuestiones de conciencia.
28 But if someone says to you, 'This food has been offered in sacrifice,' do not eat it, out ofconsideration for the person that told you, for conscience's sake-	28 Mas si alguien os dice: «Esto ha sido ofrecido en sacrificio», no lo comáis, a causa del que lo advirtió y por motivos de conciencia.
29 not your own conscience, I mean, but the other person's. Why should my freedom be governed bysomebody else's conscience?	29 No me refiero a tu conciencia, sino a la del otro; pues ¿cómo va a ser juzgada la libertad de mi conciencia por una conciencia ajena?
30 Provided that I accept it with gratitude, why should I be blamed for eating food for which I givethanks?	30 Si yo tomo algo dando gracias, ¿por qué voy a ser reprendido por aquello mismo que tomo dando gracias?
31 Whatever you eat, then, or drink, and whatever else you do, do it al for the glory of God.	31 Por tanto, ya comáis, ya bebáis o hagáis cualquier otra cosa, hacedlo todo para gloria de Dios.
32 Never be a cause of offence, either to Jews or to Greeks or to the Church of God,	32 No deis escándalo ni a judíos ni a griegos ni a la Iglesia de Dios;
33 just as I try to accommodate everybody in everything, not looking for my own advantage, but for theadvantage of everybody else, so that they may be saved.	33 lo mismo que yo, que me esfuerzo por agradar a todos en todo, sin procurar mi propio interés, sino el de la mayoría, para que se salven.
