BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW AMERICAN BIBLE
1 Figliuol mio, se tu vorrai dar ricetto alle mio parole, e riporre gli insegnamenti miei nel tuo seno,	1 My son, if you receive my words and treasure my commands,
2 Affinchè le tue orecchie siano intente alle voci della sapienza, rivolgi il cuor tuo a conoscere la prudenza:	2 Turning your ear to wisdom, inclining your heart to understanding;
3 Perocché se tu invocherai la sapienza, e il cuor tuo rivolgerai alla prudenza;	3 Yes, if you call to intelligence, and to understanding raise your voice;
4 Se cercherai di lei, come si fa delle ricchezze, e la scaverai, come si fa dei tesori,	4 If you seek her like silver, and like hidden treasures search her out:
5 Allora tu apparerai il timor del Signore, e troverai la scienza di Dio:	5 Then will you understand the fear of the LORD; the knowledge of God you will find;
6 Perocché il Signore è quegli, che da la sapienza, e dalla bocca di lui (viene) la prudenza, e la scienza.	6 For the LORD gives wisdom, from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
7 Egli è il custode della salute de' giusti, e protettore di quelli, che camminano nella innocenza.	7 He has counsel in store for the upright, he is the shield of those who walk honestly,
8 E' regge i passi de' giusti, e governa le vie dei santi.	8 Guarding the paths of justice, protecting the way of his pious ones.
9 Allora tu intenderai la giustizia, la rettitudine, e l'equità, e tutti i sentieri della onestà.	9 Then you will understand rectitude and justice, honesty, every good path;
10 Se entrerà in cuor tuo la sapienza, e se la scienza sarà tuo diletto,	10 For wisdom will enter your heart, knowledge will please your soul,
11 Tuo custode sarà il buon consiglio, e la prudenza ti salverà,	11 Discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you;
12 Lontano tenendoti dalla via del male, e dagli uomini di lingua perversa:	12 Saving you from the way of evil men, from men of perverse speech,
13 I quali abbandonan la via diritta, e battono vie tenebrose.	13 Who leave the straight paths to walk in the way of darkness,
14 I quali si rallegrano del male, che han fatto, e delle loro malvagità fanno festa.	14 Who delight in doing evil, rejoice in perversity;
15 Le vie de' quali son storte, e vituperesi i loro andamenti.	15 Whose ways are crooked, and devious their paths;
16 Ella ti farà star lontano dalla donna altrui, e dalla donna straniera, che ha melate parole.	16 Saving you from the wife of another, from the adulteress with her smooth words,
17 E abbandona il rettore di sua giovinezza,	17 Who forsakes the companion of her youth and forgets the pact with her God;
18 Ed ha messo in dimenticanza il patto del Dio suo: la casa di lei declina verso la morte, e le sue vie verso l'inferno.	18 For her path sinks down to death, and her footsteps lead to the shades;
19 Tutti quelli, che entrano in casa di lei non torneranno indietro, né ripiglieranno le vie della vita.	19 None who enter thereon come back again, or gain the paths of life.
20 Affinchè tu segua la buona strada e non esca dai sentieri de' giusti.	20 Thus you may walk in the way of good men, and keep to the paths of the just.
21 Perocché gli uomini retti abiteranno la terra, e gli innocenti vi averan ferma stanza.	21 For the upright will dwell in the land, the honest will remain in it;
22 Ma gli empj saranno sterminati dalla terra, e quelli, che operano iniquamente, ne saranno rapiti.	22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land, the faithless will be rooted out of it.
