υιε εαν δεξαμενος ρησιν εμης εντολης κρυψης παρα σεαυτω | 1 My son, if you would accept my words, and conceal my commandments within you, |
υπακουσεται σοφιας το ους σου και παραβαλεις καρδιαν σου εις συνεσιν παραβαλεις δε αυτην επι νουθετησιν τω υιω σου | 2 so that your ears may listen to wisdom, then bend your heart in order to know prudence. |
εαν γαρ την σοφιαν επικαλεση και τη συνεσει δως φωνην σου την δε αισθησιν ζητησης μεγαλη τη φωνη | 3 For if you would call upon wisdom and bend your heart to prudence, |
και εαν ζητησης αυτην ως αργυριον και ως θησαυρους εξερευνησης αυτην | 4 if you will seek her like money, and dig for her as if for treasure, |
τοτε συνησεις φοβον κυριου και επιγνωσιν θεου ευρησεις | 5 then you will understand the fear of the Lord, and you will discover the knowledge of God. |
οτι κυριος διδωσιν σοφιαν και απο προσωπου αυτου γνωσις και συνεσις | 6 For the Lord bestows wisdom, and out of his mouth, prudence and knowledge. |
και θησαυριζει τοις κατορθουσι σωτηριαν υπερασπιει την πορειαν αυτων | 7 He will preserve the salvation of the righteous, and he will protect those who walk in simplicity: |
του φυλαξαι οδους δικαιωματων και οδον ευλαβουμενων αυτον διαφυλαξει | 8 serving the paths of justice, and guarding the ways of sanctity. |
τοτε συνησεις δικαιοσυνην και κριμα και κατορθωσεις παντας αξονας αγαθους | 9 Then you shall understand justice and judgment, and equity, and every good path. |
εαν γαρ ελθη η σοφια εις σην διανοιαν η δε αισθησις τη ση ψυχη καλη ειναι δοξη | 10 If wisdom is to enter into your heart, and if knowledge is to become pleasing to your soul, |
βουλη καλη φυλαξει σε εννοια δε οσια τηρησει σε | 11 then counsel must guard you, and prudence must serve you, |
ινα ρυσηται σε απο οδου κακης και απο ανδρος λαλουντος μηδεν πιστον | 12 so that you may be rescued from the evil way, and from the man who speaks perversities, |
ω οι εγκαταλειποντες οδους ευθειας του πορευεσθαι εν οδοις σκοτους | 13 from those who leave the straight path to walk in dark ways, |
οι ευφραινομενοι επι κακοις και χαιροντες επι διαστροφη κακη | 14 who rejoice when they have done evil, and who exult in the most wicked things. |
ων αι τριβοι σκολιαι και καμπυλαι αι τροχιαι αυτων | 15 Their ways are perverse, and their steps are infamous. |
του μακραν σε ποιησαι απο οδου ευθειας και αλλοτριον της δικαιας γνωμης | 16 So may you be rescued from the foreign woman, and from the outsider, who softens her speech, |
υιε μη σε καταλαβη κακη βουλη η απολειπουσα διδασκαλιαν νεοτητος και διαθηκην θειαν επιλελησμενη | 17 and who leaves behind the Guide of her youth, |
εθετο γαρ παρα τω θανατω τον οικον αυτης και παρα τω αδη μετα των γηγενων τους αξονας αυτης | 18 and who has forgotten the covenant of her God. For her household inclines toward death, and her paths toward Hell. |
παντες οι πορευομενοι εν αυτη ουκ αναστρεψουσιν ουδε μη καταλαβωσιν τριβους ευθειας ου γαρ καταλαμβανονται υπο ενιαυτων ζωης | 19 All those who enter to her will not return again, nor will they take hold of the paths of life. |
ει γαρ επορευοντο τριβους αγαθας ευροσαν αν τριβους δικαιοσυνης λειους | 20 So may you walk in the good way, and keep to the difficult paths of the just. |
χρηστοι εσονται οικητορες γης ακακοι δε υπολειφθησονται εν αυτη οτι ευθεις κατασκηνωσουσι γην και οσιοι υπολειφθησονται εν αυτη | 21 For those who are upright shall live upon the earth, and the simple shall continue upon it. |
οδοι ασεβων εκ γης ολουνται οι δε παρανομοι εξωσθησονται απ' αυτης | 22 Yet truly, the impious shall perish from the earth, and those who act unjustly shall be taken away from it. |
