Proverbs 11

1 A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight.	1 Yahvé déteste la balance fausse, le poids juste lui est agréable.
2 When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.	2 Aujourd’hui l’arrogance, demain la honte: la sagesse était chez les modestes.
3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.	3 L’intégrité se charge de guider les hommes droits; la perversité mène les impies à la ruine.
4 Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.	4 Au jour de la Colère la richesse ne servira de rien, mais l’honnêteté délivrera de la mort.
5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.	5 À l’homme intègre la droiture ouvre un chemin droit; les méchants se prendront à leur propre malice.
6 The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.	6 Les hommes droits se sauvent grâce à leur justice, mais les impies sont pris à leur propre convoitise.
7 When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.	7 Quand vient la mort, plus d’espoir pour l’impie; la sécurité que lui donnait sa fortune a disparu.
8 The righteous is delivered out of trouble, and the wicked cometh in his stead.	8 Le juste sera délivré du danger, un méchant y tombera à sa place.
9 An hypocrite with his mouth destroyeth his neighbour: but through knowledge shall the just be delivered.	9 L’impie parle de façon à ruiner son prochain; les justes y échapperont par leur clairvoyance.
10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.	10 Quand les justes ont le dessus, la ville est dans la joie; quand les méchants sont ruinés, c’est la fête.
11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted: but it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.	11 La ville prospérera si les gens honnêtes la bénissent; sa ruine viendra des intrigues des méchants.
12 He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.	12 L’homme sans cœur dénigre son prochain, l’homme avisé garde le silence.
13 A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.	13 Le rapporteur révèle les secrets; qui mérite confiance garde le secret.
14 Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellers there is safety.	14 Faute de direction, le peuple est à la dérive; le salut dépend du nombre de conseillers.
15 He that is surety for a stranger shall smart for it: and he that hateth suretiship is sure.	15 Qui se porte garant pour un étranger risque gros; celui qui s’en abstient sera en sécurité.
16 A gracious woman retaineth honour: and strong men retain riches.	16 Une femme aimable se taille une réputation, des hommes énergiques se montent une fortune.
17 The merciful man doeth good to his own soul: but he that is cruel troubleth his own flesh.	17 En étant généreux on se fait du bien, celui qui est dur blesse sa propre chair.
18 The wicked worketh a deceitful work: but to him that soweth righteousness shall be a sure reward.	18 Le salaire du méchant le décevra; celui qui sème le bien, sa récompense est assurée.
19 As righteousness tendeth to life: so he that pursueth evil pursueth it to his own death.	19 La vie droite procure la vie, qui a choisi le mal va à la mort.
20 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.	20 Yahvé déteste l’homme corrompu, ceux qui restent intègres ont sa faveur.
21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.	21 Le méchant ne restera jamais impuni, mais la descendance des justes sera sauvée.
22 As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.	22 Une jolie femme dépourvue de bon sens, c’est un anneau d’or au nez d’un cochon.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.	23 Les justes ne désirent que le bien; les méchants ont aussi leurs espoirs, mais ils vont à l’échec.
24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; and there is that withholdeth more than is meet, but it tendeth to poverty.	24 L’un dépense largement et il s’enrichit, l’autre économise et il s’appauvrit.
25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.	25 Celui qui est généreux sera rassasié, celui qui arrose sera arrosé.
26 He that withholdeth corn, the people shall curse him: but blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.	26 Le peuple maudit celui qui accapare le blé; on bénit celui qui vend son grain.
27 He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour: but he that seeketh mischief, it shall come unto him.	27 Qui cherche à bien faire sera béni; si quelqu’un poursuit le mal, le mal l’atteindra.
28 He that trusteth in his riches shall fall: but the righteous shall flourish as a branch.	28 Celui qui compte sur ses richesses tombera, tandis que les justes verront croître leur ramure.
29 He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.	29 Qui ne sait ordonner sa maison n’héritera que du vent; le sot terminera au service du sage.
30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.	30 Le fruit du juste est un arbre de vie; les méchants seront arrachés avant le temps.
31 Behold, the righteous shall be recompensed in the earth: much more the wicked and the sinner.	31 Oui, le juste reçoit son dû sur cette terre, et combien plus le méchant et le pécheur!
