1 Meg ne vond, fiam, a szegénytől az alamizsnát, és el ne fordítsd szemedet a szűkölködőtől!	1 My son, rob not the poor man of his livelihood; force not the eyes of the needy to turn away.
2 Ne vesd meg az éhezőt, és ne keserítsd a szegényt ínségében;	2 A hungry man grieve not, a needy man anger not;
3 ne szomorítsd a szűkölködő szívét, és ne vond meg az adományt attól, aki sínylődik;	3 Do not exasperate the downtrodden; delay not to give to the needy.
4 ne utasítsd el a nyomorult kérését, és ne fordítsd el arcodat a nélkülözőtől!	4 A beggar in distress do not reject; avert not your face from the poor.
5 Ne fordítsd el szemedet a szegénytől haragodban, és ne adj okot arra, hogy a könyörgők hátad mögött megátkozzanak,	5 From the needy turn not your eyes, give no man reason to curse you;
6 mert meghallgatásra talál annak a könyörgése, aki megátkoz téged lelke keserűségében: meghallgatja őt a Teremtője!	6 For if in the bitterness of his soul he curse you, his Creator will hear his prayer.
7 Kedveltesd meg magad a szegények közösségében, légy alázatos a vének előtt, és hajts fejet az előkelőknek!	7 Endear yourself to the assembly; before a ruler bow your head.
8 Hallgasd meg a szegényt kelletlenség nélkül; add meg, amivel tartozol, és viszonozd nyájasan köszöntését!	8 Give a hearing to the poor man, and return his greeting with courtesy;
9 Mentsd ki az elnyomottat a kevély kezéből, és ne húzódozz attól,	9 Deliver the oppressed from the hand of the oppressor; let not justice be repugnant to you.
10 hogy igazságot szolgáltass! Légy irgalmas az árvákhoz, mintha apjuk volnál, olyan légy anyjukhoz, mint a férj,	10 To the fatherless be as a father, and help their mother as a husband would; Thus will you be like a son to the Most High, and he will be more tender to you than a mother.

12 A bölcsesség életet lehel fiaiba, oltalmába fogadja azokat, akik keresik, s előttük jár az igazság útján.	12 He who loves her loves life; those who seek her out win her favor.
13 Akik szeretik, az életet szeretik, akik virradatkor keresik, kegyelmet találnak nála.	13 He who holds her fast inherits glory; wherever he dwells, the LORD bestows blessings.
14 Akik megragadják, azoknak élet jut osztályrészül; ahová belép, ott áldásban részesít Isten.	14 Those who serve her serve the Holy One; those who love her the LORD loves.
15 Akik szolgálnak neki, a Szentnek szolgálnak, akik szeretik őt, azokat Isten is szereti.	15 He who obeys her judges nations; he who hearkens to her dwells in her inmost chambers.
16 Aki hallgat rá, népek fölött ítélkezik, aki figyel rá, biztonságban lakik.	16 If one trusts her, he will possess her; his descendants too will inherit her.
17 Aki bízik benne, el is nyeri, és utóda bizton birtokolja;	17 She walks with him as a stranger, and at first she puts him to the test; Fear and dread she brings upon him and tries him with her discipline; With her precepts she puts him to the proof, until his heart is fully with her.
18 mert kísértően jár el vele, s előbb próbára teszi őt;	18 Then she comes back to bring him happiness and reveal her secrets to him.
19 félelembe, rettegésbe ejti és megkísérti, fenyítése sanyarúságával sújtja őt, amíg csak ki nem próbálja gondolkodását, és meg nem bízik benne.	19 But if he fails her, she will abandon him and deliver him into the hands of despoilers.
20 Szilárddá teszi, egyenes úton vezérli, s eltölti örömmel,	20 Use your time well; guard yourself from evil, and bring upon yourself no shame.
21 és felfedi előtte titkait; tárházba gyűjti számára a tudást és az erény ismeretét.	21 There is a sense of shame laden with guilt, and a shame that merits honor and respect.
22 De ha tévútra tér, elhagyja őt, és ellenségei kezére adja.	22 Show no favoritism to your own discredit; let no one intimidate you to your own downfall.
23 Figyeld, fiam, az idők járását, és kerüld a rosszat!	23 Refrain not from speaking at the proper time, and hide not away your wisdom;
24 Ne átallj igazat mondani életed kedvéért!	24 For it is through speech that wisdom becomes known, and knowledge through the tongue's rejoinder.
25 Mert van szégyenkezés, amely bűnre vezet, és van szégyenkezés, amely tiszteletet és kegyelmet szerez.	25 Never gainsay the truth, and struggle not against the rushing stream.
26 Ne keresd javadat önmagad kárára, és ne kövess el hazugságot lelked vesztére!	26 Be not ashamed to acknowledge your guilt, but of your ignorance rather be ashamed.
27 Ne restelkedj társad miatt, ha bajba kerül.	27 Do not abase yourself before an impious man, nor refuse to do so before rulers.
28 Ne tartsd vissza a beszédet mentésre alkalmas időben és ne rejtsd el bölcsességedet a maga díszében,	28 Even to the death fight for truth, and the LORD your God will battle for you.
29 mert a beszédről ismerni fel a bölcsességet, s az okosságot, a belátást és a tudományt az okosnak szaváról, de bizonysága az erényes cselekedetekben van.	29 Be not surly in your speech, nor lazy and slack in your deeds.
30 Ne mondj ellent igaz beszédnek sehogy sem, és szégyelld magad oktalan hazugságod miatt!	30 Be not a lion at home, nor sly and suspicious at work.
31 Ne restelld bevallani vétkeidet, és senkinek se hódolj be bűnös cselekedetre! Ne szállj szembe a hatalmassal, és ne erőlködj a folyó árjával szemben! Életed árán is küzdj az igazságért; mindhalálig küzdj az igazságért, akkor Isten harcba száll érted ellenségeiddel! Ne légy fürge a nyelveddel, és mihaszna, hanyag a dolgod végzésében! Ne légy házadban olyan, mint az oroszlán: a házbeliek felforgatója, alattvalóid elnyomója! Ne legyen kezed kinyújtva elfogadásra, sem szűkmarkú, amikor adni kellene!	31 Let not your hand be open to receive and clenched when it is time to give.
