DOUAI-RHEIMSNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
A psalm of David when he was in the desert of Edom.1 A psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
O God, my God, to thee do I watch at break of day. For thee my soul hath thirsted; for thee my flesh, O how many ways!2 O God, you are my God-- for you I long! For you my body yearns; for you my soul thirsts, Like a land parched, lifeless, and without water.
In a desert land, and where there is no way, and no water: so in the sanctuary have I come before thee, to see thy power and thy glory.3 So I look to you in the sanctuary to see your power and glory.
For thy mercy is better than lives: thee my lips shall praise.4 For your love is better than life; my lips offer you worship!
Thus will I bless thee all my life long: and in thy name I will lift up my hands.5 I will bless you as long as I live; I will lift up my hands, calling on your name.
Let my soul be filled as with marrow and fatness: and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips.6 My soul shall savor the rich banquet of praise, with joyous lips my mouth shall honor you!
If I have remembered thee upon my bed, I will meditate on thee in the morning:7 When I think of you upon my bed, through the night watches I will recall
because thou hast been my helper. And I will rejoice under the covert of thy wings:8 That you indeed are my help, and in the shadow of your wings I shout for joy.
my soul hath stuck close to thee: thy right hand hath received me.9 My soul clings fast to you; your right hand upholds me.
But they have sought my soul in vain, they shall go into the lower parts of the earth:10 But those who seek my life will come to ruin; they shall go down to the depths of the earth!
They shall be delivered into the hands of the sword, they shall be the portions of foxes.11 They shall be handed over to the sword and become the prey of jackals!
But the king shall rejoice in God, all they shall be praised that swear by him: because the mouth is stopped of them that speak wicked things.12 But the king shall rejoice in God; all who swear by the Lord shall exult, for the mouths of liars will be shut!
