Psalms 33

DOUAI-RHEIMS	JERUSALEM
1 A psalm for David. Rejoice in the Lord, O ye just: praise becometh the upright.	1 Criez de joie, les justes, pour Yahvé, aux coeurs droits convient la louange.
2 Give praise to the Lord on the harp; sing to him with the psaltery, the instrument of ten strings.	2 Rendez grâce à Yahvé sur la harpe, jouez-lui sur la lyre à dix cordes;
3 Sing to him a new canticle, sing well unto him with a loud noise.	3 chantez-lui un cantique nouveau, de tout votre art accompagnez l'acclamation!
4 For the word of the Lord is right, and all his works are done with faithfulness.	4 Droite est la parole de Yahvé, et toute son oeuvre est vérité;
5 He loveth mercy and judgment; the earth is full of the mercy of the Lord.	5 il chérit la justice et le droit, de l'amour de Yahvé la terre est pleine.
6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were established; and all the power of them by the spirit of his mouth:	6 Par la parole de Yahvé les cieux ont été faits, par le souffle de sa bouche, toute leur armée;
7 Gathering together the waters of the sea, as in a vessel; laying up the depths in storehouses.	7 il rassemble l'eau des mers comme une digue, il met en réserve les abîmes.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord, and let all the inhabitants of the world be in awe of him.	8 Qu'elle tremble devant Yahvé, toute la terre, qu'il soit craint de tous les habitants du monde!
9 For he spoke and they were made: he commanded and they were created.	9 Il parle et cela est, il commande et cela existe.
10 The Lord bringeth to naught the counsels of nations; and he rejecteth the devices of people, and casteth away the counsels of princes.	10 Yahvé déjoue le plan des nations, il empêche les pensées des peuples;
11 But the counsel of the Lord standeth for ever: the thoughts of his heart to all generations.	11 mais le plan de Yahvé subsiste à jamais, les pensées de son coeur, d'âge en âge.
12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord: the people whom he hath chosen for his inheritance.	12 Heureux le peuple dont Yahvé est le Dieu, la nation qu'il s'est choisie en héritage!
13 The Lord hath looked from heaven: he hath beheld all the sons of men.	13 Du haut des cieux Yahvé regarde, il voit tous les fils d'Adam;
14 From his habitation which he hath prepared, he hath looked upon all that dwell on the earth.	14 du lieu de sa demeure il observe tous les habitants de la terre;
15 He who hath made the hearts of every one of them: who understandeth all their works.	15 lui seul forme le coeur, il discerne tous leurs actes.
16 The king is not saved by a great army: nor shall the giant be saved by his own great strength.	16 Le roi n'est pas sauvé par une grande force, le brave préservé par sa grande vigueur.
17 Vain is the horse for safety: neither shall he be saved by the abundance of his strength.	17 Mensonge qu'un cheval pour sauver, avec sa grande force, pas d'issue.
18 Behold the eyes of the Lord are on them that fear him: and on them that hope in his mercy.	18 Voici, l'oeil de Yahvé est sur ceux qui le craignent, sur ceux qui espèrent son amour,
19 To deliver their souls from death; and feed them in famine.	19 pour préserver leur âme de la mort et les faire vivre au temps de la famine.
20 Our soul waiteth for the Lord: for he is our helper and protector.	20 Notre âme attend Yahvé, notre secours et bouclier, c'est lui;
21 For in him our heart shall rejoice: and in his holy name we have trusted.	21 en lui, la joie de notre coeur, en son nom de sainteté notre foi.
22 Let thy mercy, O Lord, be upon us, as we have hoped in thee.	22 Sur nous soit ton amour, Yahvé, comme notre espoir est en toi.
