| 3 Os príncipes dos Filisteus disseram a Aquis: A que fim vêm aqui esses Hebreus? Aquis respondeu aos príncipes dos Filisteus: Não conheceis vós Davide, que foi servo de Saul, rei de Israel, e que está em minha companhia há muitos dias, ou antes anos, e no qual nunca encontrei coisa que me desagradasse, desde o dia em que se refugiou junto de mim até hoje? | 3 The Philistine chiefs asked, 'What are these Hebrews doing?' Achish replied to them, 'Why, this isDavid the servant of Saul, king of Israel, who has been with me for the last year or two. I have had no fault to findwith him from the day he gave himself up to me until the present time.' |
| 4 Os príncipes dos Filisteus iraram-se contra ele e disseram-lhe: Vá-se embora esse homem, para o lugar em que tu o puseste, e não venha conosco à batalha, não suceda voltar-se contra nós, quando começarmos a combater; pois como poderá ele aplacar o seu senhor, senão com as nossas cabeças? | 4 But the Philistine chiefs were angry with him. 'Send the man back,' they said, 'make him go back to theplace which you assigned to him. He cannot go into battle with us, in case he turns on us once battle is joined.Would there be a better way for the man to regain his master's favour than with the heads of these men here? |
| 5 Porventura não é este aquele Davide, em cujo louvor cantavam dançando: Saul matou mil, e Davide dez mil? | 5 Is not this the David of whom they sang as they danced: Saul has kil ed his thousands, and David histens of thousands'? |
| 6 Aquis chamou Davide e disse-lhe: Viva o Senhor; tu és justo e bom diante dos meus olhos; agrada-me o teu proceder comigo no acampamento; não encontrei em ti nada que me desgostasse, desde o dia em que vieste para mim até ao dia de hoje, mas tu não agradas aos príncipes. | 6 So Achish called David and said, 'As Yahweh lives, you are loyal, and I am quite content with al yourdoings in our campaigning together, since I have found no fault with you from the day you came to me until thepresent time. But you are not acceptable to the chiefs. |
| 7 Retira-te, pois, e vai em paz, para não ofender os olhos dos príncipes dos Filisteus. | 7 So go home, in peace, rather than antagonise them.' |
| 8 Davide disse a Aquis: Que fiz eu, que encontraste tu no teu servo, desde o dia em que eu te apareci até este dia, para que eu não vá combater contra os inimigos do rei, meu senhor? | 8 'But what have I done,' David asked Achish, 'what fault have you had to find with your servant from theday I entered your service to the present time, for me not to be al owed to go and fight the enemies of my lordthe king?' |
| 9 Aquis, respondendo, disse a Davide: Eu sei que és bom aos meus olhos, como um anjo de Deus, mas os príncipes dos Filisteus disseram: Ele não há-de ir conosco à batalha. | 9 In reply, Achish said to David, 'In my opinion, it is true, you are as good as an angel of God; but thePhilistine chiefs have said, "He must not go into battle with us." |
| 10 Por isso levanta-te amanhã pela manhã, tu e os servos do teu senhor, que vieram contigo; levantando-vos de noite, parti logo que principie a raiar a aurora. | 10 So get up early tomorrow morning, with your master's servants who came with you, and go to theplace which I assigned to you. Do not harbour resentment, since personal y I have no fault to find with you. Getup early tomorrow morning and, as soon as it is light, be off.' |
| 11 Levantou-se Davide, ainda de noite, e a sua gente, para partirem pela manhã e voltarem para o pais dos Filisteus, e os Filisteus marcharam para Jezrael. | 11 So David and his men got up early to leave at dawn and go back to Philistine territory. And thePhilistines marched on Jezreel. |
