| 1 Filhinhos meus, eu vos escrevo estas coisas, para que não pequeis; mas, se algum pecar, (não desespere, pois) temos um advogado junto do Pai, Jesus Cristo, o justo. | 1 My children, I am writing this to you so that you may not commit sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous one. |
| 2 Ele é a vítima de propiciação pelos nossos pecados, e não somente pelos nossos, mas também pelos de todo o mundo. | 2 He is expiation for our sins, and not for our sins only but for those of the whole world. |
| 3 Sabemos que o conhecemos por isto: se guardamos os seus mandamentos. | 3 The way we may be sure that we know him is to keep his command ments. |
| 4 Quem diz que o conhece e não guarda os seus mandamentos, é um mentiroso e a verdade não está nele. | 4 Whoever says, "I know him," but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. |
| 5 Mas quem guarda a sua palavra, nesse o amor de Deus é verdadeiramente perfeito; por isto conhecemos que estamos nele. | 5 But whoever keeps his word, the love of God is truly perfected in him. This is the way we may know that we are in union with him: |
| 6 Quem pretende estar nele, deve também andar como ele andou. | 6 whoever claims to abide in him ought to live (just) as he lived. |
| 7 Caríssimos, não vos escrevo um mandamento novo, mas um mandamento velho, que recebestes desde o princípio; este mandamento velho é a palavra (do Evangelho) que ouvistes. | 7 Beloved, I am writing no new commandment to you but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. |
| 8 Mas, por outro lado, eu vos escrevo um mandamento novo — o qual é verdadeiro nele (Jesus Cristo) e em vós — pois que passaram as trevas e já resplandece a verdadeira luz. | 8 And yet I do write a new commandment to you, which holds true in him and among you, for the darkness is passing away, and the true light is already shining. |
| 9 Quem pretende estar na luz e odeia o seu irmão, está ainda nas trevas. | 9 Whoever says he is in the light, yet hates his brother, is still in the darkness. |
| 10 Quem ama o seu irmão, permanece na luz, e nele não há ocasião de queda. | 10 Whoever loves his brother remains in the light, and there is nothing in him to cause a fall. |
| 11 Mas quem odeia seu irmão, está nas trevas, anda nas trevas e não sabe para onde vai, porque as trevas cegaram os seus olhos. | 11 Whoever hates his brother is in darkness; he walks in darkness and does not know where he is going because the darkness has blinded his eyes. |
| 12 Eu vos escrevo, filhinhos, porque os vossos pecados vos são perdoados pelo seu nome. | 12 I am writing to you, children, because your sins have been forgiven for his name's sake. |
| 13 Eu vos escrevo, pais, porque conhecestes aquele que é desde o princípio. Eu vos escrevo, adolescentes, porque vencestes o (espírito) maligno. | 13 I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have conquered the evil one. |
| 14 Eu vos escrevo, meninos, porque conhecestes o Pai. Eu vos escrevo, jovens, porque sois fortes, porque a palavra de Deus permanece em vós e porque vencestes o (espírito) maligno. | 14 I write to you, children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong and the word of God remains in you, and you have conquered the evil one. |
| 15 Não ameis o mundo nem as coisas do mundo. Se alguém ama o mundo, não há nele o amor do Pai, | 15 Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. |
| 16 porque tudo o que há no mundo — concupiscência da carne, concupiscência dos olhos e orgulho da riqueza — isto não vem do Pai, mas do mundo. | 16 For all that is in the world, sensual lust, enticement for the eyes, and a pretentious life, is not from the Father but is from the world. |
| 17 Ora o mundo passa, e a sua concupiscência com ele, mas o que faz a vontade de Deus permanece eternamente (no céu) . | 17 Yet the world and its enticement are passing away. But whoever does the will of God remains forever. |
| 18 Filhinhos, é a última hora. Como ouvistes dizer, o Anticristo está para vir, mas digo-vos que já há muitos Anticristos, donde conhecemos que é a última hora. | 18 Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that the antichrist was coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. Thus we know this is the last hour. |
| 19 Eles saíram de entre nós, mas não eram dos nossos (verdadeiros fiéis), porque, se tivessem sido dos nossos, ficariam certamente conosco; mas (saíram de entre nós) para que se conheça que nem todos são dos nossos, | 19 They went out from us, but they were not really of our number; if they had been, they would have remained with us. Their desertion shows that none of them was of our number. |
| 20 Porém vós recebestes a unção do Santo e tendes a ciência. | 20 But you have the anointing that comes from the holy one, and you all have knowledge. |
| 21 Não vos escrevi como a ignorantes da verdade, mas como a quem a conhece e (sabe) que da verdade não vem nenhuma mentira. | 21 I write to you not because you do not know the truth but because you do, and because every lie is alien to the truth. |
| 22 Quem é mentiroso senão aquele que nega que Jesus é o Cristo? Este é um Anticristo, que nega o Pai e o Filho. | 22 Who is the liar? Whoever denies that Jesus is the Christ. Whoever denies the Father and the Son, this is the antichrist. |
| 23 Todo aquele que nega o Filho, também não possui o Pai; aquele que confessa o Filho, possui também o Pai. | 23 No one who denies the Son has the Father, but whoever confesses the Son has the Father as well. |
| 24 O que ouvistes, desde o princípio (da vossa conversão), permanece em vós. Se em vós permanecer o que ouvistes desde o principio, também permanecereis no Filho e no Pai. | 24 Let what you heard from the beginning remain in you. If what you heard from the beginning remains in you, then you will remain in the Son and in the Father. |
| 25 Esta é a promessa que ele mesmo nos fez: a vida eterna. | 25 And this is the promise that he made us: eternal life. |
| 26 Eis o que eu vos tinha a escrever acerca daqueles que vos seduzem. | 26 I write you these things about those who would deceive you. |
| 27 Permaneça em vós a unção que recebestes dele. Não tendes necessidade de que ninguém vos ensine (uma nova fé ); mas porque a sua unção vos ensina todas as coisas, e ela é verídica e não mentirosa, permanecei nele, segundo ela vos ensinou. | 27 As for you, the anointing that you received from him remains in you, so that you do not need anyone to teach you. But his anointing teaches you about everything and is true and not false; just as it taught you, remain in him. |
| 28 E agora, filhinhos, permanecei nele, para que, quando aparecer, tenhamos confiança e não sejamos confundidos por ele na sua vinda. | 28 And now, children, remain in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not be put to shame by him at his coming. |
| 29 Se sabeis que ele é justo, sabei também que todo aquele, que pratica a justiça, nasceu dele. | 29 If you consider that he is righteous, you also know that everyone who acts in righteousness is begotten by him. |
