| 5 (que fui) circuncidado no oitavo dia; (que sou) da geração de Israel, da tribo de Benjamim, (nascido) hebreu de pais hebreus; (que fui), segundo a lei, fariseu; | 5 Circumcised on the eighth day of my life, I was born of the race of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, aHebrew born of Hebrew parents. In the matter of the Law, I was a Pharisee; |
| 6 quanto ao zelo, perseguidor da Igreja; quanto à justiça da lei, irrepreensível no meu proceder. | 6 as for religious fervour, I was a persecutor of the Church; as for the uprightness embodied in the Law, Iwas faultless. |
| 7 Porém, aquelas coisas que (antes) eu considerara como lucro, considerei-as (depois da minha conversão) como perdas por amor de Cristo. | 7 But what were once my assets I now through Christ Jesus count as losses. |
| 8 Sim, na verdade tudo isso tenho por perda, perante o eminente conhecimento de Jesus Cristo, meu Senhor, pelo qual renunciei a todas as coisas e as considero como esterco, para ganhar a Cristo | 8 Yes, I wil go further: because of the supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, I counteverything else as loss. | 10 a fim de o conhecer a ele e a virtude da sua ressurreição e a participação dos seus sofrimentos, assemelhando-me à sua morte, | 10 that I may come to know him and the power of his resurrection, and partake of his sufferings by beingmoulded to the pattern of his death, |
| 11 para ver se de algum modo posso chegar à ressurreição dos mortos. | 11 striving towards the goal of resurrection from the dead. |
| 12 Não que eu tenha já alcançado o prêmio ou seja já perfeito, mas prossigo para ver se de algum modo o poderei apreender, porque eu (que andava fugido e o perseguia) também fui apreendido por Jesus Cristo. | 12 Not that I have secured it already, nor yet reached my goal, but I am stil pursuing it in the attempt totake hold of the prize for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. |
| 13 Irmãos, não julgo ter já alcançado a meta (da perfeição cristã). Mas somente faço uma coisa: esquecendo-me do que fica para trás e avançando para as coisas que estão adiante, | 13 Brothers, I do not reckon myself as having taken hold of it; I can only say that forgetting al that liesbehind me, and straining forward to what lies in front, |
| 14 prossigo para a meta, para o prêmio da celeste vocação de Deus em Jesus Cristo. | 14 I am racing towards the finishing-point to win the prize of God's heavenly call in Christ Jesus. |
| 15 Todos nós, pois, que somos adultos (na vida cristã), tenhamos estes sentimentos; e, se em algum ponto tendes pensamentos diferentes. Deus também vos esclarecerá sobre isso. | 15 So this is the way in which al of us who are mature should be thinking, and if you are still thinkingdifferently in any way, then God has yet to make this matter clear to you. |
| 16 Quanto, porém, aquilo a que temos já chegado, continuemos na mesma regra. | 16 Meanwhile, let us go forward from the point we have each attained. |
| 17 Sede meus imitadores, irmãos, e ponde os olhos naqueles que andam conforme o modelo que tendes em nós. | 17 Brothers, be united in imitating me. Keep your eyes fixed on those who act according to the exampleyou have from me. |
| 18 Porque muitos, de quem muitas vezes vos falei e também agora falo com lágrimas, procedem (com a sua vida sensual) como inimigos da cruz de Cristo : | 18 For there are so many people of whom I have often warned you, and now I warn you again with tearsin my eyes, who behave like the enemies of Christ's cross. |
| 19 o fim deles é a perdição, o deus deles é o ventre, e fazem consistir a sua glória naquilo que é a sua vergonha, gostando somente das coisas terrenas. | 19 They are destined to be lost; their god is the stomach; they glory in what they should think shameful,since their minds are set on earthly things. |
| 20 Nós, porém, somos cidadãos dos céus, donde também esperamos o Salvador, o Senhor Jesus Cristo, | 20 But our homeland is in heaven and it is from there that we are expecting a Saviour, the Lord JesusChrist, |
| 21 o qual transformará o nosso corpo de miséria, fazendo-o semelhante ao seu corpo glorioso, com aquele poder com que pode também sujeitar a si todas as coisas. | 21 who wil transfigure the wretched body of ours into the mould of his glorious body, through the workingof the power which he has, even to bring all things under his mastery. |
