| 1 Então o sumo sacerdote perguntou-lhe: "Estas coisas são assim?" | 1 Then said the high priest, Are these things so? |
| 2 Ele respondeu: Irmãos e pais, ouvi: O Deus da glória apareceu a nosso pai Abraão, quando estava na Mesopotâmia, antes de habitar em Caran, | 2 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran, |
| 3 e disse-lhe: Sai da tua terra e da tua parentela, e vem para a terra que eu te mostrar ([Gn. 12,1]). | 3 And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee. |
| 4 Então saiu ele da terra dos caldeus e habitou em Caran. De lá, depois que morreu seu pai, (Deus) o fez passar a esta terra, na qual agora habitais. | 4 Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell. |
| 5 E não lhe deu herança nela, nem o espaço de um pé, mas prometeu dar-lhe a posse dela a ele e à sua posteridade depois dele, quando ainda não tinha filhos. | 5 And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child. |
| 6 Deus disse-lhe que a sua descendência seria peregrina em terra estranha, a reduziriam à escravidão, e a maltratariam pelo espaço de quatrocentos anos. | 6 And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years. |
| 7 Mas a nação, de quem tiver sido escrava, eu a julgarei, disse o Senhor, depois do que sairão e me adorarão neste lugar. (Gen. 16,13-14). | 7 And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place. |
| 8 E deu-lhe a aliança da circuncisão; e assim gerou Isaac e o circuneidou, passados oito dias. Isaac (gerou e circuneidou) Jacob, e Jacob os doze patriarcas. | 8 And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs. |
| 9 Os patriarcas, invejosos de José, venderam-no para ser levado ao Egipto, mas Deus estava com ele. | 9 And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him, |
| 10 Livrou-o de todas as suas atribulações, deu-lhe graça e sabedoria diante de Faraó, rei do Egipto, o qual o fez governador do Egipto e de toda a sua casa. | 10 And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house. |
| 11 Veio depois a fome por toda a terra do Egipto e de Canaan, e uma grande tribulação, e os nossos pais não achavam que comer. | 11 Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance. |
| 12 Tendo Jacob ouvido dizer que havia trigo no Egipto, enviou (lá) nossos pais uma primeira vez; | 12 But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first. |
| 13 na segunda, José foi reconhecido por seus irmãos, e foi descoberta ao Faraó a sua linhagem. | 13 And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh. |
| 14 José mandou chamar seu pai Jacob e toda a sua família que constava de setenta e cinco pessoas. | 14 Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls. |
| 15 Jacob desceu ao Egipto, onde morreu com nossos pais. | 15 So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers, |
| 16 Foram trasladados para Siquiem e postos no sepulcro que Abraão tinha comprado à custa de dinheiro aos filhos de Hemor, em Siquem, | 16 And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem. |
| 17 Mas, aproximando-se o tempo do cumprimento da promessa que Deus tinha feito com juramento a Abraão, o povo cresceu e multiplicou-se no Egipto, | 17 But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt, |
| 18 até que apareceu outro rei no Egipto, que não tinha conhecimento de José. | 18 Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph. |
| 19 Este, usando de astúcia contra a nossa raça, maltratou os nossos pais até ao ponto de os obrigar a expor seus filhos, para que não vivessem. | 19 The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live. |
| 20 Naquele tempo nasceu Moisés, que era agradável a Deus. Foi criado (ocultamente) durante trés meses em casa de seu pai. | 20 In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months: |
| 21 Depois, quando foi exposto, a filha de Faraó recolheu-o e criou-o como seu filho. | 21 And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son. |
| 22 Moisés foi instruído em toda a ciência dos Egípcios, e era poderoso em palavras e obras. | 22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds. |
| 23 Quando completou a idade de quarenta anos, veio-lhe ao coração o (desejo de) visitar seus irmãos, os filhos de Israel. | 23 And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel. |
| 24 Vendo que um era maltratado, o defendeu, e vingou o que padecia a injúria, matando o egípcio. | 24 And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian: |
| 25 Ora ele julgava que seus irmãos compreenderiam que Deus os havia de libertar por sua mão; mas eles não o compreenderam. | 25 For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not. |
| 26 No dia seguinte, encontrou uns deles em rixa, e, querendo reconciliá-los, disse: Ó homens, vós sois irmãos, por que vos maltratais um ao outro? | 26 And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another? |
| 27 Mas o que fazia injúria ao seu concidadão o repeliu, dizendo: Quem te constituiu chefe e juiz sobre nós? | 27 But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us? |
| 28 Quereis porventura matar-me, como mataste ontem o egipcio? | 28 Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday? |
| 29 A esta palavra Moisés fugiu e foi habitar na terra de Madian, onde gerou dois filhos. | 29 Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons. |
| 30 Passados quarenta anos, apareceu-lhe no deserto do monte Sinai um anjo na chama de uma sarça que ardia. | 30 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush. |
| 31 Vendo isto, Moisés admirou-se de tal aparição, e, aproximando-se para observar, ouviu a voz do Senhor, que lhe disse: | 31 When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him, |
| 32 Eu sou o Deus de teus pais, O Deus de Abraão, de Isaac e Jacob. Moisés, porém, aterrado, não ousava olhar. | 32 Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abrham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold. |
| 33 O Senhor disse-lhe: Tira os sapatos dos teus pés, porque o lugar, onde estás, é uma terra santa. | 33 Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground. |
| 34 Eu vi e considerei a aflição do meu povo, que reside no Egipto, ouvi os seus gemidos e desci a livrá-lo. Vem, pois, agora, e enviar-te-ei ao Egipto. | 34 I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt. |
| 35 A este Moisés, a quem renegaram, dizendo: Quem te constituiu chefe e juiz? a este enviou Deus como chefe e libertador, pela mão do anjo que lhe apareceu na sarça. | 35 This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush. |
| 36 Ele os fez sair, operando prodígios e milagres na terra do Egipto, no mar Vermelho e no deserto, durante quarenta anos. | 36 He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years. |
| 37 Este é aquele Moisés que disse aos filhos de Israel: Deus vos suscitará dentre vossos irmãos um profeta como eu (Dt. 18, 15). | 37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. |
| 38 Este é o que esteve no meio da assembleia do povo no deserto com o Anjo, que lhe falava no monte Sinai, e com os nossos país, e o que recebeu palavras de vida, para no-las transmitir; | 38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us: |
| 39 ele, a quem nossos pais não quiseram obedecer, antes repeliram. Voltaram-se em seus corações para o Egipto, | 39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt, |
| 40 dizendo a Aarão; Faze-nos deuses, que vão adiante de nós, porque esse Moisés,' que nos tirou da terra do Egipto, não sabemos o que foi feito dele (Ex. 32,t-23). | 40 Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. |
| 41 Naqueles dias, fizeram um bezerro (de ouro) e ofereceram sacrifício ao ídolo, e alegravam-se das obras das suas mãos. | 41 And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands. |
| 42 Mas Deus afastou-se deles e abandonou-os ao culto da milicia do céu, como está escrito no livro dos profetas: Por ventura oferecestes-me vós, casa de Israel, algumas vitimas e sacrifícios pelo espaço de quarenta anos no deserto? | 42 Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness? |
| 43 Transportastes a tenda de Moloch e o astro do vosso deus Renfa, figuras que fizestes para as adorar. Pois eu vos transportarei para além de Babilônia (Am . 5,25-27). | 43 Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon. |
| 44 O tabernáculo do testemunho esteve entre os nossos pais no deserto, segundo a ordem daquele que tinha prescrito a Moisés que o construísse segundo o modelo que tinha visto. | 44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen. |
| 45 Nossos pais, tendo-o recebido, levaram-no sob a direcção de Josué, quando foram tomar posse da terra das nações, que Deus lançou de diante de nossos pais, até aos dias de David, | 45 Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David; |
| 46 O qual achou graça diante de Deus, o pediu que lhe fosse permitido construir um tabernáculo para o Deus de Jacob. | 46 Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob. |
| 47 Todavia foi Salomão que lhe edificou uma casa. | 47 But Solomon built him an house. |
| 48 Porém o Altíssimo não habitava em templos feitos pela mão do homem, como diz o profeta; | 48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, |
| 49 O céu é o meu trono, e a terra o escabelo dos meus pés. Que casa me edificareis vós, diz o Senhor? Ou qual é o lugar do meu repouso? | 49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? |
| 50 Não fez porventura a minha mão todas estas coisas (Is. 66, 12). | 50 Hath not my hand made all these things? |
| 51 Homens de cerviz dura, incircuncisos de coração e ouvidos, vós resistis sempre ao Espírito Santo; assim como (foram) vossos pais, assim (sois) vós também. | 51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye. |
| 52 A qual dos profetas não perseguiram vossos pais? Mataram até os que prediziam a vinda do Justo, do qual agora fostes traidores e homicidas, | 52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: |
| 53 vós, que recebestes a lei por ministério dos anjos, e não a guardastes." | 53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it. |
| 54 Ao ouvir tais palavras, enraiveciam-se nos seus corações e rangiam os dentes contra ele. | 54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth. |
| 55 Mas, como ele estava cheio do Espírito Santo, olhando para o céu, viu a glória de Deus e Jesus que estava em pé à direita de Deus. | 55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God, |
| 56 E disse: "Eis que vejo os céus abertos, e o Filho do homem, em pé, à direita de Deus." | 56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God. |
| 57 Então eles, levantando um grande clamor, taparam os ouvidos, e todos juntos arremeteram contra ele com fúria. | 57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord, |
| 58 E, tendo-o lançado fora da cidade, o apedrejavam; as testemunhas depuseram os seus vestidos aos pés de um jovem chamado Saulo. | 58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul. |
| 59 Enquanto apedrejavam Estêvão, ele orava assim: "Senhor Jesus, recebe o meu espirito." | 59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. |
| 60 Depois posto de joelhos, clamou em voz alta: "Senhor, não lhes imputes este pecado." Tendo dito isto, adormeceu no Senhor. | 60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep. |
