| 2 Seguia-o uma grande multidão, porque via os milagres que fazia em favor dos enfermos. | 2 A large crowd followed him, because they saw the signs he was performing on the sick. |
| 3 Jesus subiu a um monte e sentou-se ali com seus discípulos | 3 Jesus went up on the mountain, and there he sat down with his disciples. |
| 4 Ora a Páscoa, a festa dos Judeus, estava próxima. | 4 The Jewish feast of Passover was near. |
| 5 Jesus, então, tendo levantado os olhos e visto que vinha ter com ele uma grande multidão, disse a Filipe: "Onde compraremos nós pão, para dar de comer a esta gente?" | 5 When Jesus raised his eyes and saw that a large crowd was coming to him, he said to Philip, "Where can we buy enough food for them to eat?" |
| 6 Dizia, porém, isto para o experimentar, porque sabia o que havia de fazer. | 6 He said this to test him, because he himself knew what he was going to do. |
| 7 Filipe respondeu-lhe: "Duzentos dinheiros de pão não bastam para que cada um receba um pequeno bocado." | 7 Philip answered him, "Two hundred days' wages worth of food would not be enough for each of them to have a little (bit)." |
| 8 Um de seus discípulos, André, irmão de Simão Pedro, disse-lhe: | 8 One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to him, |
| 9 "Está aqui um jovem, que tem cinco pães de cevada e dois peixes, mas que é isto para tanta gente?" | 9 "There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what good are these for so many?" |
| 10 Jesus, porém, disse: "Mandai sentar essa gente." Havia naquele lugar muita erva. Sentaram-se, pois, os homens, em número de cerca de cinco mil. | 10 Jesus said, "Have the people recline." Now there was a great deal of grass in that place. So the men reclined, about five thousand in number. |
| 11 Tomou, então, Jesus os pães. e, tendo dado graças, distribuiu-os entre os que estavam recostados; e igualmente dos peixes quanto queriam. | 11 Then Jesus took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed them to those who were reclining, and also as much of the fish as they wanted. |
| 12 Estando saciados, disse a seus discípulos: "Recolhei os pedaços que sobejaram, para que nada se perca." | 12 When they had had their fill, he said to his disciples, "Gather the fragments left over, so that nothing will be wasted." |
| 13 Eles os recolheram e encheram doze cestos de pedaços dos cinco pães de cevada, que sobejaram aos que tinham comido. | 13 So they collected them, and filled twelve wicker baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that had been more than they could eat. |
| 14 Vendo então aqueles homens o milagre que Jesus fizera, diziam: "Este é verdadeiramente o profeta que deve vir ao mundo." | 14 When the people saw the sign he had done, they said, "This is truly the Prophet, the one who is to come into the world." |
| 15 Jesus, sabendo que o viriam arrebatar para o fazerem rei, retirou-se, de novo, ele só para o monte. | 15 Since Jesus knew that they were going to come and carry him off to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain alone. |
| 16 Quando chegou a tarde, seus discípulos desceram para junto do mar, | 16 When it was evening, his disciples went down to the sea, |
| 17 e, tendo subido para uma barca, atravessaram o mar em direção a Cafarnaum. Era já escuro, e Jesus ainda não tinha ido ter com eles. | 17 embarked in a boat, and went across the sea to Capernaum. It had already grown dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them. |
| 18 Entretanto o mar começava a empolar-se, por causa do vento forte que soprava. | 18 The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. |
| 19 Tendo remado cerca de vinte e cinco ou trinta estádios, viram Jesus caminhando sobre o mar, em direção à barca, e ficaram atemorizados. | 19 When they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat, and they began to be afraid. |
| 20 Mas ele disse-lhes: "Sou eu, não temais." | 20 But he said to them, "It is I. Do not be afraid." |
| 21 Quiseram então recebê-lo na barca; e logo a barca chegou à terra, para onde iam. | 21 They wanted to take him into the boat, but the boat immediately arrived at the shore to which they were heading. |
| 22 No dia seguinte, a multidão, que tinha ficado da outra banda do mar, advertiu que não havia ali mais que uma barca, e que Jesus não tinha entrado nela com seus discípulos, mas que os seus discípulos tinham partido sós. | 22 The next day, the crowd that remained across the sea saw that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not gone along with his disciples in the boat, but only his disciples had left. |
| 23 Entretanto arribaram de Tiberíades outras barcas, perto do lugar onde haviam comido o pão, depois de o Senhor ter dado graças. | 23 Other boats came from Tiberias near the place where they had eaten the bread when the Lord gave thanks. |
| 24 Tendo, pois, visto a multidão que não estava lá nem Jesus nem os seus discípulos, entrou naquelas barcas e foi a Cafarnaum, em busca de Jesus. | 24 When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into boats and came to Capernaum looking for Jesus. |
| 25 Tendo-o encontrado da banda de além do mar, disseram lhe: "Mestre, quando chegaste aqui?" | 25 And when they found him across the sea they said to him, "Rabbi, when did you get here?" |
| 26 Jesus respondeu-lhes: "Em verdade, em verdade, vos digo: Vós buscais-me, não porque vistes os milagres, mas porque comestes dos pães e ficastes saciados. | 26 Jesus answered them and said, "Amen, amen, I say to you, you are looking for me not because you saw signs but because you ate the loaves and were filled. |
| 27 Trabalhai não pela comida que perece, mas pela que dura até à vida eterna, a qual o Filho do homem vos dará. Porque nele imprimiu Deus Pai o seu selo." | 27 Do not work for food that perishes but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him the Father, God, has set his seal." |
| 28 Eles, então, disseram-lhe: "Que devemos nós fazer para praticar obras de Deus?" | 28 So they said to him, "What can we do to accomplish the works of God?" |
| 29 Jesus respondeu: "A obra de Deus é esta: Que acrediteis naquele que enviou." | 29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in the one he sent." |
| 30 Mas eles disseram-lhe: "Que milagre fazes tu, para que o vejamos e acreditemos em ti? Que fazes tu? | 30 So they said to him, "What sign can you do, that we may see and believe in you? What can you do? |
| 31 Nossos pais comeram o maná no deserto, segundo está escrito: Deu-lhes a, comer o pão do céu. (Ps. 77, 24)." | 31 Our ancestors ate manna in the desert, as it is written: 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'" |
| 32 Jesus respondeu-lhes: "Em verdade, em verdade, vos digo: Moisés não vos deu o pão do céu, mas meu Pai é que vos dá o verdadeiro pão do céu. | 32 So Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave the bread from heaven; my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. |
| 33 Porque o pão de Deus é o que desceu do céu e dá a vida ao mundo." | 33 For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world." |
| 34 Então disseram-lhe: "Senhor, dá-nos sempre desse pão" | 34 So they said to him, "Sir, give us this bread always." |
| 35 Jesus respondeu-lhes: "Eu sou o pão da vida; o que vem a mim, não terá jamais fome, e o que crê em mim, não terá jamais sede. | 35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes in me will never thirst. |
| 36 Porém já vos disse que vós me vistes e que não credes. | 36 But I told you that although you have seen (me), you do not believe. |
| 37 Tudo o que o Pai me dá, virá a mim; e aquele que vem a mim, não o lançarei fora. | 37 Everything that the Father gives me will come to me, and I will not reject anyone who comes to me, |
| 38 Porque desci do céu, não para fazer a minha vontade, mas a vontade daquele que me enviou. | 38 because I came down from heaven not to do my own will but the will of the one who sent me. |
| 39 Ora a vontade daquele que me enviou, é que eu não perca nada do que me deu, mas que o ressuscite no último dia. | 39 And this is the will of the one who sent me, that I should not lose anything of what he gave me, but that I should raise it (on) the last day. |
| 40 A vontade de meu Pai, que me enviou, é que todo o que vê o Filho e crê nele tenha a vida eterna; e eu o ressuscitarei no último dia." | 40 For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him may have eternal life, and I shall raise him (on) the last day." |
| 41 Murmuravam, pois, dele os Judeus, porque dissera: "Eu sou o pão que desceu do céu." | 41 The Jews murmured about him because he said, "I am the bread that came down from heaven," |
| 42 Diziam: "Por ventura não é este aquele Jesus, filho de José, cujo pai e mãe nós conhecemos? Como, pois, diz ele: Descido céu?" | 42 and they said, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph? Do we not know his father and mother? Then how can he say, 'I have come down from heaven'?" |
| 43 Jesus, replicando, disse-lhes: "Não murmureis entre vós. | 43 Jesus answered and said to them, "Stop murmuring among yourselves. |
| 44 Ninguém pode vir a mim, se o Pai que me enviou, o não atrair; e eu o ressuscitarei no último dia. | 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day. |
| 45 Está escrito nos profetas: E serão todos ensinados por Deus (Is. 54, 13). Portanto todo aquele que ouve e aprende do Pai ; vem a mim. | 45 It is written in the prophets: 'They shall all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me. |
| 46 Não porque alguém tenha visto o Pai, excepto aquele que vem de Deus; esse viu o Pai. | 46 Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father. |
| 47 Em verdade, em verdade, vos digo: O que crê em mim, tem a vida eterna. | 47 Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. |
| 48 Eu sou o pão da vida. | 48 I am the bread of life. |
| 49 Vossos pais comeram o maná, no deserto, e morreram. | 49 Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died; |
| 50 Este é o pão que desceu do céu, para que aquele que dele comer não morra, | 50 this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die. |
| 51 Eu sou o pão vivo, descido do céu. Quem comer deste pão, viverá eternamente; e o pão que eu darei, é a minha carne (que será sacrificada) para a salvação do mundo." | 51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world." |
| 52 Disputavam, então, entre si os Judeus: "Como pode este dar-nos a comer a sua carne?" | 52 The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this man give us (his) flesh to eat?" |
| 53 Jesus disse-lhes: "Em verdade, em verdade, vos digo: Se não comerdes a carne do Filho do homem, e não beberdes o seu sangue, não tereis a vida em vós. | 53 Jesus said to them, "Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. |
| 54 O que come a minha carne e bebe o meu sangue, tem a vida eterna, e eu o ressuscitarei no último dia. | 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. |
| 55 Porque a minha carne é verdadeiramente comida, e o meu sangue verdadeiramente bebida. | 55 For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. |
| 56 O que come a minha carne e bebe o meu sangue, permanece em mim e eu nele. | 56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. |
| 57 Assim como me enviou o Pai que vive, e eu vivo pelo Pai, assim o que me comer a mim, esse mesmo também viverá por mim | 57 Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. |
| 58 Este é o pão que desceu do céu. Não é como o pão que comeram os vossos pais, que morreram. O que come deste pão viverá eternamente." | 58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever." |
| 59 Jesus disse estas coisas, ensinando em Cafarnaum, na Sinagoga | 59 These things he said while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum. |
| 60 Muitos de seus discípulos, ouvindo isto, disseram: "Dura é esta linguagem; quem a pode ouvir?" | 60 Then many of his disciples who were listening said, "This saying is hard; who can accept it?" |
| 61 Jesus, conhecendo em si mesmo que seus discípulos murmuravam por isto, disse-lhes: "Isto escandaliza- vos? | 61 Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this, he said to them, "Does this shock you? |
| 62 Que será quando virdes subir o Filho do homem para onde estava antes? | 62 What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before? |
| 63 E o espírito que vivifica; a carne para nada aproveita. As palavras que eu vos disse, são espírito e vida. | 63 It is the spirit that gives life, while the flesh is of no avail. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and life. |
| 64 Mas há alguns de vós que não crêem. Com efeito Jesus sabia desde o princípio quais eram os que não criam, e quem havia de o entregar | 64 But there are some of you who do not believe." Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe and the one who would betray him. |
| 65 Depois acrescentou: "Por isso eu vos disse que ninguém pode vir a mim, se lhe não for concedido por meu Pai." | 65 And he said, "For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me unless it is granted him by my Father." |
| 66 Desde então muitos de seus discípulos tornaram atrás, e já não andavam com ele. | 66 As a result of this, many (of) his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him. |
| 67 Por isso Jesus disse aos doze: "Quereis vós também retirar-vos?" | 67 Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you also want to leave?" |
| 68 Simão Pedro respondeu-lhe: "Senhor, para quem havemos nós de ir? Tu tens palavras de vida eterna. | 68 Simon Peter answered him, "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. |
| 69 E nós acreditamos e conhecemos que tu és o Santo de Deus." | 69 We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God." |
| 70 Jesus replicou: "Não fui eu que vos escolhi, a vós os doze? E contudo um de vós é um demônio." | 70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you twelve? Yet is not one of you a devil?" |
| 71 Falava de Judas, filho de Simão Iscariote, porque era este que o havia de entregar, não obstante ser um dos doze. | 71 He was referring to Judas, son of Simon the Iscariot; it was he who would betray him, one of the Twelve. |
