| 1 Ouvi esta palavra, que é a lamentação que faço sobre vós, ó casa de Israel! Ela caiu e não tornará mais a levantar-se, | 1 Hear ye this word, which I take up concerning you for a lamentation. The house of Israel is fallen, and it shall rise no more. |
| 2 a virgem de Israel! Está deitada sobre a sua ferra, e ninguém a levanta. | 2 The virgin of Israel is cast down upon her land, there is none to raise her up. |
| 3 Porque isto diz o Senhor Deus: A cidade que punha em pé de guerra mil homens, ficará reduzida a cem; e aquela que punha cem, ficará reduzida a dez; (isto sucederá) na casa de Israel. | 3 For thus saith the Lord God: The city, out of which came forth a thousand, there shall be left in it a hundred: and out of which there came a hundred, there shall be left in it ten, in the house of Israel. |
| 4 Porquanto isto diz o Senhor à casa de Israel: Buscai-me e vivereis. | 4 For thus saith the Lord to the house of Israel: Seek ye me, and you shall live. |
| 5 Não busqueis a Betei, nem entreis em Gálgala, nem passeis por Bersabé, porque Gálgala será levada cativa, e Betel ficará reduzida a nada. | 5 But seek not Bethel, and go not into Galgal, neither shall you pass over to Bersabee: for Galgal shall go into captivity, and Bethel shall be unprofitable. |
| 6 Buscai o Senhor e vivereis, não suceda que venha sobre a casa de José, como um fogo, e a abrase, sem haver em Betei quem o apague. | 6 Seek ye the Lord, and live: lest the house of Joseph be burnt with fire, and it shall devour, and there shall be none to quench Bethel. |
| 7 Convertem o direito em absinto, e abandonam a justiça na terra! | 7 You that turn judgment into wormwood, and forsake justice in the land, |
| 8 Aquele que criou as Plêiades e o Orião, que transforma as trevas em luz da aurora e muda o dia em noite, que chama as águas do mar e as derrama sobre a face da terra, o seu nome é: O Senhor. | 8 Seek him that maketh Arcturus, and Orion, and that turneth darkness into morning, and that changeth day into night: that calleth the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The Lord is his name. |
| 9 Ele derriba os fortes e atira a ruína sobre a fortaleza. | 9 He that with a smile bringeth destruction upon the strong, and waste upon the mighty. |
| 10 Eles aborrecem o que repreende à porta (da cidade, nos julgamentos), abominam o que fala com integridade. | 10 They have hated him that rebuketh in the gate: and have abhorred him that speaketh perfectly. |
| 11 Portanto, já que esmagais o pobre e lhe impondes tributos de trigo, não habitareis nas casas de pedra de silharia, que edificastes; das excelentes vinhas que plantastes, não bebereis o vinho. | 11 Therefore because you robbed the poor, and took the choice prey from him: you shall build houses with square stone, and shall not dwell in them: you shall plant most delightful vineyards, and shall not drink the wine of them. |
| 12 Porque eu conheço as vossas muitas maldades e os vossos graves pecados; sois inimigos do justo, aceitais dádivas e oprimis os pobres à porta (da cidade, nos julgamentos). | 12 Because I know your manifold crimes, and your grievous sine: enemies of the just, taking bribes, and oppressing the poor in the gate. |
| 13 Por isso o prudente se cala neste tempo, porque é tempo mau. | 13 Therefore the prudent shall keep silence at that time, for it is an evil time. |
| 14 Buscai o bem, e não o mal, para que vivais e o Senhor Deus dos exércitos estará convosco, como vós dizeis (que está). | 14 Seek ye good, and not evil, that you may live: and the Lord the God of hosts will be with you, as you have said. |
| 15 Aborrecei o mal, amai o bem, fazei reinar a justiça na porta (da cidade, nos julgamentos); então, talvez o Senhor Deus dos exércitos se compadecerá dos restos de José. | 15 Hate evil, and love good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be the Lord the God of hosts may have mercy on the remnant of Joseph. |
| 16 Por cuja causa isto diz Iavé, o Senhor Deus dos exércitos: Por todas as praças soarão gritos: em todas as ruas se ouvirá dizer: Ai, ai! Serão convidados para este luto os lavradores, e para este pranto os que sabem carpir. | 16 Therefore thus saith the Lord the God of hosts the sovereign Lord: In every street there shall be wailing: and in all places that are without, they shall say: Alas, alas! and they shall call the husbandman to mourning, and such as are skilful in lamentation to lament. |
| 17 Em todas as vinhas haverá pranto, porque eu hei-de passar pelo meio de ti, diz o Senhor. | 17 And in all vineyards there shall be wailing: because I will pass through in the midst of thee, saith the Lord. |
| 18 Ai dos que desejam o dia do Senhor! Que será o dia do de vós? O dia do Senhor é um dia de trevas e não de luz. | 18 Woe to them that desire the day of the Lord: to what end is it for you? the day of the Lord is darkness, and not light. |
| 19 Como se um homem fugisse dum leão e lhe saísse ao encontro um urso, ou como se, tendo entrado em casa e segurando-se com a sua mão à parede, o mordesse uma cobra (assim sereis vós perante o inevitável castigo de Deus). | 19 As if a man should flee from the face of a lion, and a bear should meet him: or enter into the house, and lean with his hand upon the wall, and a serpent should bite him. |
| 20 Que será, pois, o dia do Senhor senão trevas, e não claridade, escuridão, e não luz? | 20 Shall not the day of the Lord be darkness, and not light: and obscurity, and no brightness in it? |
| 21 Eu aborreço e rejeito as vossas festas; não sinto gosto nos vossos ajuntamentos. | 21 I hate, and have rejected your festivities: and I will not receive the odour of your assemblies. |
| 22 Se me ofereceis os vossos holocaustos e os vossos presentes, não os aceito; não ponho os olhos nas vítimas gordas, que me ofereceis nos vossos sacrifícios pacíficos. | 22 And if you offer me holocausts, and your gifts, I will not receive them: neither will I regard the vows of your fat beasts. |
| 23 Aparta de mim o ruído dos teus cânticos; não quero ouvir a música das tuas harpas. | 23 Take away from me the tumult of thy songs: and I will not hear the canticles of thy harp. |
| 24 Antes (o que quero é que) corra o direito como água (abundante) e a justiça como torrente que não seca. | 24 But judgment shall be revealed as water, and justice as a mighty torrent. |
| 25 Porventura, ó casa de Israel, oferecestes-me vós sacrifícios e oblações no deserto, onde estivestes quarenta anos? | 25 Did you offer victims and sacrifices to me in the desert for forty years, O house of Israel? |
| 26 Vós sim, levastes o tabernáculo de Sakut, vosso rei, e Kevan, vosso ídolo, a estrela do vosso deus (Saturno), coisas que fizestes por vossas mãos. | 26 But you carried a tabernacle for your Moloch, and the image of your idols, the star of your god, which you made to yourselves. |
| 27 Eu vos deportarei para além de Damasco (para a Assíria), diz o Senhor, cujo nome é Deus dos exércitos. | 27 And I will cause you to go into captivity beyond Damascus, saith the Lord, the God of hosts is his name. |
