| 1 Efraim apascenta-se de vento, vai atrás do vento do oriente. Todos os dias multiplica a mentira e a violência; faz aliança com os Assírios e leva o seu (excelente) azeite ao Egipto. | 1 Ephraim has surrounded me with lies, the house of Israel, with deceit; Judah is still rebellious against God, against the Holy One, who is faithful. |
| 2 O Senhor virá, pois, a juízo com Judá; castigará Jacob pelo seu proceder, dar-lhe-á o pago que merecem as suas obras. | 2 Ephraim chases the wind, ever pursuing the gale. His lies and falsehoods are many: he comes to terms with Assyria, and carries oil to Egypt. |
| 3 Jacob suplantou seu irmão no ventre de sua mãe, e com a sua fortaleza lutou com Deus; | 3 The LORD has a grievance against Israel: he shall punish Jacob for his conduct, for his deeds he shall repay him. |
| 4 lutou com o anjo e ficou vencedor, chorou e suplicou-lhe; encontrou-o em Betel, onde (o Senhor) falou connosco, | 4 In the womb he supplanted his brother, and as a man he contended with God; |
| 5 ele, o Senhor Deus dos exércitos, cujo nome é Iavé. | 5 He contended with the angel and triumphed, entreating him with tears. At Bethel he met God and there he spoke with him: |
| 6 Converte-te pois, ao teu Deus; guarda a misericórdia e a justiça, e espera sempre no teu Deus. | 6 The LORD, the God of hosts, the LORD is his name! |
| 7 Canaan, que tem na mão uma balança enganosa, ama a fraude. | 7 You shall return by the help of your God, if you remain loyal and do right and always hope in your God. |
| 8 Efraim disse; Em verdade tornei-me rico, adquiri fortuna; em todos os meus ganhos, não se encontrará que eu tenha cometido injustiça alguma. | 8 A merchant who holds a false balance, who loves to defraud! |
| 9 Eu, que sou o Senhor teu Deus, desde a terra do Egipto, far-te-ei repousar ainda nas tuas tendas, (apesar da tua obstinação), como nos dias da festa (dos Tabernáculos). | 9 Though Ephraim says, "How rich I have become; I have made a fortune!" All his gain shall not suffice him for the guilt of his sin. |
| 10 Também falei aos profetas e multipliquei as visões; por meio dos mesmos profetas apresentei-vos parábolas. | 10 I am the LORD, your God, since the land of Egypt; I will again have you live in tents, as in that appointed time. |
| 11 Se os galaaditas são ímpios, serão reduzidos a nada, em Galgala, onde imolam touros; além disso os seus altares se transformarão em montões de escombros sobre os sulcos dos campos. | 11 I granted many visions and spoke to the prophets, through whom I set forth examples. |
| 12 Jacob fugiu para a planície de Aram, Israel serviu (a Labão) para adquirir uma esposa, para adquirir uma mulher guardou o gado. | 12 In Gilead is falsehood, they have come to nought, in Gilgal they sacrifice to bullocks; Their altars are like heaps of stones in the furrows of the field. |
| 13 O Senhor fez sair Israel do Egipto por meio dum profeta, e por melo dum profeta o povo foi guardado. | 13 When Jacob fled to the land of Aram, he served for a wife; for a wife Israel tended sheep. |
| 14 (Não obstante) Efraim provocou a ira (divina) mas o sangue que derramou recairá sobre ele, e o seu Senhor lhe dará (a paga) do seu ultraje. | 14 By a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet they were protected. |
| 15 Ephraim has exasperated his lord; therefore he shall cast his blood-guilt upon him and repay him for his outrage. |
