| 1 Israel era uma vinha frondosa, que dava os frutos correspondentes. Quanto mais abundou em frutos, tanto mais multiplicou os seus altares; quanto mais rica era a terra, mais ricas estelas construía. | 1 Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images. |
| 2 É falso o seu coração: vão sofrer o castigo devido. Ele mesmo (o Senhor) quebrará os seus altares e deitará abaixo as suas estelas. | 2 Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images. |
| 3 Dentro em breve eles dirão: Nós não temos rei (que possa salvarmos), porque não tememos o Senhor; e que faria por nós o rei (querendo Deus castigarmos)? | 3 For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us? |
| 4 Proferem palavras vãs, juram falso, concluem alianças, mas o castigo de (Deus) brotará como erva venenosa sobre os sulcos dum campo (semeado). | 4 They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field. |
| 5 Os habitantes da Samaria tremerão por causa do bezerro, (de ouro) de Betaven. O seu povo (que adorava este ídolo) toma luto por ele, e o bando dos seus sacerdotes faz lamentações por causa de a sua riqueza ter sido transferida para longe dele. | 5 The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it. |
| 6 Ele também será levado para a Assíria, como um presente ao grande rei. A confusão apoderar-se-á de Efraim e Israel ficará envergonhado por ter seguido os seus caprichos. | 6 It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel. |
| 7 A Samaria está aniquilada. O seu rei é como espuma sobre a superfície da água. | 7 As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water. |
| 8 Os lugares altos de Betaven, que fazem o pecado de Israel, serão destruídos; sobre os seus altares crescerão espinhos e abrolhos. Então dirão às montanhas : Cobri-nos! — e aos outeiros: Caí sobre nós. | 8 The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us. |
| 9 Desde os dias de Gabaa, tens pecado, ó Israel. Aí tomaram posições (contra mim). Não os apanhará em Gabaa a guerra (declarada) contra os filhos da iniquidade? | 9 O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them. |
| 10 Castigá-los-ei à medida do meu desejo; porque devem ser punidos por causa das suas duas iniquidades, juntar-se-ão contra eles os povos. | 10 It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows. |
| 11 Efraim era como uma novilha bem tratada, que gostava de pisar a eira (na ocasião da debulha); mas eu porei um jugo sobre o seu pescoço; atrelarei Efraim, Judá lavrará, Jacob puxará a grade, | 11 And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods. |
| 12 Semeai para vós na justiça, segai segundo a misericórdia, rompei os vossos pousios, porque é tempo de buscar o Senhor, até que venha ensinar-vos a justiça _(ou santidade). | 12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you. |
| 13 Cultivastes a impiedade, segastes a iniquidade, comestes o fruto da mentira. Confiaste nos teus caminhos e na multidão dos teus valentes. | 13 Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men. |
| 14 Levantar-se-á tumulto entre o teu povo; todas as tuas fortificações serão destruídas, como Salmana destruiu Bet-Arbel, no dia da peleja, em que a mãe foi esmagada sobre os filhos. | 14 Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children. |
| 15 Eis o que vos fez Betel, por causa da enormidade das vossas iniquidades. | 15 So shall Bethel do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off. |
