| 3 Que o Senhor teu Deus nos mostre o caminho que devemos seguir, e o que devemos fazer. O profeta Jeremias disse-lhes: Eu ouvi. Vou fazer oração ao Senhor vosso Deus, conforme dizeis; qualquer palavra que me responder, eu vo-la referirei, sem vos encobrir coisa alguma. | 3 that the LORD your God may show us the way we should go, and the thing that we should do." |

| 8 o qual chamou Joanan, filho de Carée, e todos os oficiais do exército que estavam com ele, e todo o povo, desde o mais pequeno ao maior, | 8 Then he summoned Johanan the son of Kareah and all the commanders of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least to the greatest, |
| 9 E disse-lhes: Assim fala o Senhor Deus de Israel, a quem me enviaste, para que expusesse os vossos rogos na sua presença: | 9 and said to them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him: |
| 10 Se permanecerdes em repouso nesta terra, eu vos edificarei e não vos destruirei: plantar-vos-ei e não vos arrancarei, porque sinto pesar do mal que vos infligi. | 10 If you will remain in this land, then I will build you up and not pull you down; I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I repent of the evil which I did to you. |
| 11 Não temais a presença do rei de Babilônia, de quem tendes medo; não o temais, diz o Senhor, porque eu sou convosco, para vos pôr a salvo, para vos livrar da sua mão. | 11 Do not fear the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid; do not fear him, says the LORD, for I am with you, to save you and to deliver you from his hand. |
| 12 Farei que acheis graça; ele terá compaixão de vós e deixar-vos-á habitar na vossa terra. | 12 I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you and let you remain in your own land. |
| 13 Mas, se disserdes: Não habitaremos nesta terra - desobedecendo assim à voz do Senhor vosso Deus - | 13 But if you say, 'We will not remain in this land,' disobeying the voice of the LORD your God |
| 14 se disserdes: De nenhum modo, mas iremos para a terra do Egito, onde não veremos guerra, nem ouviremos estrondo de trombeta, nem teremos falta de pão, e lá habitaremos - | 14 and saying, 'No, we will go to the land of Egypt, where we shall not see war, or hear the sound of the trumpet, or be hungry for bread, and we will dwell there,' |
| 15 neste caso ouvi agora a palavra do Senhor, ó restos de Judá: Isto diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Se vos obstinais em querer ir para o Egito e se lá entrardes com o fim de aí habitar, | 15 then hear the word of the LORD, O remnant of Judah. Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: If you set your faces to enter Egypt and go to live there, |
| 16 a espada que temeis vos alcançará na terra do Egito, e a fome que receais, no Egito se vos pegará, e lá morrereis. | 16 then the sword which you fear shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine of which you are afraid shall follow hard after you to Egypt; and there you shall die. |
| 17 Todos os que se obstinarem em entrar no Egito, com o fim de aí habitar, morrerão à espada, e de fome e de peste; não ficará nenhum deles, nenhum escapará ao castigo que farei vir sobre eles. | 17 All the men who set their faces to go to Egypt to live there shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence; they shall have no remnant or survivor from the evil which I will bring upon them. |
| 18 Porque isto diz o Senhor dos exércitos, o Deus de Israel: Assim como o meu furor, a minha indignação se acendeu contra os habitantes de Jerusalém, assim se acenderá a minha indignação contra vós, quando tiverdes entrado no Egipto: vireis a ser objecto de execração, de pasmo, de maldição e de opróbrio, e não tornareis mais a ver este lugar. | 18 "For thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: As my anger and my wrath were poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. You shall become an execration, a horror, a curse, and a taunt. You shall see this place no more. |

| 20 Enganastes as vossas almas, porque me enviastes ao Senhor nosso Deus, dizendo: Roga por nós ao Senhor nosso Deus, e tudo o que te disser o Senhor nosso Deus, anuncia-no-lo, e nós o faremos. | 20 that you have gone astray at the cost of your lives. For you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, 'Pray for us to the LORD our God, and whatever the LORD our God says declare to us and we will do it.' |
| 21 Hoje vo-lo anunciei, mas não ouvistes a voz do Senhor vosso Deus, em nenhuma daquelas coisas, pelas quais me enviou a vós. | 21 And I have this day declared it to you, but you have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God in anything that he sent me to tell you. |
| 22 Agora, pois, ficai sabendo que morrereis à espada, e de fome e de peste, nesse lugar para onde quisestes ir a fim de lá viver. | 22 Now therefore know for a certainty that you shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence in the place where you desire to go to live." |
