| 1 No quarto ano de Joaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, foi dirigida a palavra do Senhor a Jeremias, a qual dizia: | 1 In the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, this word came to Jeremiah from the LORD: |
| 2 Toma o rolo dum livro e escreve nele todas as palavras que te tenho dito contra Israel e Judá, e contra todas as nações, desde o dia em que te falei, no templo de Josias, até ao dia de hoje, | 2 "Take a scroll and write on it all the words that I have spoken to you against Israel and Judah and all the nations, from the day I spoke to you, from the days of Josiah until today. |
| 3 a ver se, ouvindo os da casa de Judá todos os males que estou resolvido a fazer-lhes, volta cada um do seu perverso caminho, de sorte que eu lhes possa perdoar as suas maldades e pecados. | 3 It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I intend to do to them, so that every one may turn from his evil way, and that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin." |
| 4 Chamou, pois, Jeremias a Baruch, filho de Néria, e Baruch escreveu, ditando Jeremias, no rolo do livro todas as palavras que o Senhor lhe tinha dito. | 4 Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote upon a scroll at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD which he had spoken to him. |
| 5 Jeremias deu em seguida esta ordem a Baruch: Estou preso, não posso entrar na casa do Senhor. | 5 And Jeremiah ordered Baruch, saying, "I am debarred from going to the house of the LORD; |
| 6 Entra, pois, tu, e lê pelo livro em que escreveste, ditando eu, as palavras do Senhor, de modo que as ouça o povo da casa do Senhor no dia de jejum; além disto, também as lerás a todos os de Judá que vêm das suas cidades. | 6 so you are to go, and on a fast day in the hearing of all the people in the LORD's house you shall read the words of the LORD from the scroll which you have written at my dictation. You shall read them also in the hearing of all the men of Judah who come out of their cities. |
| 7 Pode ser que eles se prostrem, orando diante do Senhor, e se converta cada um do seu mau caminho, porque é grande o furor e a indignação que o Senhor manifestou contra este povo. | 7 It may be that their supplication will come before the LORD, and that every one will turn from his evil way, for great is the anger and wrath that the LORD has pronounced against this people." |
| 8 Baruch, filho de Néria, procedeu conforme tudo o que o profeta Jeremias lhe tinha mandado, lendo no livro as palavras do Senhor na casa do Senhor. | 8 And Baruch the son of Neriah did all that Jeremiah the prophet ordered him about reading from the scroll the words of the LORD in the LORD's house. |
| 9 No quinto ano de Joaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, no nono mês, publicaram um jejum diante do Senhor a todo o povo de Jerusalém e a toda a multidão que havia concorrido das cidades de Judá a Jerusalém. | 9 In the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem proclaimed a fast before the LORD. |
| 10 Então Baruch leu no livro as palavras de Jeremias, na casa do Senhor, na câmara de Gamaxias, filho de Safan, secretário, no vestíbulo superior, à entrada da porta nova da casa do Senhor, ouvindo-o todo o povo. | 10 Then, in the hearing of all the people, Baruch read the words of Jeremiah from the scroll, in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the secretary, which was in the upper court, at the entry of the New Gate of the LORD's house. |
| 11 Quando Miqueias, filho de Gamarias, filho de Safan, ouviu todas as palavras do Senhor, lidas pelo livro, | 11 When Micaiah the son of Gemariah, son of Shaphan, heard all the words of the LORD from the scroll, |
| 12 foi ao palácio do rei, à câmara do secretário, onde estavam sentados todos os grandes (da corte): Elisama, secretário, Dalaias, filho de Semeias, Elnatan, filho de Acobor Gamarias, filho de Safan, Sedecias, filho de Hananias, e todos os (outros) chefes. | 12 he went down to the king's house, into the secretary's chamber; and all the princes were sitting there: Elishama the secretary, Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, Elnathan the son of Achbor, Gemariah the son of Shaphan, Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes. |
| 13 Miqueias referiu-lhes todas as palavras que tinha ouvido, quando Baruch as lia pelo livro aos ouvidos do povo. | 13 And Micaiah told them all the words that he had heard, when Baruch read the scroll in the hearing of the people. |
| 14 Com isto todos aqueles chefes enviaram a Baruch Judi, filho de Natanias, filho de Selemias, filho de Cusi, a dizer-lhe: Toma na tua mão o livro, pelo qual leste diante do povo, e vem cá. Tomou, pois, Baruch, filho de Néria, o livro na sua mão e foi ter com eles. | 14 Then all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, son of Shelemiah, son of Cushi, to say to Baruch, "Take in your hand the scroll that you read in the hearing of the people, and come." So Baruch the son of Neriah took the scroll in his hand and came to them. |
| 15 Disseram-lhe: Senta-te e lê essas coisas, para que as ouçamos. E Baruch leu, ouvindo-o eles. | 15 And they said to him, "Sit down and read it." So Baruch read it to them. |
| 16 Quando ouviram todas as palavras, voltaram-se espantados, cada um para o que tinha ao seu lado, e disseram a Baruch: É preciso que façamos saber ao rei todas estas coisas. | 16 When they heard all the words, they turned one to another in fear; and they said to Baruch, "We must report all these words to the king." |
| 17 Depois interrogaram Baruch: Declara-nos como escreveste todos esses discursos da sua boca. | 17 Then they asked Baruch, "Tell us, how did you write all these words? Was it at his dictation?" |
| 18 Baruch disse-lhes: Pela sua boca me ditava todas estas palavras, e eu as escrevia neste livro com tinta. | 18 Baruch answered them, "He dictated all these words to me, while I wrote them with ink on the scroll." |
| 19 Então disseram os príncipes a Baruch: Vai e esconde-te com Jeremias, e que ninguém saiba onde estais. | 19 Then the princes said to Baruch, "Go and hide, you and Jeremiah, and let no one know where you are." |
| 20 Foram em seguida ter com o rei ao átrio do seu palácio, mas deixaram guardado o livro na câmara de Elisama, secretário, e participaram ao rei, em sua audiência, tudo o que tinha acontecido. | 20 So they went into the court to the king, having put the scroll in the chamber of Elishama the secretary; and they reported all the words to the king. |
| 21 O rei mandou Judi buscar o livro. Judi, tomando-o da câmara de Elisama, secretário, leu-o diante do rei e de todos os grandes que estavam em volta do rei. | 21 Then the king sent Jehudi to get the scroll, and he took it from the chamber of Elishama the secretary; and Jehudi read it to the king and all the princes who stood beside the king. |
| 22 O rei estava sentado no seu aposento de inverno, no nono mês e diante dele estava posto um braseiro aceso. | 22 It was the ninth month, and the king was sitting in the winter house and there was a fire burning in the brazier before him. |
| 23 A medida que Judi lia três ou quatro colunas, o rei cortava-as com o canivete do secretário e lançava-as ao fogo do braseiro, até que se queimou todo o livro no fogo do braseiro. | 23 As Jehudi read three or four columns, the king would cut them off with a penknife and throw them into the fire in the brazier, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire that was in the brazier. |
| 24 E não temeram nem rasgaram as suas vestes tanto o rei como todos os servos, que ouviram todas estas palavras (ou ameaças). | 24 Yet neither the king, nor any of his servants who heard all these words, was afraid, nor did they rend their garments. |
| 25 Todavia Elnatan, Dalaias e Gamarias tinham pedido ao rei que não queimasse o livro; mas ele não lhes deu ouvidos. | 25 Even when Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah urged the king not to burn the scroll, he would not listen to them. |
| 26 Depois o rei mandou a Jeremiei, príncipe, e a Saraias, filho de Azriel, a Selenias, filho de Abdeel, que prendessem Baruch, o secretário, e o profeta Jeremias, mas o Senhor escondeu-os. | 26 And the king commanded Jerahmeel the king's son and Seraiah the son of Azri-el and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel to seize Baruch the secretary and Jeremiah the prophet, but the LORD hid them. |
| 27 Foi dirigida a palavra do Senhor ao profeta Jeremias, depois que o rei queimou o livro com as palavras que Baruch escrevera, recolhendo-as da boca de Jeremias, a qual dizia: | 27 Now, after the king had burned the scroll with the words which Baruch wrote at Jeremiah's dictation, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah: |
| 28 Toma de novo outro livro, e escreve nele todas as palavras que havia no primeiro livro, que Joaquim, rei de Judá, queimou. | 28 "Take another scroll and write on it all the former words that were in the first scroll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned. |
| 29 E dirás a Joaquim, rei de Judá: Assim fala o Senhor: Tu queimaste aquele livro, dizendo: Por que escreveste nele e anunciaste que o rei de Babilônia virá, com certeza, e destruirá esta terra, fazendo que não fiquem nela homens nem animais? | 29 And concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah you shall say, 'Thus says the LORD, You have burned this scroll, saying, "Why have you written in it that the king of Babylon will certainly come and destroy this land, and will cut off from it man and beast?" |
| 30 Portanto isto diz o Senhor contra Joaquim, rei de Judá: Não sairá dele quem se sente sobre o trono de Davide e o seu cadáver será exposto ao ardor do dia e ao frio da noite. | 30 Therefore thus says the LORD concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah, He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David, and his dead body shall be cast out to the heat by day and the frost by night. |
| 31 Castigá-lo-ei a ele, à sua linhagem e aos seus servos pelas suas maldades, e farei cair sobre eles, sobre os habitantes de Jerusalém e sobre os varões de Judá todo o mal com que os tenho ameaçado, sem que eles me tenham ouvido. | 31 And I will punish him and his offspring and his servants for their iniquity; I will bring upon them, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the men of Judah, all the evil that I have pronounced against them, but they would not hear.'" |
| 32 Tomou, pois, Jeremias outro livro e deu-o a Baruch, filho de Néria, o secretário, o qual escreveu nele, ditando Jeremias, todas as palavras do livro que Joaquim, rei de Judá, tinha lançado no fogo. Ainda foram, além disso, acrescentadas muitas mais palavras do mesmo gênero. | 32 Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote on it at the dictation of Jeremiah all the words of the scroll which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire; and many similar words were added to them. |
