| 17 Assim como (corre perigo) aquele que toma um cão pelas orelhas, do mesmo modo o que, passando, se mete com impaciência numa bulha que é com outrém. | 17 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears. |
| 18 Assim como é culpado o que (para se divertir) atira setas e dardos que matam (alguém), | 18 As a mad man who casteth firebrands, arrows, and death, |
| 19 assim o é aquele homem que, usando de fraude, prejudica o seu amigo, e, depois (de ter sião apanhado), diz: Eu fazia isto por brincadeira. | 19 So is the man that deceiveth his neighbour, and saith, Am not I in sport? |
| 20 Quando não houver mais lenha, apagar-se-á o fogo; assim, desterrado que seja o mexeriqueiro, apaziguar-se-ão as contendas. | 20 Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth. |
| 21 Assim como o carvão produz um braseiro, e a lenha o fogo, assim o homem iracundo excita disputas. | 21 As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife. |
| 22 As palavras do mexeriqueiro são como iguarias apetitosas, que penetram até ao íntimo das entranhas. | 22 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. |
| 23 Escórias de prata aplicadas a um vaso de barro, tais são os lábios enganosamente suaves juntos a um coração péssimo. | 23 Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross. |
| 24 Pelos seus lábios, se esconde (dissimulando) o homem que odeia, mas no coração está maquinando enganos. | 24 He that hateth dissembleth with his lips, and layeth up deceit within him; |
| 25 Quando ele te falar num tom amável não te fies nele, porque tem sete abominações no seu coração. | 25 When he speaketh fair, believe him not: for there are seven abominations in his heart. |
| 26 Aquele que oculta o seu ódio debaixo duma aparência fingida, verá a sua malícia descoberta na assembleia pública. | 26 Whose hatred is covered by deceit, his wickedness shall be shewed before the whole congregation. |
| 27 Quem abre a cova cairá nela; e a pedra cairá sobre aquele que a rolou. | 27 Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein: and he that rolleth a stone, it will return upon him. |
| 28 A língua enganadora causa muitos males, e a boca aduladora é causa de ruína. | 28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin. |
